((Captain's Quarters - USS Columbia))
::The Columbia was about a day away from StarBase 118, traveling at a
cruising speed. Soon, the ship would be in the care of engineers,
looking to refit the ship and bring it back up to speed with some of
the latest in technologies. In the meantime, it meant that the crew
would have to vacate the ship as they prepared for their transfer to
StarBase 118. Most of the crew would be joining the StarBase 118
staff, while some others would be reassigned. Many of the Ops staff
would be new, either from other assignments, while the remainder would
be made up of some existing personnel.::
::Captain Avatar would also be receiving two other new officers in the
command structure of the StarBase staff. An intelligence chief and a
commander of a marine detachment would also be part of their crew.
According to the command structure that the captain had approved,
these two officers would be reporting to Commander Moranta.::
::With the time on the ship winding down, the captain was spending
some time packing up his things in his quarters. He removed his
framed Starfleet Academy hockey jersey, reminiscing about those glory
days. He pulled down some other Andorian art that he had in his
quarters.::
::During the course of the packup, the door to his quarters chimed, it
was Commander Moranta. The doors opened upon the captain's command
and the first officer entered.::
AVATAR: Ahhh, C'elest. I hope that you are feeling much better.
MORANTA: response
AVATAR: And congratulations on your promotion. Achieving the rank of
commander is something to be proud of...even if you are half-Vulcan.
MORANTA: response
AVATAR: Please, please take a seat. You can place that box on the floor.
MORANTA: response
::The captain and his first officer sat down in the sitting area of
the captain's quarters. It was a bit disheveled with all of the
packing, but it was still in working order.::
AVATAR: I wanted to talk to you about a few things. Although I
believe that a lot of the strange occurences that happened on our
latest mission were as a result of our crash-landing situation, I do
have some concerns regarding discipline.
MORANTA: response
AVATAR: For one, Starfleet is going to question my decision to promote
Ramirez, despite my decision to file a reprimand. Generally these two
actions do not go hand in hand, but I do have my reasons.
MORANTA: response
AVATAR: Ramirez is a good officer, despite the manner in which he
sometimes gets his point across. He saved many lives on the planet
and without his help we might still be there. However, I cannot
entirely overlook striking of a senior officer.
MORANTA: response
AVATAR: But at the same time, I have to step back and wonder why an
officer would strike another. Commander Anderson was the recipient of
the blow. Once again, another good officer, but one who needs to gain
control of his emotions. I don't necessarily blame him for getting
punched, but at the same time he wears his emotions on his sleeves
which can be dangerous in the thick of things. At times I worry that
he has developed a sense of entitlement because of his rank and
position and as a result does not have the full respect of his
subordinates. For these reasons, I have concerns.
