3 Sections K-3 K-6 K-12

Tournament Rules All players must be United States Chess Federation
(USCF) members. A team consists of the top 5 scorers in each section
and must include at least 2 members. Players cannot compete for both
a school and a club. Club teams must be USCF affiliates and must meet
on a regular basis. In the last two rounds, players from the same
school or club may play each other to determine individual
championship prospects. Please use 2002-2003 school year to determine
school team and section.

Trophies will be awarded to the top 20 individuals in each of the 3
sections. Team trophies for the top 5 school teams and 1st place
trophy for the top club team for each of the 3 sections. Greatest
cumulative upset award in each section. Medals will also be awarded.

USCF 5 SS (Swiss System: Everyone plays 5 games against players with
approximately the same number of wins and losses after each round).
Game/30 for the first 3 rounds Game/45 for the last 2 rounds. Sets
and boards provided. Please bring chess clocks. Clocks may be used
for grades K-3 and must be used for grades 4-12. OPENING CEREMONY
8/16/03 – 9:45 a.m.

Round Times Main Tournament: Saturday
08/16/03 – 10:00 am, 11:30 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:15 pm, 4:00 pm
Awards immediately following approximately 6:00 pm

Blitz Tournament: Friday Night
08/15/03 – 7:00 pm 5 Rds./10 Games/5 Black/5 White
Awards immediately following approximately 10:15 pm

Main Tournament Entry Fee:
$20 per participant in advance - Mail or Fax prior to 08/06/03
$30 per participant late fee or onsite registration 08/16/03 from
8:00 am to 9:00 am. Players registered onsite must take ½ pt bye for
1st round. New players or expired USCF members must pay annual fee
for USCF membership: $17 for 14 & under, $25 for 15 to 19.

Special Event - Blitz Tournament Entry Fee:
$10 - Mail or Fax prior to 08/06/03
$15 Late Registration on 08/15/03 No entries after 6:30 pm 08/15/03
Blitz Rounds Commence at 7:00 pm.


Location Hawthorne Elementary School, 2125 Story Street, San Luis
Obispo, CA.
