No I think, shallow hexes were introduced in 7th Fleet. I think sub detection is basically the same, just the detection table was modified to make it a bit

Sea Mounts in 2nd Fleet
I'm unfamiliar with any editions of the game prior to 7th Fleet. Could someone explain how submarine detection varies in 2nd Fleet, especially how sea mounts
