Riverton was made generic to allow the adventure to be ran in any number of
places.
Apparently, the real-life "Riverton" is Grayling, Michigan, and the base is
Camp Grayling, the largest military training facility east of the
Mississippi.
The "Imps" (MPs) are likely descended from 46 Military Police Command and
the 177th MP Brigade.
In a game I ran of Riverton, I used versions of real topographical maps:

=DRG&size=l&s=200<http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=44.64426&lon=-84.74514&s=1\
00&size=l&u=4&datum=nad83&layer=DRG>

Compare the shape of the lakes and swamps, where the camp is located, the
position of the Interstate and roads, etc.
Looks familiar?

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate,
contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive and
unrealistic.
