My experience with plane crashes is that most (but not all) can be
prevented by keeping the following things in mind:
- Service your planes regularly.
- Frequently replace your planes with newer models. Old models steadily
lose reliability.
- Never let a large, fast aircraft land at a small airport - replace
your airports with larger ones!
- Do not use the Yate model (the extremely fast one) - it crashes more
often.
- If a Zeppelin wreck is blocking your airport, destroy the airport and
build a new one. This is more efficient than waiting for the wreck to be
cleared (this takes more than a year). If you want to be rid of those
Zeppelins once and for all, turn off 'disasters' in the options menu.
BTW, I'm from the Netherlands. Anyone else?

Hi, I'm from Indonesia,
Does anybody know how to avoid plane crash?
I'd had one accident when a zepplin came to my airport and fall down.
Its remnant blocked my airport, so my planes cannot land nor fly.
Had anybody had any experience like that?
Thanks for your attention.
PS: Sorry if my english isn't good.
Has anybody made a WinAmp skin to make WinAmp look like Jazz Jukebox? This is
*definitely* an object of desire. I'd attempt to make one myself, but I'm not
sure how they're put together.
If there isn't one, and somebody can tell me how to make a skin (or where to
find out for myself) I'll give it a go.

Not big, as far as I can tell. Expect few mailings.
I'm from the UK! And that's about it.

I can't accept a railway sim that "abstracts out"
sidings and signals. Where's the fun? The
programmer in me simply wants to spend hour upon
hour optimizing stations and switches.

I played the demo at a friend's house, the train's movement looks too
artificial, you can't get rid of stations, and it just lacks the "hooked for
hours" feel of TTD.
Give me TTD any day,

First we need to know if you would like to play from Windows 95 or from
good old DOS?
Windows 95 is pretty simple, since it comes with the IPX protocol. Dos
however doesn't come with the IPX protocol, so that makes thing a little
more complicated.
Let me know if you still need help and with what kind of operatingsystem
and I'll help you through it.
Regards
Martin

Hello, tycoons. Just wondering how big this list
was, and wether I can expect lots of mail from it.
How many people on the list live in the UK? Just
curious, I've had nothing yet, but it's only been
a couple of days.

I tried downloading it at the weekend, at 42k. It got to about 50% (~1.5
hours) and their ftp server fell over.
I give up.
I'm with you about file size - at least they could have offered a smaller
demo without movies as an alternative.

Could this be what they said about the graphics not being optimized?
Still, doesn't sound ideal.
Perhaps we should encourage Chris Sawyer in his development of TT3...

I played in on a p 166 with 32 meg ram and the trains were a bit
jumpy and the game a bit slow

I agreee with most of that
Its a pretty good game ... but its more like transport tycoon 2
without the busses trucks planes and ships. The trains still jump
around the bends ... it focuses on the graphics which are sort of
slow ... with the game sped up it goes about 1 frame a second ... you
can't delete stations ... which is really really annoying ... and
there are way too many types of buildings ...
besides those gripes it is a pretty good game
The graphics are more realistic and the hills are more real ... even
though trains can't seem to go up them and its pretty good how it is
based on an actual part of the world and things which happened in the
past ... all in all its a good game but I wouldn't even think of
downloading it on a 56k let alone on a 33.6

I just downloaded the demo today.
I have a cable modem so it was no prob. Yet I would have never downloaded it on
my old 33.6. The demo size was a bad decision, they even included movies in it!
The minimum requirements are:
P133 16Meg (32 recommended) Video Card capable of 1024x768 in 16-bit.
I have P133 48 Meg RAM and a good video card.
Needless to say the game looks beautiful but you will need at least a 166 or a
200 to really experience it.
There is also something strange about the train movement, it's very jumpy and
artificial looking. Also, I find that there is something missing in the game, I
think that it's the competition of RRT1. In RR2 you can't take a station over,
you can pull into it with your train and both companies can use it
simultaniously.
In conclusion don't buy the game if all you have is a 133, multiple trains will
make the game slow. You should consider a 200 as a minimum requirement.
That's all,
Phil

It's official, a playable demo of Railroad Tycoon 2 has been released.
Get it at:
http://www.gamespot.com/strategy/railroad/
Unfortunately it's 45MB (!), so I know I won't be downloading it over my
33.6 modem anytime soon! It also requires Windows 95 (which I despise)
and DirectX. Oh well. If anyone has a chance to download and play RRT2,
tell us what you think about it!

I'm setting up an online database of TTD maps and scenarios making it easy
for people to find the maps they want regardless of how many sites are out
there. I would appreciate any comments, and ideas for this system at
http://www.netcentral.co.uk/~pred
thanks, DTMI

YES! there's a problem. some of our email quotas are small: 512kb in my
case (and no, i cant change isp's. and hotmail wont work over shell. and
tcp/ip is too expensive here. where am i? see header...)

Only that you'll annoy half the people on the list!
If you have a scenario, advertise it on the list by all means, but don't go
clogging up people's intrays with a huge file they might not be interested
in.
I'm sure there's plenty of people on the list who have web space where they
can host a scenario for you - just ask!
