Anyone who is interested in taking over this webcam group as moderator please
let me know.
Without further activity from members it will be discontinued within 2 weeks.
We continue to broadcast all the time but lack of activity on this group and the
advent of Skype as a replacement for groups is making this redundant.
If anyone is interested in connecting via Skype our address is
imagine.image.multimedia
If no one takes over this as moderator it will be shut down within two weeks.
Hello everyone and sorry yet again for these spotty notices.
Camarades.com
Regarding Camarades.com, we have discontinued using it for the reason that more
adult material has crept into the matrix view when we are NOT broadcasting and
their code on our page maintains a link to their site. Going forward we'll use
the dedicated server which is a multicamera view anyway, which is better.
Scheduling Broadcast Games
Whenever we broadcast a game and by the way, sometimes we broadcast recent
actions in model making not just games, most of the time the broadcasts aren't
planned so it's really tough to let you all know.
So, how would you like to be notified of when we do or anyone does for that
matter, broadcast a game or game-related event?
Get Interviewed!!
Also note that we are conducting conversations all the time with skype, at the
address imagine.image.multimedia so if you're interested, drop in US central
time from 8 to 11pm.
We want to interview you as well about your hobby and the stuff you're doing,
and we want to broadcast the recording from our site so please let me know if
you've got something to talk about and we'll make it happen.
Technology News
Regarding technology, not too much is going on other than the new Windows OS 7
and the popularity of Netbooks, which are quickly becoming the mobile video
phone because using them as actual computers has proved to be less than expected
because the keyboards are still too small to really use for normal office work,
however, as a vehicle to broadcast video it might be worth looking into, for
instance, using netbooks with a webcam at a convention.
There are many possibilities.
Rules and Miniatures: Announcing Time Driver BETA release at the end of August
2009
Regarding rules and miniatures, we're not doing anything too much different than
we have for the last year, except the big news is we're getting ready to release
the car combat rules called Time Driver.
These rules will only be available with the one-time subscription fee to The
Wargames Archive from our site, so existing members will get access to them
automatically.
So if you're into or have been thinking about getting into games with toys like
die cast matchbox, hot wheels and such, that's what we've been working on and
for car racing combat it's looking really good.
The story of the "Time Driver" is quite compelling too.
Let's here from everyone as we ramp up for games in the fall and winter of 09.
At Imagine Image Multimedia, our standard bill of faire remains as before:
ACW 15mm
WWII 1/72
Ancients 1/72
ACW 28mm -NEW!!
Hex Command Oceans (Renaissance age of sail)
Games like Time Driver, Raptors Air Combat and Hex Command NOVA and Hex Command
Colonials are too detailed, one might say skirmish level, for broadcast games,
so only the more tactical military games are suited for broadcast gaming.
Until next time!

hello everyone... important update.
GO WITH SKYPE.
Skype enables free skype to skype calls and multiple users at the same time so
we can have more than one gamer with AUDIO.
We hesitated all these years of checking out skype but this weekend we have
officially converted over.
We DO NOT use skype for the video however, video is still via our IP multicamera
device showing 4 screens at once.
Sorry we cannot notify everyone when we are going to run games, but generally
it's every weekend so keep checking the main site at www.imagineimage.org for
the red button showing Broadcasting. We'll try to be more frequent withnotices
now that we are in skype. All, GET SKYPE unless you have a better alternative,
let us know.

Just joined CommanderCam. I have a couple of IP cameras and table that I want to run games on. I may need some assistance getting the cameras to show to the outside world (I need to set them up and set the router).
Greetings! I am new to this group. A couple of weeks ago, I finally got around to trying out the idea of using a webcamera during a miniatures game. I created a discussion on social.consimworld.com/commandercam and since then we've documented what we have been trying to do and how it has gone through a couple of games.
I was unaware of webcamwargaming until a couple of days ago when someone on the consimworld discussion pointed it out. Very cool!
I think the main difference between what is described in webcamgaming and what we've tried to do with CommanderCam is that the latter attempts to provide only what a commander on the field see. Therefore, the camera is placed at "eye" level with the miniature that represents the commander of the player whose turn it is. Instead of a "God's eye" or "helicopter" view of the battlefield, the player only sees what his commander sees. The player whose turn it is not does not get to see the video feed, and instead is using that time to develop plans and write orders for his next turn.

I'm not advocating one technique vs. another, just letting you all

Keep gaming!

I have finally moved into a new house (well, new to us!) and will get my two cameras set up this winter. I should be able to set them up with static IP (internal at least) so that each side will have a view.
Subject: [webcamwargaming] Hello to the group from your moderator
Hello everyone;
just a note to say hang in there- the economy will get better.. slowly. In the meantime, we're all saving money by broadcasting miniature games. We've been doing more lately and I HAVE to say is THIS COOL or WHAT!
We are doing 4x4 foot game tables and the game I ran was paratroops 1945, somewhere in Germany. I wish I could post a schedule but it's just too hard. Suffice to say, mostly each Friday night we try to do something or early Sunday mornings from 9 am central to noon.
Best thing about this technology: you can eat, smoke, drink- whatever- in the comfort of your own home while you play the game. It's just awesome and the rules we use, Hex Command, are free.
My players are mostly in Texas, but anyone is encouraged to play as well.
So drop me a line at this group or imagineimageSPAM@comcastspam.net (remove the spam words). The rules we use are simple and the games are fast. I set the game and move the troops and dont mind at all, but if you want to run a game with your miniatures just say so.
Also, if anyone has any tools that allow for more than one webcam viewer let us know, that is, where you -the broadcaster- are broadcasting your game and those who are watching are broadcasting their cameras as well, though that isn't really needed but it does let you see who they are.
Don't forget the site that supports this group too, because there are resources there and some news as we are selling most of our 1/72 collections, for instance, we have gotten rid of all our Napoleonic armies in the last months and have 100 years, aztec, British Empire and Ancients also going up for sale including AngloSaxon/Norman armies.
www.imagineimage.org for pictures.
At this time only one person at a time is enabled in MS Instant Messenger and AUDIO is a requirement; it makes it MUCH faster than reading text so we must do AUDIO calls.
Well, we did it. Ran a small Dirtside 2 game as proof
of concept/test. Here are a couple of lessons learned:
1.The host/referee needs to be prepared, we did this as a
throw together. In the future I would send OB, maps, etc before hand.
2.Web cam interface on a Messenger client is adequate,
could be better. 15mm figures and vehicles can be identified from @ 24
inches, longer and they start to disappear into the terrain.
3.Camouflage works! Olive Drab troops almost
disappear.
4.Need to investigate ways to swap camera between players.
Running 2+ MSN sessions could cumbersome.
For our next outing I think ACW or Napoleonics would work better.
Low level tactical games have too many points of view for the players and
referee. With earlier periods I want to limit to the Army commander or designated
leader figures. I would also limit the ability to switch view to designated
leaders in LOS or command range of the primary leader. Flanking forces
should be controlled by a separate player.
I also want to see what effect lighting may have, I’ll
need to move my table.
Thanks again to Don (Redleg) and Will (aka Seth) for jumping
in on such short notice.

Thanks for the welcome message. I want to post to the list
rather than individual replies (for now).
I want to get some ideas about the configuration and costs
involved. I have some experience in networking so the hardware is not too
much of an issue. I understand that the there is a Web interface for 1 or
more Cameras and that you need to open this port on your router.
For the Game side I see the “Host” as being the game master,
setting the scenario, table and initial deployments. As I tend to do
historical miniatures I think that this interface has some promise.
