The received their B-26s (Model A?) in November 1941, and B-26Bs in
May when at Patterson Field. Later that month they moved to Hickam
Field, HI. Three crews were sent to Midway Island on June 2, 1942 and
two of these crews participated in the Battle of Midway. One was shot
down, the other returned but crashed with the crew safe. (Two other
crews were from the 22nd Bomb Group.)

In June they moved to New Caledonia and became the first medium bomber
unit in that theater. (22nd was in Oz/Port Moresby.) They were also
the first unit on Plaines de Gaies Field. The missions until November
were mostly patrols. Bombing missions began in November.
