Mr. K.
Old Soldiers magazine is looking for writers and advertisers. There is no charge
for the adverts and no pay for writing. But its a good way to get published, I
guess.

White Dog Games is looking for playtesters. Might want to look into that?

I'm doing a little writing and a little playtesting for them.

Nice!
You haven't said how many players the game is for though, or what you
recommend the size of a deck should be according to how many are playing.
Also - It may be a good idea to recommend coloured counters of some kind for
players to put on their cards to keep track of who played which cards.

Just looking at the cards.
Those are hilarious!!!
Will link to it from the main
warpspawn site Fantasy page.
If Warpspawn2 is full, there is a 3 and a 4.
I never really liked these Yahoo groups.
I would rather have a regular message board with lots of
sub-divisions. But all the files are here, and
links, etc. etc. etc.
I would also recommend getting the game into the
Board Game Geek Database.

The file is in "rar" format. Don't know what that is, but can't ever open it on
any of my computers. Can you post it in pdf or Word or Wordperfect?

Rar is an archive format similar to zip.
You can download a free extraction program here-

theorically it is a game for 2-9 players, but I think it is best suited for 3-4.

regarding the counters, you are right, and in fact I also id a set of printable
coloured counters for each creature card.
only, disk space is scarce and I am not so sure it would fit

1) how to do that?
2) what level of copyright strictness do they have? this is just an hobby-thing
I did for fun, and I used several images that are probably copyrighted

Very good looking game. Hope I can find the time to tinker with it and see how
it plays. Good cards, and the boards are great!

And yes the cards are funny! "Beat da monks!"

Unless someone has made up a set, you have to make them yourself. Either use
index cards or have a set printed on "buisness card" setup.

There are some templates here on the site you may want to try also. Look in
"files."

People are making new counters and cards all the time for the cards here. Some
are posted here, some they keep on their own websites.

I gave this thread a good long time to be answered, just in case someone had
designed a set.

At one point, I tried to create out of Excel, and then Excel to Access, after I
found the jump necessary to work out the delimiters, an app to copy-and-paste
the card lists into to create simple card formats.

I never got the bugs out sufficiently to not have some manual adjustments.
However, I got it to print a page of images every other page to make the backs
by printing duplex on cardstock.

I finally gave up on the app as almost as much work as real cut-and-paste, and
scaled down the number of games to try out. Be da**ed if I can find the files.

Anybody else try this route?

An intriguing idea, but I think we have to work on it in order to make it
machiavellic enough (that's the era of machiavelli, Lucretia Borgia's poison,
Reform and Counter-Reform Inquisition, re-discovering of Kabbalah, Alchemy, and
weird speculation on Astrology and Numerology, which, somehow unlikely, drew the
fundaments of modern science).

There's the kingdom of France, and the kingdom of Spain, and the Holy Roman
(german) empire, and the Ottoman empire occasionally makig raids in italy and
the italian city-states sometimes asking their intervention against other
city-states in their petty squabbles (risky business, but politics is for
gambling people).

There's the banking system emerging, and an icredible concentration of wealth in
the hand of otherwise insignificant city-states, lending funds to the kingdoms
of half Europe and sometimes halting a war (or instigating one) just by
conceding a mortgage.

There's a LOT of revolts and Duchyes becoming Republics and then Principates and
then Republics again, and legitimate heirs to throne all over waiting thir
occasion and some fungs and a mercenary army, thank you very much, to topple
your worst enemy government.

There's religion squabbles all over the place with influences of the Protestant
reform and heretical movements which often become peasant's revolts, and of
hourse pyres of heretics by the inquisition

And of course there's murder, poisoning, banquets, slaughtering of the hosts you
invited at your own banquet, fomenting revolts in other countries, forging
papers in order to claim right on some strip of land, diplomatic marriages,
alliances, treason against people you've just signed an alliance with,
recruiting of mercenaries, your own mercenaries runsacking your city because you
did not paied them enough-or even trying to topple your government, intrigues,
and poisoning again.

Hi mailinutile,

I just tinkered with it a little, take another look.
More cards, Religion as a scoring category.
Action cards. Card mods. etc. Reading about Cosimo the Elder
gave me my inspiration to do the game. The original intent
was to limit it to the 15th century. However I expanded
that to about 1550 with some of the cards. I thought of adding
money, a map, and military units, but that would be a
whole other game. Let me know if you have some specific
rules adds/changes in mind.

Couple of questions before I start trying to make cards for the game.
Suggest that for ease of play that the Work Tiles be card-sized rather
than square-tile-sized, and have additional "Room Tiles" that aren't
otherwise used unless and until the Build Phase; you discard the "Room
Card" and place the "Room Tile" on the board.

Couple of questions before I start trying to make cards for the game.
1) The rules for "Dig Phase" and "Fight Phase" first say that you can
only dig/fight a Tile adjacent to the Hold or a space you already
control. But then later in each paragraph it says it costs an extra 2
Gold to dig/fight a Tile that's not adjacent.

2) The effects of Room tiles are continuous? They operate each turn?

3) Each player does each Phase before everybody goes to the next Phase
in a Turn?

4) Scoring Rules refer to "The player with the most Trophies. . ."
What are Trophies?

Hi Ron!

Q> Suggest that for ease of play that the Work Tiles be card-sized rather than

A> Sounds perfectly OK to me.

A> You pay the gold if the target tile is adjacent to a space
controlled by another player but not you.

Q> 2) The effects of Room tiles are continuous? They operate each turn?

A> Most do. A few are 1 time effects. I'll go back and be more
explicit.

Q> 3) Each player does each Phase before everybody goes to the next Phase in a
Turn?

A> Yes. In order as determined by the Dwarf Lord Leader.

Q> 4) Scoring Rules refer to "The player with the most Trophies. . ."
What are Trophies?

A> When you clear a Lair, you remove the Lair Tile from the
board and keep it as a Trophy.

Man, this place is great! New stuff all the time! And most of it is increadably
neat. Keep going, Professor!

I'm tinkering with custom cards for "Phantom Leader". Making cards for the
aircraft in the game with stats and names for the pilots the "way I want them",
but with in reason for the game. I'm a big fan of the F-104 though it turned out
to be a dog in the Nam. Not enough loiter time and weak bomb load. But it scared
the crap out of the Mig-15 pilots at the time. And it had a cannon when the F-4
did not.

I don't own the game yet, and plan to take care of that as soon as I find an
affordable copy. Its going for an outrageous $60 US. Some markes show it for as
low as 40 bucks. I do, however, have the rules downloaded, and really really
like what I see. I recommend it.

So,if anyone would like a customized name and stats for a card, let me know. You
gotta email me a pic of your card, both sides. I can then mod it to your specs,
if you like, and email it back. Then you print it, mount it, and go hunting. If
I get too many I may drop this idea, but we'll see. Remember, having a "super
ace" that does all, kills all will ruin a game quick. First come first served. 1
custom plane to customer for the time being to avoid overload, please.

Thank you for the offer. Very generous.
On the topic of Creativity, I feel a dry spell
coming on. I'd like the peanut gallery to shoot off
some ideas for games, projects. Try to get me inspired.

Mr. K/Professor,

Looking for ideas, eh? I thought you'd never ask!

How about German blockade runners in World War II?

Attached are two files, excerpts from two books with info on the topic.
Germany and Italy needed rubber and tin from the Far East for their war
effort. Britain (and later the U.S.) imposed an economic blockade against
them keep them from getting the stuff. Early in the war, Germany got it
through Russia, but once Germany attacked Russia, the only way to get the
stuff was by sea. As time went on, German scientists got better at making
synthetic rubber with less and less natural rubber. Meanwhile, the British
and Americans were getting better and better at intercepting German ships.
It was a race between science and seapower! The Germans used lots of
tricks, such as using German and Italian airliners flying from South America
to scout for British ships. Eventually they had to use submarines instead
of cargo ships to run the blockade. Up to the very end of the war the cat
and mouse game went on.

One file is a 3-page excerpt from "A World at Arms," by Gerhard Weinberg.
It gives the "big picture" of blockade running. The second is a 2-page
excerpt from a book called "The Framework for Hemisphere Defense," part of
the U.S. Army's official history of WWII. It covers the use of German and
Italian airliners flying out of South America to scout for the blockade
runners and how they were shut down. It also has a link to the book online.

So, does that grab your curiosity? Stir up your inspiration? I hope so! A
game awaits!

Regards, Greg

Well, the files got stripped off, but you get the general idea. You can
look at the "The Framework of Hemisphere Defense" at:
http://www.history.army.mil/books/wwii/Framework/index.htm

Follow the link to Chapter X, pages 247 and 248.

If you're interested in the idea, send me an E-mail address, and I will send
the two files to you directly.

Regards, Greg
