This group is for people interested in participating in the Second Annual Bay Area Crossword Tournament, a one-day crossword tournament in Alameda, California, to benefit the California Dictionary Project (http://www.californiadictionaryproject.org). The date is set for Saturday, September 12, 2009, so mark your calendars! As in 2008, the tournament will be held in the Alameda High School cafeteria. The incomparable Will Shortz, crossword puzzle editor of the New York Times, has graciously agreed to provide unpublished puzzles for the tournament, and Tyler Hinman will be specially constructing a Sunday-sized original puzzle for the grand finale. The entry fee is just $20 before July 1, $25 after, and $30 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit the California Dictionary Project. Prizes are double this year ($100 Amazon.com gift certificate to the big winner, $50 to the second-place winner, and $25 to the third-place winner).
