The True MLM Story

Dear Friends,
Thank you for sharing a few minutes with me!
I have some important information to share with you, information that might just
change your life, and the lives of your family and friends, forever!
For the past fifty years – much more so in the last 25-30 years – people around
the world have been fascinated and lured in by the amazing tales of the money
being made by just a very small percentage of the people in the MLM industry. I
know, starting 44 years ago, I was one of them!
Because of the possibility of quick riches without a great deal of effort,
otherwise intelligent people have dropped their normal skepticism and gotten out
their checkbooks/credit cards - frequently having just attended emotionally
charged Recruiting/ Opportunity Meetings . . . meetings not unlike the old
religious revivals or high school pep rallies!
The people who created "Tulipmania" in Holland way back in 1637 - when plain old
tulip bulbs were selling for thousands of dollars a pound! – clearly understood
this basic human weakness.
Charles Ponzi, creator of the infamous "Ponzi Scheme," also understood it back
in 1918.
Bernie Madoff also apparently understood it more recently, to the tune of 50+
billion dollars and counting!
And, unfortunately, too many MLM promoters/companies around the world understand
it now!
But as P.T. Barnum famously said, "You'll never go broke underestimating the
intelligence of the people!" (He actually said "of the American people," but
business and financial ignorance remains a worldwide epidemic!).
While MLM is actually many thousands of years old - as old as business commerce
itself – real old-fashioned commerce was/is 100% based on raw materials/finished
products/services moving through several hands – each one making a reasonable
profit for adding value and/or distribution services to the process - ending up
with the actual retail customer/consumer!
Pretty simple and clean-cut, huh?
But then someone figured out that, if you took out any real concern for those
pesky old retail consumers/customers, you could move the money along a lot
faster by luring utterly naïve players (victims) into the distribution chain.
It's not unlike a rigged game of Musical Chairs, one where the "early players"
know in advance exactly when the music is going to stop, and where they're each
going to plop down!
Ever played "Three Card Monte"?
Ever bought the Brooklyn Bridge ?
How about swamp land in Florida ?
Some other stupid investment?
If so, you understand the Greed Factor that makes many of the MLM programs work!
And we all suffer from greed from time-to-time. Usually to our own detriment.
Trust me, I know!
Before I go on, let me tell you "The Tuna" and "Penny Stock" stories. They might
just finally clear the fog from your poor old MLM eyes:
"The Tuna Story"
As my father told me the story, right after World War II, there was an old,
rusting, 300 foot-long freighter sitting in San Francisco Bay filled with canned
tuna. It had been headed for the troops in the Pacific Theater. But, no longer
needed for the war effort, it was put up for auction and sold for $250,000 –
both the ship and the tuna!
About a year later, the person who bought the ship resold it for $500,000. Then,
after another year or so, the new owner sold it for $1,000,000 . . . and so on
for several years, roughly doubling in price each time.
Finally, a gentlemen who'd paid almost $16,000,000 for the ship and its contents
went down to the dock to inspect his purchase.
He climbed on-board, went down into the hold, picked up a can of the tuna and
opened it. The compartment was instantly filled with the most retched smell
imaginable! The tuna had all spoiled!
In a blind rage, he called the man who had sold him the ship and its cargo.
"The tuna is rotten!" he screamed!
To which the seller yelled back, "You fool! You've ruined everything! That tuna
wasn't for eating, it was for trading!"
My friends, if you understand "The Tuna Story," you're beginning to understand
recruiting-oriented old-fashioned MLM programs! Simply put, it is this . . .
Recruit! Recruit! Recruit!
And Retailing be damned!

And now, just to tighten-up "The Tuna Lesson," let me share the "Penny Stock
Story," another truism taught to me by my father:
"The Penny Stock Story"
Seems that a friend of my father's was being touted a "penny stock" by his
stockbroker. It was literally just a penny a share at the time! So he bought
10,000 shares ($100 worth).
Every few days, the broker would call him, telling him the stock had doubled!
Each time, blinded by greed, he'd shout into the phone, "Get me another thousand
shares!"
One day the broker called and said the stock had hit $500 a share! My Dad's
friend, his Greed Button by now fully engaged, and owning hundreds of thousands
of shares excitedly yelled, "Sell!"
To which the broker calmly replied, "To whom? You're the only one buying."

And now you should have at least a somewhat clearer idea of old-fashioned
MLM/Network Marketing Programs, Ponzi Schemes, Pyramid Marketing Programs, Chain
Letters and Lotteries – many of which are now illegal!
But are all MLM Organizations Bad?
Absolutely not! I started out with just $91.41 for a box of sample cosmetics
back on September 15, 1965.
I worked hard, recruited others, had a personal organization actually retailing
products, became a millionaire and President of the company! I've since traveled
the world, enjoying a life most people only dream about!
I've met kings, queens, princes, princesses, presidents, prime ministers,
Supreme Court Justices, astronauts, a few thousand inmates along the way, and
even a couple of Indian Chiefs!
I've owned and/or had unfettered use of private jets, yachts, limousines, huge
homes, a 3,500 hundred acre ranch, and a life full of experiences I'd never have
had otherwise!
Trust me, even with all of the "ups and downs" (I've had my share of both!), I
wouldn't have missed it for anything! And it all began in MLM!
But through it all, it always bothered me – and does to this day – that so many
others failed along the way; so many lost their investments – both large and
small; so many, who originally believed so strongly in the various products
were, in the end, disappointed.
People I know have told me how they feel whenever they join the latest "ground
floor opportunity or "launch," knowing in their hearts it probably won't last
for them more than 90 days.
And how queasy they feel when they recruit their friends, knowing deep down
inside that they aren't going to make it either. Sad. Very sad.
My Suggestion?
