The final decision about tourney dates time and place were never posted.
Did it get cancelled?
Excellent,
I've been looking for just this sort of thing.
I had downloaded the Kogo Joseki Dictionary before but it fails to
work properly in KGS's CGoban3.
Anyone know of a downloadable sfw player that will work with the Kogo KJD?
This Eidogo online page is great for now.
Thanks Eric

Not officially, but if you send email to group asking folks if they'd like to meet at rao's at such-and-such a time for a game, it ought to be possible to get a game. And for online, I assume you're already found gokgs.com ?

Geordie and my other son Kiva
(17 years old and 2k, visiting for the week) are planning on coming
down to Go - be prepared you guys!
Unfortunately I won't be. I haven't been there for several weeks now
and probably won't again. Over Christmas I had a lump removed which
turned out to be a metastatic melanoma - and a very aggressive type. I
was able to come to a Go Thursday briefly just after the new year but
now can hardly move around much less leave the house.
I wish you guys fun!

Are there any hearty souls who would like to carpool to this? My
strong performance at this tournament last year helped me earn a spot
on the U.S. WMSG team. I'd like to head down for a repeat
performance.

Subject: 50th New Jersey Open Go tournament, 2/28-3/1
To: gotrevor@...
Dear regional Go players:
You are receiving this because at some point you registered your
email with the American Go Association (AGA). It is the only
announcement for the upcoming New Jersey Open. If you know someone
in your club who might like to attend but does not have email,
please print this out for them.
*To be removed from this list*: reply to rickmott@...
with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject. Please do this:
(1) for duplicates you receive which are not your preferred address
or (2) if you are very unlikely to attend a Princeton event now or
in the future.
The tournament will be in the same site as last year (Frist Campus
Center). We are starting half an hour earlier than some prior
years. REGISTRATION ENDS AT 10AM. You must be there by 10AM to
be paired in the first round.
Pregistration is not required, but if you are reasonably sure you
will attend please reply with your name and AGA ID (if you have
one). It will help us plan refreshments and speed up our data
entry on Saturday morning.
Cell phones don't work at the site, but if you're lost or late,
call 609-851-6351 during the last half hour of registration.
Trains from NY/Phila arrive at 9:32. You can reach Frist walking
or by cab in 10 minutes.
PLEASE encourage beginning players to come!
Thanks, and I hope to see you at the tournament! This is the 50th
anniversary of the New Jersey Open, and the 20th year the event
has been held on the Princeton campus. We hope for a big turnout
and maybe some press coverage. Please join us.
Rick Mott, Princeton Go Club
Here are the details:

You may join the tournament for any round, but in order to be paired
Saturday you must be here by 12:30PM for round 2 or 3PM for round 3.
Please arrive by 9:30 if you are registering Sunday morning. Official
start times for later rounds will be posted at the registration desk
and will depend on when the last games of the prior round are done.
In order to accomodate younger players, who often finish games quickly
and want to leave early Saturday, the pairings for Round 3 will be
posted as soon as possible after round 2. Fast players can expect
to be finished on Saturday by approximately 5PM.
Call Rick Mott, (609)466-1602, or email rickmott@...
for any questions not answered below.
**EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER** Frist help desk, 609-258-1766
(cell phones don't work at the playing site on B level). Please
reserve this number for emergencies: if you are on your way but
late, call the tournament cell number: 609-851-6351. That number
will checked during the last half-hour of registration both days.
The Tournament:
2009 is the 50th anniversary of the New Jersey Open, a great event
for strong players and beginners alike. Last year 80 players
entered, from 30 kyu to some of the strongest amateurs in the US.
The Matthews "Accelerated" pairing system ensures dan level games
will be even and lower kyu level games will be handicapped as needed.
Prizes will be awarded by the number of games won.
The Campus Center has a food court one floor above the playing
room. University regulations prohibit smoking in the building.
Instant Ratings:
Up-to-date AGA ratings will be available when you register at the
tournament. After each round, a "tournament rating" will be computed
which reflects your results and all your opponents' results. At the
conclusion of the tournament, all players will receive a new provisional
AGA rating. Find out how strong you really are!
The Championship
The overall winner of the tournament will be the 2009 New Jersey State
Champion. Everyone is eligible; residing in NJ is not required.
Prizes:
To qualify for all prizes except the Beginner's Prize, you must
play in all five rounds. Prizes will be awarded for 4 or 5 wins
of five games played. The NJ State Championship will be awarded
separately in addition to 4 and 5 game winners.
The Bob Ryder Memorial Beginner's Prize
To encourage beginning players to participate, all entrants 15 kyu and
below who complete at least 3 games will be entered in a drawing for a
special beginner's prize. Winners from previous years are not eligible.
Day Tripping, or Skipping a Round
You may play only Saturday or Sunday for a reduced tournament fee ($22
or $15 respectively). If any particular round is inconvenient for you,
just tell the Tournament Director in advance. You can skip a round and
rejoin the tournament later. New registrants may enter for any round.
Register by 12:30PM for round 2 Saturday or Sunday, 3PM for round 3
Saturday. The actual round start times will be determined by the
pace of play and will be posted at the registration desk.
AGA Membership
American Go Association membership is required. The Princeton Go club
provides free youth AGA membership ($10 value) to Princeton students
joining for the first time.
Note: according to the AGA National Assembly, the Limited membership
has been dropped. Full membership is now required for all players
over the age of 22. A reduced rate is available only in cases of
economic hardship. You also have the option of paying an AGA playing
fee of $10 for just this tournament. Attending any other tournament
will require either membership or another playing fee.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS:
PARKING DIRECTIONS: It is no longer possible to turn from
Washington Road onto Ivy Lane. Coming from Route 1, you must turn
right on Faculty Road (light at the bottom of the hill). Turn left
on Fitzrandolph, then left on Western Way; go past the football
stadium. The lot is on the right opposite the first building on
the left after the stadium (astrophysics, with observatory dome).
If you are coming from the Nassau Street end of Washington Road,
turn left onto Prospect Street (light at the top of the hill). Turn
right on Fitzrandolph, then right on Western Way; go past the
football stadium. The lot is on the right opposite the first building
on the left after the stadium (astrophysics, with observatory dome).
There is a printable on-line map available at the www.princeton.edu
web page. Select "Visiting Campus" from the left-hand column, then
"interactive map". Scroll down the list of buildings and click
"Frist Campus Center." You will also see an option for a printable
PDF map, clearer than just printing the graphics from your browser.
Trains from NYC and Phila. arrive in Princeton at 9:42. On Sunday,
you must make the train which arrives at 8:42 or call the tournament
cell number above to say you're definitely coming on the later train.
Playing Location: The Frist Campus center is located at the corner
of Washington Road and Ivy Lane. You can park in the first gravel
lot down Ivy Lane, or the paved lots near the football stadium. Walk
back to the light, look across the street and uphill, and you will
see a large glass wall. Enter by the nearest door (right side of
the glass wall). Cross the cafeteria and follow signs downstairs
one level. Email me for handicapped access info.
Accommodations: Princeton now has many hotels in all quality
and price ranges within a few miles. A search on Travelocity,
Orbitz or Hotwire will find you a room in the range of $70-100
easily.
Only one hotel is within walking distance: the Nassau Inn,
(609)-921-7500), expensive (best rates $170-$200), ask for the
"weekend package". All other hotels require a car or taxi.
Food & beverages:
Light refreshments at the site. Food court up one level, cafe
and convenience store up 2 levels. Many restaurants on Nassau
Street, 5-10 minute walk from campus center.
