My fellow Americans, happy Thanksgiving.
For those of you outside the US, perhaps a little explanation is in order. The
character Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer once described Thanksgiving as,
"Ritual sacrifice - with pie!". Oh, and Happy Thursday!
Alton - getting ready to cook
Tamara stepped out of the shower and dried off and slipped into a worn, but comfortable robe. She unpinned her hair and let it hang loose, enjoying the freedom her privacy gave her. The freedom to be just Tamara, not Commander Sheldon, the Executive Officer
She walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a crystal decanter and a matching glass, one of the few things that she had that wasn't Starfleet issue. It had been a gift from her grandfather. He had given her the set, a family heirloom, when she made Lt. Commander. At least someone in the family had cared enough to celebrate. She poured the aged liquor from the decanter into the glass, took a sip and savored the burn as it slid down her gullet.
But she shook off the memories that threatened to invade her quarters, and instead sat down at her computer and pulled up reports of the YAMATO's first trek to Draken IV.
She read the account of the CINGULAR and the UNS ships. How they had been destroyed before either knew what hit them. Would they face the same problems?
Tamara had arrived just after the YAMATO had gotten to Draken IV. She had only viewed some of the horrors that had occured there. But she had seen what the virus could do to those that were unlucky enough to get it.
They'd lost at least 6 crew members. The whole ship had been quarantined, but they had managed to develop a serum that almost worked.
Almost, because no one was sure if the 6 dead died because of the serum or because of the vivrus. No one knew why some took ill, while it seemed the virus passed others by, why some of those that caught it, were only mildly sick, while others were violently ill.
These questions and others would need to be addressed this time. Whatever had effected the habitants of the planet and the ships passing through had to be stopped. Ava Pearson and her team were there to find those answers.
At the thought of Pearson, Tamara took a sip of her drink. Pearson knew a lot about her. Too much for just a casual interest. Looking around, as if someone might be lurking just around the corner, Tamara accessed Pearson's records.
Pearson had gone to Northwestern University. The same college that Ty McGee had gone to. Tamara dug a little deeper and found out that Pearson seemed to have been at a lot of places where the handsome Dr. McGee was also.
She got up and poured herself another drink and everything began to add up. Ty had been seeing Ava Pearson at the same time that they had been living together. Red splotches appeared before her eyes.
"That witch had the nerve to get in my face in the mess hall, knowing she had slept with Ty while we were together. First I'm going to kill Tyvonnis McGee, then I'm going to kill that heifer." Tamara said angrily.
She calmed herself. Then pulled up the rest of the reports about Draken IV. But her concentration was broken. All she could think of was how to get even with Ty and Ava.

USS YAMATO: Polishing Up

Reon slammed another PADD on the desk in frustration.
It was the last of a number of reports that had needed his attention
during the day, and just as the previous ones, it didn't seem to have
been able to satisfy him a bit. It was of those days, when everything
seemed to be less than good, no matter how long you were staring at it.
His comm badge chirped.
[[Bridge to Ensign Seelee, Washington speaking]]
He recognized the voice of the new OPS officer, and let out a small
breath of relief. The fact that neither the Captain or Commander Sheldon
were actually calling him, made the communication a lot less worrying.
"Seelee here, go ahead Lieutenant.", he answered.
[[I am giving a round up to all senior officers as per request of
Commander Sheldon on our new ETA for Draken IV. We expect to be there
tomorrow morning at 0600.]]
A quick glance at the chronometer on his desk revealed that their
arrival was less than 10 and a half hours ahead. Not as much as anyone
would have liked, probably. Time to prepare for a new mission was never
enough, for anybody.
"Understood Lieutenant, thank you. Seelee out.", he closed the link and
leaned back in his chair.
Nobody knew exactly what to expect. He hadn't been aboard the YAMATO
during its previous visit, but he had come to the conclusion that even
those that were, weren't sure about what was waiting for them.
Uncertainty is most definitely one of the biggest enemy for a Security
officer, but apparently was something always on the menu of any
Starfleet officer no matter the time of day. He just needed some time to
get used to it.
The chiming of the door brought him back to reality.
He straightened himself on the chair, and invited his guest to come in.
Ensign Nilsoon entered the office, PADD in hand and a big grin on her
face. The grin grew even bigger when she saw the shape her Chief was in.
"Don't look that happy, Nilsoon. This is not a grumpy face, this is
Starfleet issued facial expression 4756-beta2. It is issued to every
senior officer on any given starfleet, who are required to wear it when
submerged but this much depressing paperworks.", Reon gestured toward
the pile of PADDs waiting on his desk.
She handed over her PADD. "This is going to help you with that, sir. As
a matter of fact, it's pretty good reading."
"Ah! That would be something new for the day, what have we got here?",
he said taking a quick look at the content of the device.
"It's the latest report on the drills we've been running ship wide. The
quarantine drills have been pretty efficient, we've reached an
efficiency of more than 94.6%, and we've been able to lock down critical
part of the ship in less than 4 minutes." She turned around the desk,
peaking now over his shoulder and pointing and some data on the PADD.
"From the first report of an airborne contamination from the Medical
Department, we should be able to deploy containment teams in full bio
suits at all the critical location on the ship needed to assure both
operability and security. I surely hope we won't be using all this
stuff, but we've been able to increase the response time by a 4.5% with
respect of the standard procedure."
Reon scrolled to the end of the report, happy that his deputy had
summarized it for him. "Pretty good, ensign. Actually, pretty damn good
for something put together in less than 36 hours. You've done a fine
job."
She nodded. "We have all, if I may sir. We are as ready as we could be
with such a short notice."
"And that's good," he answered standing up. "I've just received news
from OPS that we've a new ETA for tomorrow morning at 0600. I guess this
was your dress rehearsal after all. We'd better give everybody not on
duty right now a good evening out, hoping they'll have enough time to
manage their hangovers by tomorrow morning."
"Will do, sir." Anna slowly walked toward the door, just to stop in
front of it. She turned around.
"What about you, Chief? Gonna have some time off too?"
He scratched his head, messing up what was left of his 'standard hair
attire'. "These are not going to sort out by themselves..." he pointed
at his desk.
"I understand. But if you were to change your mind, or to use your
phaser to get rid of all those PADDs early enough, I'm meeting with
Tokath and Jameson in the mess hall for a couple of shots and some
laughs." she smiled, nodded, and left the room.
The bajoran looked at the desk, and then at the closing door.
Maybe the phaser was not really an option, not if he wanted to keep his
job for another day, but he could sure use a bit of off time. Paying a
visit to the mess hall could probably be squeezed in his evening
schedule. Just between feeding the starving feline entity inhabiting
his quarters and processing at least half of that paperwork.
It could work, after all.

After the ship hit warp 8 Kristopher finally sat back down in the center chair. He couldn't help
but remember what had happened last time with the disappearing star base and the Androids.
" At least they knew what was happening but why and who they were being sent to find out, "
which were the questions going through his head.
Kristopher's lack of sleep was starting to catch up with him even though he would get up and
walk around the bridge doing his best to keep alert of things going on. His persistence had
worked for almost the whole day shift but in the end he had to give in. He told Tamara he
was going to get some sleep and headed for his quarters to grab a few hours at least that's
what he hoped. Arriving in his quarters he took off his uniform and dropped into bed a very
tired person. As tired as he was Kristopher tossed and turned trying to get settled for
some much needed rest. Finally he drifted off but it wasn't a sound sleep. He kept having
dreams about the first time the ship was at Draken IV and what happened.
The man only slept about 5 hrs and he was up feeling like he'd slept only two if that. Getting
himself a cup of tea he decided he had to do something to relax so he got the thought about
the holodeck. Looking in a special case he had he pulled out a blue outfit with white piping
on the selves of the sweat shirt and down the long pants The shoes almost looked like ballet
shoes as they had no hard soles to them. Kristopher changed notified Sparks he'd be in
holodeck one grabbed a small round container that had a white powder on it and was out
the door.
Reaching the holodeck he told the computer to run program " mountain 1 " and entered to find
his mountain staring at him with all of it's obstacles. Opening the small container he put some
white powder on his hands rubbing it in as he studied what was before him as it had been a fairly longtime since he had run the program. " He use to do this without the safety controls
on, but times had changed and he was the CO of the ship now. It would still help him relax, "
he thought as he took his first steps up.
Kristopher was finding that he had forgotten where to step and grab hold with his hands as he progressed up. He knew one thing, " he wasn't in the best of shape for what he was doing.
The man found himself having to stop more than usual The further he went up his muscles were beginning to ache and he knew that it was time for him to start working out in the ships
gym. When he reached the top the sweat was pouring off of him and his breathing was
harder than it should be.
Kristopher sat on the top of that mountain knowing he had changes to be made. " He'd been
sitting in his chair more than he should and was going to do something about it, " he told
himself as he started climbing down. Of course the climb down was easier than going up
but he still had to look for holds so he wouldn't slip. In time he finally was at the bottom of
his mountain and found out though feeling very tired he felt more relaxed than when he had
started. " It's amazing what a little mountain climbing can do to relax a person, " he thought
I don't know if you intended this, but it could be interpreted in 2
ways:
Ava Pearson came out of the mess hall behind Tamara, a smug
smile
on her face. It had always galled her that Ty would never leave Tamara
for her. Now she'd get her revenge.
1. That Ava is going to try to drive Ty and Tamara apart so that she
(Ava) can have him, or
2. She's going to get her revenge on both of them by driving them
together so they commit to a long-term relationship where they can
snipe at each other often at close range.
Personally, I think that the latter is more severe punishment. :-)

Folks,
I'm going to be traveling for business most of the next week, and the week after
is Thanksgiving. So, I'll likely be a little slow to post or respond to emails
from you. I will have email access through the entire period, so I will
eventually see things and act on them.
Mary: I have an AMBERJACK post about half done, but I'm not certain when I'll
get it finished.

Departing on a new mission never got old for Tamara. As she sat on the bridge, watching the helmsman go through the routine to get them out and away from the station, she felt like a little girl at Christmas again.
The anticipation tied her stomach in knots. And the view of the station as they hit the jump gate and prepared to go to warp, always left her breathless. But she tried hard to remember that she was now an Executive Officer on one of the best ships, in one of the best Fleets in all of Starfleet.
She had always loved being a Starfleet offiver. But after being transferred to Silver Fleet over a year before, she realized just how much she loved her job. Of course it still had it's moments, but for the most part the good far out weighed the bad.
Ian was finally getting some much needed rest, so Tamara had held down the bridge until time for the night shift to replace the day shift.
The doors to the bridge swooshed open and Lt. Douglas Washington stepped onto the bridge. Tamara stood up and said, "Lt. Washington, welcome to your first duty shift as OPS officer. If anything arises, please contact Commander McGregor or myself at once."
"Yes, Ma'am." Washington said.
"Lt. Yeager, ETA to Draken IV?" Tamara asked.
"We should enter the space over Draken IV at about 0600 hours tomorrow Commander." The Helmsman said.
"Very good. Keep us posted if that changes. Lt. Washington, welcome to the USS YAMATO, you have the bridge." Tamara stepped down and headed for the door.
The doors opened and she exited the bridge. She headed to the mess hall to get something to eat. Usually she ate in her quarters, but tonight she wanted to be out and among the crew.
The ship was still bustling as new personnel tried to get settled in and there had of course, been the usual chaos which was intensified because of their sudden deployment. What usually took a week to get on board had been done in a matter of hours.
So as she walked down the corridors, there were still people trying to find their quarters, supplies that hadn't been inventoried yet was stacked all up and down the corridors. She understood the urgency to get to the planet, but this was ridiculous.
She entered the mess hall, got a plate of food and found a table. Even here it was chaotic. The kitchen staff were as rushed and disorganized as the rest of the departments.
The door of the mess hall opened and Ava Pearson walked in. She stopped a moment to look around, then got a cup of coffee amd headed straight for Tamara's table.
"Commander Sheldon isn't it? Mind if I sit down?" She asked with a smile.
"Yes, I'm Commander Sheldon. No, I don't mind." Tamara said.
Ava slid into the vcacant seat, took a sip of her coffee, giving her time to access Tamara Sheldon.
Tamara remained silent, taking a bit of her food.
"I was very happy when they gave me this assignment." Ava said, pushing her hair back from her face. "I'm looking forward to the mission. You just never know what you'll find on a mission like this."
"No you never do." Tamara said.
Ava paused, then said, "I heard about the trouble you had in Cochrane Fleet. Nasty business. But I can't believe that Warren Brickford would really stoop that low. My Daddy plays golf with his father and grandfather all the time. They were appalled at the allegations."
Tamara picked up the glass of tea and took a long sip. "I really don't care who golfs with who, or who kisses whose ass. Warren Brickford is a prick. And one day, and I hope very soon, someone is going to stop the bastard. My only sorrow at that is that I won't be there to spit on his rotten carcass."
"My, my we're a little bitter arent' we?" Ava said, with a tight smile.
"Hell no, WE aren't anything. But I hate the bastard, and if I thought I could get away with gutting him and not serving time, I'd do it in a heart beat. And you're welcome to tell your daddy that, so that when he's brown nosing with Brickford's old man and his senile grandfather, he can tell them that also."
Tamara got up and picked up her plate and glass and started towards the recycler, Ava decided to get in one more punch. "Seems you're always having trouble with men. I hear Ty McGee dumped you too."
Tamara stopped and turned towards Ava Pearson. "Dr. Pearson let me explain one thing to you. You are NOT a Starfleet officer. You ARE on a Starfleet vessel. I AM the Executive Officer of said vessel. You can make this an easy mission or you can make it hard for yourself. The choice is yours. And remember, if you back me into a corner, I come out swinging. I don't give a flying fig who your daddy plays golf with."
She threw the dishes in the recycler and turned and left the mess hall. She was fuming as she started towards her quarters. She thought about going to sick bay and give Ty McGee an earful, but as mad as she was, she would probably shoot him. So she headed to her quarters to cool off.
Ava Pearson came out of the mess hall behind Tamara, a smug smile on her face. It had always galled her that Ty would never leave Tamara for her. Now she'd get her revenge.
MD: 1.1630 - Sickbay
Ensign Jordan Stern picked his way through the mess that filled Sickbay.
He passed Dr. Ava Pearson as she headed in the other direction.
She seemed to be in a good mood, which meant that either Dr. McGee
didn't hit on her, or that she enjoyed it. Jordan couldn't decide which
from the enigmatic look on her face.
He reached Ty's office door and tapped on the frame.
Ty looked up and said, "I've got a big enough mess on my hands already,
so you can turn around and go away."
Jordan smiled, "They you won't get to hear the good news."
"You have good news?" Ty asked. Jordan nodded. "For me?"
"Yeah," Jordan replied. "We've gotten all the other supplies stowed in
cargo bay 2."
"Other supplies? You mean there's more?"
"This stuff," Jordan gestured behind him, "is for rapid response.
There's a lot more available, if you need it."
"I can't keep track of all this stuff. How am I supposed to keep track
of more?" Ty sighed with a hint of exasperation in his voice.
"Ah," Jordan said stepping farther into the office, "That I can help
with." He walked over to Ty's desk, "This thing is a computer terminal.
You can use it," Jordan tapped an icon, "to access the database that
will tell you what we have and where everything is."
"Very funny, Stern. I know how to use the computer. Now go away so I
can get some stuff done."
Jordan turned to leave, but then hesitated and turned back around. "My
curiosity is killing me. When I saw Dr. Pearson, she didn't look like
many women do when they leave your office after you hit on them."
"That's," Ty said, "because she hit on me."
Jordan's mouth dropped open, but no sound came out.
"Now keep that to yourself, and get out of my office."
Jordan pointed at Ty, "I will buy you a beer, and you will tell me the
story, because I don't believe it."

Jordan Stern - CEO - YAMATO
The ship had just pulled out from SB EPSILON, but already things were crazy in sick bay. The quartermaster had sent over so many supplies that there was no where to put them all, and getting an accurate inventory was nearly impossible. In addition, new pesonnel had been assigned only hours before the ship left, and now Ty was trying to find out where every one fit. Not to mention, the lack of sleep for the week they had been on EPSILON, and the god-awful hangover that he had now were trying to descend on him with all their fury.
And every time the door opened, he jumped. He knew sooner or later that Ava Pearson would come down to see him. His only hope was that Tamara didn't know about their past. His roommate when he played in the NBA had told him that sooner or later your sins always find you out. When Ava Pearson had stood up at the briefing, he knew that his had came home to roost.
He'd immediately thought of just leaving the ship. Just walk away, and keep walking. Nothing Starfleet could do to him, would be as bad as having to work with Ava and Tamara on the same ship. Things were going to get ugly....FAST.
"Dr. McGee?"
Ty almost jumped out of his skin. He spilled coffee all over the front of his lab coat. "Yes? And stop sneaking up on me like that."
"I'm sorry." The woman said, looking at Ty curiously. "I'm Rita Sloan. I was told to report to you." She handed him the PADD with her info on it.
Ty grabbed a towel and tried to wipe some of the spilled coffee off his coat. "Lt. Rita Sloan." He said reading off the PADD. Been in Starfleet for almost 20 years."
"Yes, Sir. Worked for a lot of good doctors on a lot of good ships. This will probably be my last assignment. Then I'm turning in my papers. My daughter lives in Florida with her two kids. Time I settled down and played grandma to the little brats." Rita said.
"Ok. You're my new Head Charge Nurse." Ty said.
"Thank you Dr. McGee." Rita said.
"Your first order of business is to fire my Physician's assistant." Ty said with a grin.
"Fire your P.A? Why?" Rita asked, wondering what the hell she'd stepped into.
"Just kidding. He's a pain in my butt, and I don't like him. But I lack the authority to fire him. But anyway, welcome aboard, Lieutenant Sloan." He held out his hand.
"Please call me Rita. Everyone said you were nuts. Now I believe them." Rita said, as the door opened.
"Nuts, yes. Handsome, yes. Shallow and definitely committment shy, But you can't help but love him." Ava Pearson said.
"Ava. Nice to see you again. This is Rita, my new charge nurse. Rita, this is Dr. Ava Pearson. She's with the UHO." Ty said, perspiration sliding down his back beneath his shirt.
"Nice to meet you Dr. Pearson." Rita said. "Dr. McGee, where would you like me to start?"
He picked up several PADDs and handed them to her. "This is the inventory we're supposed to have aboard. Good luck."
Rita looked at the PADDs, then back at McGee. "Maybe I should have went ahead and retired before this assignment. All right, I'll find your inventory."
Ava waited until the door closed, then said, "And you've just driven another poor woman insane. Must be that famous McGee charm. How have you been Ty?"
McGee sat down in his chair and said, "I'm fine. And it really is good to see you again, Ava. I heard you'd joined the UHO."
Pearson sat down on the corner of his desk, and studied him a moment before saying, "Yes, I did. When they gave me this assignment, I didn't know that you were aboard. But I did know that Tamara was. How's that working out?"
Ty rubbed his hand over his face and said, "It's working out pretty good."
"Does she know about us?" Ava asked.
Ty shrugged. "I don't know. You never know with Tamara." He leaned forward and said, "But Ava, I'd consider it a special favor, if you didn't mention anything to her. Tamara isn't exactly the kind of woman that you want to piss off."
"Back when we were together, it didn't seem to bother you then." Ava's dark eyes swept over Ty. "In fact, cheating on her with me, seemed to turn you on. If I remember correctly."
"Yes, but back then, she didn't have a phaser and wasn't as skilled at using one. And she wasn't the Executive Officer of the ship I was working on. I don't think either of us can afford to alienate her." He said, realizing that this was going to be a very long mission indeed.
Ava swung her hips off the desk and said, "Ty, do you really think I'd do anything to cause you trouble?" She stood on tip toes, planted a quick kiss on his lips and left the office.
Ty stood there and looked up towards the heavens and said, "Ok, I gave half the money I won gambling to charity. I called my Mom last week. Ok, so I lied to her about attending church, but come on, give me a break. You and I both know that having Ava Pearson and Tamara Sheldon on this ship isn't going to bode well for Ty McGee. What is this? Some kind of a test? Or is it your way of getting even?"
