I just noticed this came up while I was on messenger...you really dont
see Valkyrie Profile rps anymore though I wish that wasn't the case. I
agree with what the last person said..new blood and ideas could always
revive a fallen thread..that's what I believe anyway. I mean...I came
back just o post his right?
Yeah, this group is pretty dead.

Now, is this group dead?
Hi there,
I stumbled upon this group by searching for Valkyrie Profile
fanfiction. I haven't seen a lot out there on the internet, but my
search has brought me here and I am eager to know if anyone would
like to post any Valkyrie Profile fanfiction that they have either
1) written 2) know of (send author details and permission of
course). I am also looking for original pieces not necessarily
focused on the characters presented in the game.
The link to my site is
http://kingdomzeal.nulani.net/valkyrieprofile.shtml
I don't mean to drop in so suddenly, but I'm hoping to accumulate
quite a lot before I officially pronounce my site as complete, later
on this month. I hope that someone will respond and help me out, to
point me in the right direction or to send me something that they
wrote.
Regards,
Freya (coaa_girls@... or freva-kz@...)
Hi!
My nick is _ArK_, and I recently built a new VP site. This site is in
spanish and have a lot of stuff, including videos, music, downloads
and the biggest gallery of images about the game.
The english version of the web site will be released soon...
I hope all people can visit it and tell me your opinions by email.
My email is ark_crc@... and the web site url is:

or

Thanks
Huh? Isn't Hrist a "bad valkyrie" who actually do anything despicable
means to complete her mission? I seriously don't like Hrist cos she's
too cold blooded. Nah I wouldn't wanna see her as main char in vp3.
Maybe she can be a special character like Lizard but....nah~! haha

Hello
I joined this group as result of hearing the news about both
valkierie profile lenneh for PSP and Valkyrie profile silmeria for the
PS2, I for one would've liked this game to hit the PS3 instead since I
know for a fact that they are going to make this game in 3d and PS2 is
not going to be able to display the beauty that the PSone once
displayed in 2d graphics. Anyways its good news either way.

Tri-Ace is the company that produces the game - Enix was just the publisher. I don't know if Square-Enix will have any say in the matter of what the game is like.
I'm more worried that it'll be a lesser game just because it's a prequel. Sequels and prequels are supposedly never good. But as long as they put real effort into the game and care about the story instead of just cashing in, I think it should be okay. It /looks/ interesting.
I'm more worried they're going to ditch the side-scrolling. Part of what made VP so beautiful was the sprite animation and the backgrounds (visually, I mean).
You know, mailing lists are so handy sometimes. I can double-post all I want. :p
We've all surely heard that a new Valkyrie Profile game has been announced. If you haven't heard, check the news story here: http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q4-2005/120905a.html There's also a magazine scan, which I'd love to have in a larger size, so I can read the text - they link to it in the article.
From what I /can/ read (and what they say in the article), Silmeria's incarnation is the first queen of Dipan. /That/ really makes me itch to get my hands on this game. Dipan was one of my favorite senarios in the
original game, and I've always wanted to know more about it. The information in the Material Collection is still a little far out of my reach. I'd have to spend a few hours on it, and alas, finals are making
that impossible.
Good thing I invested in a Japanese PS2 last year. XD I'm grabbing this as soon as it hits the shelves.
Though it does sound good and all, I'd be more elated if it was done by
ENIX alone... not SquareEnix. Though I haven't got the proof to
back it up, I'm slightly worried that it'll be mangled to the point if
it being not worth getting because Squeenix hasn't exactly had the best
track record since the two companies merged.

incarnation is the first queen of Dipan. /That/ really makes me itch to get
my hands on this game. Dipan was one of my favorite senarios in the
original game, and I've always wanted to know more about it. The

In a manner of speaking, I suppose you did. An error on Yahoo sort of
killed things, but new members and new conversation could always revive it
again. Arcana and I are still around, sort of. Maybe some of the others
are too!
Amber Michelle
myaru@...http://www.myaru.net
I was able to log into Yahoo! Groups today! YAY. This means that I can
now recover all of the information on my old Yahoo groups.
Unfortunately I'm afraid that the damage has already been done and we've
all gone pathetically idle and no longer care about Illusion of Memory.
That's too bad. I know of a few people who are still occasionally writing
IoM posts for nostalgia or for practice but the group as a whole isn't
really around anymore.
Unless anyone has grand inspiration and wants to keep writing stories or
something, then I advise you instead to perhaps mail Amber (Myaru) with
stories so she can put them on the web site. I suppose you can use the
list to send little snippets and stuff like that but don't feel that they
have to be organized or anything. The game itself is over but you can
still write or whatever whenever you want.
As per Arcana's suggestion, I thought I'd make this incredibly long URL
known to the list:
http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=runiclore&keyword=Valkyrie+Pr\
ofile&filter=all
Although most of us don't write IoM stuff anymore, Sam and I occasionally
write stuff involving Judas and Raeger, and vague plans we had for the
future that never came to pass. That URL leads to stuff I write for my
ficjournal. I also intend to (someday) finish the posts I started, even if
they're the last things I write for this list. Just for the sake of
completion and all.
If anyone else wants to mess around with IoM stuff, I'd still be happy to
include it on the site, either in the regular archive or in a special one
reserved for messing around.
Anyway! Man, do I need to update Divine Seal. Ja.
Amber Michelle
myaru@...http://myaru.etherealvoid.net
Yipe. I'm afraid you didn't name anyone else a moderator. What is the
error you're receiving, exactly?
At the least... I'm pretty sure I have every story post, and most of the OOC
messages archived. I'm not sure what happens when a listowner's membership
is cut, but the archive won't be completely lost.
I hoped, but DeM is the only list I co-moderated with you. ;_; Sorry.
Ja.
Amber Michelle
myaru@...http://myaru.etherealvoid.net
Does anyone here have Moderator or Administrative access to Illusion of
Memory/Valkyrie Profile?
As I said before, my Yahoo! ID is toast and I can't log in due to a
drastic system error on the part of Yahoo. Their customer support is
utter crap and I suspect that my account is prone to being frozen for the
next decade or so until they decide to delete it.
Anyway, I'd like to be able to rescue most of the content from IoM before
it disappears. I'm sure that I had a few other important lists there, but
who knows. I'm wondering if anyone here has owner/moderator access to IoM
and would be able to CHANGE the actual owner of the list to someone else.
If that's possible, please do that before my old Yahoo account (ArcanaTxM)
hits the garbage.
Thanks. I'm pretty pissed right now. This in combination with people on
EBay not paying me and the weather being really crappy and all of that.

> Jelanda and the demonthingy (I could quote examples later in the game,
> but it's been a while since I've played in that far, so I'm

That's what gets me. Both Belenus and Nanami were allowed to exchange their
lives for others, but they didn't die in battle. It's clear they're both
virtuous people, but does that alone really qualify them as einherjar? Then
we have Jelanda - is she qualified? /Really/? And Badrach - he managed to
redeem himself (sort of), but like Yumei, he was elevated because of a wish.
I'd think that would qualify them for deliverance from Niflheim, but it's
questionable to me whether they really fit the bill for einherjar.
So yeah, if the requirement is to die a violent death, most of them qualify.
Certainly most of them appear to be good people, and it would seem unjust to
send them into some kind of eternal torment. But the myths weren't really
clear on the nature of Niflheim, either, at least as far as what it meant
for the different groups of dead people. Not that I was able to find.
Thinking about it now, it seems Valkyrie Profile falls under option three -
violent death /or/ battle will get you into Valhalla as an einherjar. Of
course, Lenneth does what she wants from the very beginning. Arngrim wasn't
suitable either, but she kept him anyway.
The problem is, both the game and the myths only focus on warriors, and
leave everyone else in the dust. That's not a problem until someone wants
to write about a non-combatant. I guess it can't hurt to make a little
assuption, but I thought it would be best to ask for opinions.
Ja.
Amber Michelle
myaru@...http://myaru.etherealvoid.net
As far as I can gather, Lenneth chose her Einherjar based mostly on...
their strength of will? Something about the circumstances of death.
Whenever she does that 'soul concentration' (or ... I forget what it's
called, it's what happens when you press 'start' on the world map)
thing, she's 'sounding out' souls that can be potential Einherjar,
yes? For some reason, despair and desperation are always key things,
and the Einherjar-to-be's death is usually violent in some way...
...or involved with the supernatural. Like Belenus and the vampire and
Jelanda and the demonthingy (I could quote examples later in the game,
but it's been a while since I've played in that far, so I'm
uncertain...) ... and yeah.
But that's the pattern I've noticed. Lenneth's supposed to be
harvesting souls for potential warriors, isn't she? Maybe strife is
considered a character-building opportunity or something...
Since I don't have access to my email right now (and I hate Yahoo's
archive), I haven't checked to see if we've covered this before.
How does Lenneth make her judgements about the souls she finds? I did
a little research on Norse Mythology during breaks in kanji study last
week, and I was able to find three options:
- Warriors are sent to Valhalla, and everyone else journeys to Hel
(the old, sick, etc.).
- Warriors and the virtuous are sent to Valhalla, though not all as
einherjar, and only the wicked are sent to Niflheim.
- Entrance to Valhalla requires death by some kind of weapon (implying
battle or struggle), and of course one must be virtuous, but those who
die of old age or sickness aren't admitted.
As far as mythology goes, it would seem the first one is correct, if
you think about the story of Balder. (Thinking /only/ of that - heck
if I can think of another story.) It isn't like they're consistent
about it.
But in Valkyrie Profile that doesn't seem to be the case. Just
looking at the game, it seems Valkyrie takes not only warriors, but
also those who suffer unjust death. Maybe there's a loophole in the
letter of the law that qualifies any kind of violent death as
'battle,' which brings me to option three.
Maybe I'm wrong. It's been forever since the last time I played the
game, so if I'm missing something obvious, please tell me. ^^ Each
of these can create a slightly different story, and I'm torn on which
to take.
Now that I think of it, though, Isabelle kind of makes the choice for
me, doesn't she? Hmm. I don't know why I'm concerned about this. I
think not having a computer gives me too much time to find problems
where there aren't any.
Ja.
Amber Michelle
myaru@...http://myaru.etherealvoid.net
Does that mean I've been missing something? I haven't heard anything
till now. I'm finally in my new place and have the net again so it
should be a little easier to post... if I can fit it in.

You know, they killed my account a while ago too. Stupid Yahoo. I had no
idea when it happened. I was just sitting here wondering why I wasn't
getting any mail until they /finally/ told me my account was bouncing email
for some mysterious reason.
I've been bad; I don't /have/ to wait for Lethe's post, and I probably
shouldn't. I can still squeeze a few adventures into the scene, I'm sure...

Hi guys,
Sorry about the delays with this list. There is one major problem: Yahoo!
managed to lock me out of my account. The lists are apparently still working
and everything is spiff, but there's no way I can administer them because I
can't log in due to some technical problems.
Add to that simple lack of time and you get a pretty annoyed administrator and
a relatively quiet list.
Just thought you should all know!

Persona Sheet
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Player's Name: Amber Michelle
Name: Professor XD
Age/birthdate: How dare you ask! (~30)
Occupation: Professor at the Flenceburg School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Physical description:
XD is younger than Headmistress Lorenta, yet his hair is bone white - people
speculate it's the result of an experiment gone awry. He keeps it long and
wears it looped and pinned up in a way that might confuse people about his
gender if they can't see his face. His eyes are light blue, but otherwise
unremarkable. Their shape makes it obvious he isn't of Yamato origin,
despite his clothing.
He wears a plain, dark blue kimono and four-panel hakama in slate blue.
While not that elaborate, it definitely stands out in Flenceburg. Sometimes
he wears a decorated kataginu over it, and very rarely he'll wear a normal
robe, more suited for a member of the staff - usually for formal occasions.
Personality:
XD is a scatterbrained old man, but he always has good intentions. He never
actually sets out to botch a job; it's his lamentable inability to
concentrate on any one thing for more than an hour that causes disaster.
There's always something more interesting he could be doing, even if he
isn't sure quite what it is. Eventually he /will/ get back to whatever he's
/supposed/ to take care of, but only the gods know /when/. Naturally it
takes him forever to complete projects, and he keeps very odd hours,
sometimes skips sleep altogether if he's really obsessed with something.
He's generally oblivious to other people and their discomfort with these
habits unless someone is blunt about it. He won't take offense - he'll just
attempt to fix the problem. Until he gets involved in something and forgets
again, that is.
Sometimes it seems he overcomes these shortcomings. Occasionally he'll
focus on a task, or an experiment, or a problem, and keep working until it's
solved. If something important or dangerous happens, he's all business.
Some people speculate that his scatterbrained ways are a facade; when he's
forced to act like a /professor/ instead of a mad scientist, he's very
competant.
He's obsessed with everything Japanese. He likes caligraphy, miso soup and
green tea, banana nut bread (which isn't Japanese, but it IS good!), and the
smell of turpentine. (Don't ask.) Most of the time he's all smiles, and
just a tad flamboyant.
History:
XD hails from Flenceburg, like most of the school's teachers. He used to be
a bright-eyed, clever student, sharper than he had any right to be, and in
his day he was known to be Professor Isadore's favorite. His focus was
theology, with a side of healing and a sprinkling of combat magic, meant to
enable him to travel. He wanted to complete his research with hands-on
experience, so he registered with the appropriate department and left
Flenceburg after his first year of graduate study.
He traveled all over the continent, and while in Gerabellum he had his first
taste of Yamato culture. The Japanese are not common in that area, and most
are brought over as slaves, but there are legitimate travelers and
businessmen around too, and what XD learned from them inspired him to cross
the ocean and see the wonderous place for himself. He caught a ride with an
enterprising merchant - probably a slave trader - and paid his way with
magic, whenever it was needed.
He wasn't seen for five years. When he returned to Flenceburg, the clever,
dark-haired student everyone remembered was as he is now. His paper was
kept under wraps by the teacher's council, but he was given an immediate
pass and a job on the faculty staff, though he doesn't teach often. A few
years and another paper later he was promoted to Head of the Theology
department. Whatever happened in Hai-lan, there's no questioning his
mastery of the subject. It's just a matter of getting him to focus long
enough to participate in a proper conversation.
His current project - the one that actually has his attention - is a
fine-tuning of the Japanese way of channeling magic, which is completely
alien to mainland magic users. He's having a bit of trouble getting
authorization for it because the technique has a lot in common with
forbidden magics.
Many people would be correct to wonder why Lorenta allows XD to remain with
the Academy instead of forcing him into (very) early retirement. We may
never know!
Anything else you want to add:
He started out teaching classes in theology, but his lectures were too dark
and ominous. He's much happier working in administration! His casting
ability is average.
--------------------------------
I did a little research on the clothing I chose for XD, but... while I did
read what I could, I still can't describe it very well. What I have him in
is an outfit out of the seventeenth century - samurai garb. That was
closest to what I had in mind, so I think my original vision was too
influenced by anime. It's very un-Yamato, but there weren't any good sites
about /that/. Sniff.
Ominous ideas kept creeping into my mind. I tried to resist!
The reason I suggest the text2html scripts is because... well, it's perfectly
suitable for what you're doing as an incremental archive-maker. Copy and
paste a post, run it through the HTML-izer, and then tada, you have a page
that you can post!
I eventually stopped updating web pages because I was sick of doing it by
hand, actually. I went on to learn databases and templates instead to make
the process a bit easier, but scripts are really easy to use.
This is the way I avoid things I should be doing! Believe it or not, I
really don't mind. I've never been spoiled with automated systems and
scripts, and I've never used HTML editors, so I'm used to the work.
Guardian Angels has been updated by hand like this for six years, and I was
/required/ to do it manually at RPGamer.
As far as the time it takes to update, Divine Seal is a cakewalk.
However... Zakky and I are going to play around with a new design. Maybe
I'll take your advice. But it would probably be better applied to a bigger
archive, like the one at GA.
You don't still convert text to HTML manually, do you?
If you do, I should introduce you to Perl and a few well-known scripts, such
as:
The txt2html script, which, ta-da, turns text to html!
The tidy script, which cleans up ugly HTML to be standards-compliant.
I find the two scripts in combination make decent pages with decent code -
decent enough for you to paste into a template or touch up formatting by
yourself.
Of course, that said, you're NEVER going to ask me about stuff like this
because.... you just won't. ^^
