Neoncon's Economic Relief Package
October 17th, 2008

*|FNAME|*,

Over the last few weeks, emails and phone calls from friends and alumni of
Neoncon have made it clear that current worldwide economic concerns have
caused folks to make tough choices about where they spend their
entertainment dollars. With this in mind, Team Neoncon has decided to do
it's part to help out.

Effective immediately, 4-Day Badges have been reset to the early-bird price
of $45. Badge prices were set to jump from $60 to $75 today, so we have
effectively discounted our badges by $30 to help give everyone a break. If
you have received a discount code in the past, it remains in effect for an
additional $5 off.

LINK: http://www.neoncon.com/registration/#badges

This pricing remains in effect until the show opens on October 30th. On the
Day of the show, 4-Day Badges will be $60, instead of $75. One-day badges
will only be sold at the show and will cost $30. Pricing for LARP-only and
individual event ticket are not effected.

Some of you are probably thinking ... "Hey! I already bought a badge for
$60 dollars! What gives?" No worries. We know who you are and will be
refunding your $15 at the show. By giving you the cash at the show, both you
and Neoncon avoid another $3 hit in PayPal fees.

With Neoncon less than two weeks away, here are a few things you should
remember:

FIRING ON ALL 8 CYLINDERS
Neoncon 2008 :: October 4th Update
==============================================

A lot has been happing with Neoncon. For starters the website itself has been
updated and improved. You were telling us that the shopping cart we used
before had issues. So, we've done our homework and found a better solution
based on the excellent Wordpress publishing platform. As a result, the entire
site has been rebuilt from the ground up to be cleaner, leaner and faster.

The new platform also allows us to easily post event updates to the site and
embed our Warhorn slot registration site as well. Now, everything you need
can be found in one place. Finally, moving to Wordpress allows us to add
some cool new features for conference attendees. We are still testing these
new features and will be rolling them out in the upcoming days/weeks.

More importantly, we have a bunch of very cool announcements about the
show itself. Without further delay ...

SMART FUN
==============================================

Dealer's  Hall
==============================================
Our exhibitor hall will include Little Shop of Magic and Action Sports and
Comics. Other dealers are in the works as well.

The Breakfast Table
==============================================
As gamers, we understand that breakfast is the most important meal of the
day at a convention. Therefore, we've worked with Palace Station Hotel and
Casino to provide a breakfast table in the main gaming hall on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. While you are welcome to take advantage of the many
great on-site restaurants, the Breakfast Table allows you to roll in to the
gaming hall before your first event, grab a reasonably priced meal and
take it directly to your gaming table.

Cash Bar
==============================================
This is Vegas! So, in the afternoon and evening, we will also have a cash bar
available in the convention hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Beer, mixed
drinks and soda will be available. Have fun and please drink responsibly.

Costume Contest
==============================================
Friday is Halloween. So, everyone is encouraged to game in costume that
evening. We'll be awarding prizes in a variety of costume categories, so have
fun with it. Feel free to dress up all weekend long, but be sure to Friday
evening!

Trick  or  Treat
==============================================
Missing the door-to-door candy haul? We have you covered! There will be lots
of great treats (and perhaps a few tricks) at the tables on Friday night!

SOCIAL NETWORKS

In the 21st century, online social networks are an important part of
connecting people with common interests. With this in mind, Neoncon has
established a beachhead in the social media scene. Check us out and
"friend/follow" us at one of the venues below. Spread the word within your
social network and we will give you $20 off of your badge! Details below.

==============================================
STORYTELLERS, JUDGES, GMs & OTHER VOLUNTEERS
==============================================
As with any good gaming convention, we are always looking for more
storytellers/judges/GMs. Specifically, good RPGA judges are always valuable
additions to the team. As in the past, Paizo Publishing is supporting
our GM pool by providing the foundation to the "Ultimate GM Kit". We are
still working on the details, but it will be pretty special again this year.

LINK: http://paizo.com

If you are interested in running games at Neoncon, shoot an email to
judges@... or join our Judges Yahoo Group (link below). Interested in
running something which is not on our schedule? We would love to hear from
you as well. We should have plenty of table space for games and game demos,
so reach out and let us know what you want to run. We'll make every effort
to get it on the schedule.

LINK: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/neoncon-judges

We are still working to bring in more events and more games to this year’s
Neoncon to make it the best event possible. 4 Day Badges are still only
$60.00 and our special Camarilla LARP-only badges are only $25.00. These
rates and our hotel room rates only last until October 17th. Don’t be
left out register today and save.

I am happy to invite you to Neoncon 2008; Las Vegas' biggest and best gaming
convention. Across the board, Neoncon 2007 attendees had good things to say;
some said it was the best gaming event they had ever attended. We were truly
humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response. Neoncon 2008 aims to be bigger
and better; but not so much so that we lose our touch and our audience.

While Circus Circus served us well last year, that choice of venue was our
biggest complaint. Overall, folks thought the hotel did not provide much value
for their dollar. So, this year we are happy to partner with Palace Station
Hotel and Casino. With rooms ranging from $49-$135/night, our rates provide the
best overall value I've ever seen at a gaming convention. Also, we had the rates
extended around Neoncon, so you can stay a few days before or after and do the
"what happens in Vegas" thing! Follow the link below to check out our
rooms/rates and get the discounted booking code.

LINK: http://www.neoncon.com/pages/hotel

This year, we expand to four days. Our new schedule allows us to add more games
and special events. Though we are adding new events all of the time, I can
confirm the following so far:

* D&D Dungeon Delve - The Royal Gambit
* Living Greyhawk Pale/Nyrond Bordercon
* Living Forgotten Realms
* Pathfinder Society
* Greyhawk Reborn
* Serial Pulp Adventures
* Living Arcanis
* Warhammer 40K - Rogue Trader Tournament
* Warhammer 40K - Apocalypse Event
* D&D Miniatures - Las Vegas Open
* D&D Miniatures - Dungeon Run
* Star Fleet Battles - Rated Ace Captain's Tournament
* Star Fleet Battles - Open Patrol Tournament
* Star Fleet Battles - The Omega Sector
* Federation Commander
* Vampire Camirlla LARP (An Overcap XP Event)
* Mage LARP
* Changeling LARP

The D&D Dungeon Delve (The Royal Gambit) is a Neoncon exclusive. This event ran
at DDXP, Origins, Gencon and PAX. Now, Neoncon is your last chance to play the
Delve again in 2008. Jump into D&D 4th Edition and get as far you can in 30
minutes. Along the way, earn special rewards including mini repaints and
exclusive RPGA reward cards which can be used to enhance your Living Forgotten
Realms characters. In addition to special events for Living Greyhawk
(Pale/Nyrond Bordercon), Star Fleet Battles (Rated Ace Tourney), Vampire
(Overcap XP Camarilla Event) and D&D Miniatures (Vegas Open), we are working on
a few more surprises that we will announce as soon as things are finalized.

LINK: http://www.neoncon.com/pages/schedule
LINK: http://www.neoncon.com/pages/games

Convention registration is open. This year, we have added single-day badges, so
if you can only make one or two days, you do not have to pay full price. Still,
the 4 Day Badge offers the best overall value for your dollar. Right now, we are
offering special early bird pricing. Early bird pricing and ends on September
19th at Midnight and is limited to 200 one day badges ($25) and 50 four day
badges ($45). At around $10/day for a jam-packed schedule, that is one smoking
deal! Prices only go up from there, so do yourself a favor and register now
using the link below.

LINK: http://www.neoncon.com/collections/badges

Warhorn is now open for RPG slot registration! The complete Living Greyhawk and
Living Forgotten Realms schedules are now up (link below). You may sign-up on
Warhorn to see the complete schedule and will be cleared to sign up for
individual games once you've purchased your badge.

LINK: http://www.warhorn.net/Neoncon2008

In closing, I would be remiss if we neglected to thank all the volunteers who
donate their time and effort on behalf of Neoncon; now and in the past. You know
who you are. Those who spent hours play testing games, reviewing stat blocks,
making phone calls, stuffing bags, running games, manning desks, entering data,
traveling cross country, sacrificing hotel room and air fare, driving hours on
end, and doing a ton of other self-sacrificing stuff, we thank you!

I look forward to spending my Halloween with everyone, playing games, making
friends and, of course, defeating evil!

See you October 30th!

One thing people may have noticed is that there is no Living Greyhawk
mentioned on my previous post. This is because there is no Living
Greyhawk scheduled however as usual I will have a library of scenarios
available people wanting to arrange games and they will be reported with
the rest of the Gen Con UK Games. I am planning on having all the Year 7
and Year 8 Onnwal and Splintered Suns modules plus as many of the Core
modules as I can. If there are any specific requests can people let me
know. Note I can't provide gm's, but I can provide the module and space
to play it.

OK as some people may have already noticed there is now a lot more of a
schedule up on the Gen Con UK site (http://www.consupport.com), almost
all of the Living Schedule is there (still awaiting details from the
Queen & Country crew but they are planning on running at Gen Con UK) and
a number of non Living games are also there with more coming up as
details come through. At the moment there is the following to choose
amongst:

Living Forgotten Realms (8 modules, one a two round one) - the new
Living Campaign from Wotc using D&D 4E
In Fear No More - the three part D&D Championship form Gen Con Indy
being run as 3 classic style adventures (ie no competition, no need to
sign up as a team)
Return to the Moathouse - a stand alonse D&D 4E classic style adventure
with pre-gen characters or create your own.
The Betrayal of Darth Revan - a Star Wars Saga Edition classic style
adventure
Pathfinder Society (4 modules) - the new Living Campaign from Paizo
using D&D 3.5
Living Arcanis (3 modules & Marketplace) - the three most recent hard
point adventures from Paradigm Concepts Living Campaign using D&D 3.5
Shadowrun Missions (4 modules) - four modules from the new New York
story arc from Cataylst Games Lab Living Campaign using Shadowrun 4
Dragonmouth - a new module for the UK based Living Campaign that uses
Iron Heroes and launched at Gen Con UK 2007, and they have some exciting
news to come

In addition to that lot there is also the following

Ars Magica, Call of Cthullu, CJ Carella's Witchcraf, Earthdawn, Icar,
Kult, Shadowrun 3rd Edition, The Dying Earth, Unknown Armies and of
course Flammable Penguins bring some South African scenarios.

Of course we could always do with more scenarios and volunteers to GM
these scenarios, so feel free to volunteer as well as sign up to play.

Hi all,

Just letting you know, I just made ESA8-02 Old Debts available. It is
the last Splintered Suns metaregional. My appologies for all the
plot-lines left unfinished, but we just did not had enough authors to
finish up.

My thanks for the wonderful 9 years of LG gaming, and who knows, until
LFR or some other convention. [And no, I will not attend UK GenCon;
there is only so much time I can spend away from work ;)]

ESA8-02 Old Debts
by Sampo Haarlaa

14 years ago the armies of Ivid destroyed most of Pontylver in an orgy
of violence. Now its harbor has finally been fully restored, and its
docks have produced the first ships to rebuild the Ahlissan fleet.
This is cause for a celebration and all are invited. This close to the
cursed grounds of mainland Pontylver a few wonder if it is a good
idea, wondering whether violence will strike. A 1-round metaregional
with an optional encounter set in Pontylver in Ahlissa for character
levels 2-15 (APL 4 to 12).

Yours sincerely,

Pieter Sleijpen

There will be no scheduled LG (traditionally the scheduled LG has been the
new modules that premiered at Gen Con Indy, and the last new LG premieres at
Origins). I will be ordering plenty of LG modules though so that if people
want to organise their own games I can provide the modules and report them,
in the same way I do for most cons I organise.

No word on Living Greyhawk? Is some kind of guide line given, so that no LG
modules should be played at Gen Con then? I'm a bit troubled.
Not that I'm coming; the distance and expenses are a bit too great.

Hi all,

It is a bit late, but I finally managed to finish ESA8-01 Calling of
the Mines. It is the sequel to ESA7-04 Head or Tails and the final
part of the Calling Mines series. It is available for play
immediately. If you run into any problems do not hesitate to mail me
(the sooner the better).

ESA8-01 Calling of the Mines
by Pieter Sleijpen

For years escaped Calling Mines convicts have fought against their
former guards and everybody who got in their way. Now with their
defeat an almost forgone conclusion, the authorities finally have the
time and inclination to look beyond the obvious. They need people to
go look under the stones… literally. A 1-round metaregional set in the
Hollow Highlands in Ahlissa for character levels 4-15 (APL 6 to 14).
Final part of the Broken Chain series and sequel to ESA7-04 Head or Tails.

Yours sincerely,

Pieter Sleijpen

While I obviously don't know exactly what modules will be being run at
Gen Con UK I do already have an idea of how many gm's I will be needing
for the RPGA part of the Living prorgamme.

All the RPGA modules running at Gen Con UK will be using D&D 4e rules
thus all volunteer gm's will need to be familiar with them. In addition
I will need enough volunteers to man the desk in the roleplaying area.

Thanks to Wizards of the Coast there is a generous rewards program for
these volunteers:

6+ RPGA slots: Accomodation (shared bathroom facilities, an amount of
free Wizards of the Coast products, 2x£5 food vouchers per day

9+ RPGA slots: As 6+ slots plus a copy of each 4e product released after
Gen Con UK until the end of the year.

Less than 6 RPGA slots: an amount of free Wizards of the Coast products.

If you wish to volunteer for both RPGA and non-RPGA slots this is
possible although only RPGA slots will count for the rewards listed above.

It is not currently possible to volunteer on consupport however I would
like those interested to contact me directly at the following email
address: rpga <at> genconuk <dot> com

Likewise if anyone has any questions feel free to contact me.

Cheers

Greetings all,

We have won. The battle is over. The Wastrian army is scattered and
gone. Victory!
Now, it is time to celebrate, to feast!
Now, also, it is time to pick up the pieces, to bring home the lost, to
try and repair the shattered dreams.
Newly crowned King Kestor needs you, that our fair country may recover
from the many disasters that have befallen us these last years, and to
ensure that this victory is indeed the beginning of a new dawn.

HomeCon XXIII takes place in the Netherlands starting on Thursday,
Februari 21st, and lasts untill Sunday Februari 24th in Schildwolde and
Delft.
On Thursday and Fridat, we offer reruns of all Y7 regionals,
metaregionals, and even Cores for you to play, while on Friday evening,
SND8-02 Crocodile Tears premieres.
On Saturday, havoc is wrecked by the many terrors faced in the Sunndi
Special Save Our Souls, a 2-round (4 linked minis) scenario that battle
scenario that covers APL2 to 16.
On Sunday, we premiere another regional: SND8-01 Acceptance, the sequel
to ND6-01 Lesser Evil and SND7-06 Disillusion and the conclusion of the
series.

Costs for all this is E10,- a day in Schildwolde, including food, drinks
and munchies, and a place to put your sleeping bag.
In Delft, there are no costs, and you buy your own food at the bar (drop
me a line if you need a place to sleep).

For sign-up, we use the Warhorn site here:
http://www.warhorn.net/HomeConXXIII/

I hope to see you all iat HomeCon!

Hi all,

Right now we are doing the last bits of work on ESA7-05 and ESA7-06.
ESA7-05 shall premier in Scandinavia on Sunday 20st of January and is
available for the public from that date on. ESA7-05 was supposed to be
a Naerie regional, but it is a good introduction to the year 8 trilogy
and I would like to thank the Naerie triad for allowing its adaption.
Wile it still contains a close connection with a Naerie regional
series, we did make it interesting for the rest of European LG gamers.
ESA7-06 is a two rounder and will become available early next week. It
is the last part of the Terrors of the Deep trilogy.

ESA7-05 And all the Prince's Men
by Sampo Haarlaa
Patriotic Knights, a group of Oeridian supremacist and rabble-rousers,
and their allies have suffered blows in the past but are hardly a
spent force. Now, yet more fuel is thrown into the flames that
threaten to tear Naerie City apart. Riots, robbery and revelations,
all within one hectic day in the city. Recommended for well-balanced
parties who have had past dealings and no enmities with the Nasranite
Watch. Closely connected to ESA6-05 Point of View, NAE6-05 Sharafon
and NAE7-03 Incognito and introduction to the year 8 meta-regional
trilogy Trouble Within. A one-round Splintered Suns metaregional set
in Principality of Naerie for Character levels 2-13 (APL 4 to 10).

ESA7-06 Eye of the Tempest
by Mark Somers and Renout van Rijn
For months rumors have said that an evil fleet sails the Solnor Ocean,
preying on ships of all nations and leaving few survivors. The rumors
have now been confirmed, and a storm gathers in the form of an armada
of the undead. Can a band of brave adventurers sail to a mysterious
location and recover a hidden treasure that might avert the coming
tempest? A two-round Nyrond and her Environs/Splintered Suns
meta-region adventure set on the Solnor Ocean for characters level
4-16 (APLs 6-14). Part 3 of Terrors of the Deep [Not for those with a
dislike for the ocean.]

Yours sincerely,

Hi all,

ESA7-04 Head or Tails is finished and it premiers this weekend in
Germany, and next weekend in the Netherlands. It should be available
for the public from the 12 December. For the curious, the remaining
three rounds are in the work as we speak. Hopefully they become
available soon as well.

ESA7-04 Head or Tails
by Pieter Sleijpen

Dawn. Soldiers are staring silently into the twilight, weapons drawn,
and faces grim. The enemy is hidden in shadows. Soon the battle will
be on. Soon the sounds of weapons, the shouts of angry soldiers and
the moans of the wounded will replace the birds greeting Pelor. Will
you be at the battle to aid the good people of Ahlissa and Sunndi? A
one-round metaregional adventure set in Ahlissa for characters level
2-14 (APLs 4-12). It is the fifth part of the Broken Chains series,
direct sequel of ESA6-01 Knife's Edge.

Yours sincerely,

Yes, you can mail scanned versions of ARs. How do you think people playing on-line get their AR? ;) Just send me a private mail with the name of your character and your RPGA number and I will try to get you the new AR.

Hallo zusammen, hi everyone!

german version after the end of the english part of the message...

While Living Greyhawk is slowly coming to an end, we want to start
that final year with a big bang... DreieichCON, November 10th to 11th

rest is provided on site. More information (but I'm afraid in german

More Informations on the adventures and registration:
http://www.warhorn.net/dreieichcon/.

I'm sorry that due to the short running time of the CON we are not
able to give more people the chance to catch every adventure, but we
had high demand for rerunning several mods. Though we provide space
and tables for the Night Slots, we don't organize any GMs for that
tables. So if GMs don't sign up during registration time, it's tough
luck... There are only a view tables "Hosted in English" right now.
If there's enough demand for more tables, we will try to organize
more tables.

----------

Ansichtssache
A Point of View (Hosted in English)

Genauere Informationen zu den Abenteuern und Anmeldung unter:
http://www.warhorn.net/dreieichcon/.

'till we meet in Dreieich... hmm in the Adri!

Hi all,

ESA7-03 The Wake of the Tempest is available for games as of now.
Sorry for the delay folks, but certain anouncements messed up the
schedule. ESA7-03 is the sequel to ESA6-04 Gift of the Tempest. It is
the second part in a trilogy. The third part is likely to be a 2-
rounder and it should premier before the end of the current year. Like
the first part it is a shared adventure with the Nyrond and
Environment meta-regional, you can play only ONE of the versions. Have
fun.

ESA7-03 The Wake of the Tempest
by James Dempsey

The good ship Kalandra lies wrecked, victim to the furious storm that
cast it onto rocky cliffs, its cargo looted and its secrets revealed.
But is that truly the case? What more is to be found in the shattered
belly of the sunken ship? Visionary messages would have it that
mysteries are yet to be found. A one-round Splintered Suns
meta-regional adventure set in Medegia for characters level 1-13 (APLs
2-10). Part 2 of Terrors of the Deep. (Not for those who hear `run
away' in the sea's song.).

Yours sincerely,

Pieter Sleijpen

DrakCon'07
8th and 9th September 2007

Sat. 9.00am - 11.00pm, Sun. 9.00am - 8.00pm

Albyn School, Queens Road, Aberdeen

Adults £5 weekend, £3 day / Under 18's, Students Free

(DrakCon'07 is supported by Aberdeen City Council's Youth Activity
Small Grant budget)

Due to an extension being built at Albyn School that venue was
unavailable and we were unable to find an alternative at our normal
time of year. For this year DrakCon is therefore taking place in
September.
The good news is that thanks to the support of Aberdeen City
Council's Youth Activity Small Grant we have been able to make the
cost of entry to DrakCon the lowest it has been for many years and
indeed free for under 18's, etc.
Some games such as Greyhawk and Arcanis will have a small charge per
game.
More details of the program of Arcanis, Greyhawk, etc. will be
available soon. Anyone wishing to run other events at DrakCon should
contact us ASAP

That example I can agree with, but that was not my understanding of
'luring someone into a crime'. The officers in your example at best
set up the conditions for the crime that would be met at other times
or places anyway, to see whether or not the criminals do commit a
crime in such a situation.

They are not however provoking others into doing sth illegal that
normally they wouldn't do, maybe even by obscuring the fact it would
be illegal in the first place. When you said 'luring into a crime' my
understanding was e. g. of someone who obscured a speed sign with a
potted plant to catch people driving too fast ;) Or a more realistic
example, a doppleganger posing as someone else, sending adventurers to
kill a city official at his home.

Cheers,
Stefan

Ummm, 'luring someone into comitting a crime' would be a rather
chaotic behaviour in my book! Plus, if someone would be caught in
doing such a thing he might very well be regarded as partially guilty
of the lawbreaking! (Ok, not very likely if it's the guards themselves)

Not that Hextorites couldn't be chaotic (as long as they're not
clerics), but I'd be rather surprised if that would be general
behaviour...

Cheers,
Stefan

I always did like Hextorites, they are so much more honest in their oppression
than the worshippers of his evil twin.

Unfriendly. The character would be constantly harrassed by the local guards
(mostly Hextorites) who would try to lure them into attacking the guard or
committing some kind of crime. If arrested treatment would be much harsher,
guilt much easier assumed and punishment more severe. In certain principalities
the reaction would be more neutral, while in others it would be much more
severe. Remember that Ahlissan is a dictatorship (just take a look at the
picture in the Gazetteer) and that by openly proclaiming worship of Trithereon
you are stating you are an anarchist at best, and more likely a rebel.
