Hello!

I wanted to let you know about Kiva (www.kiva.org), a non-profit that allows you
to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur in the developing
world.

You choose who to lend to - whether a baker in Afghanistan, a goat herder in
Uganda, a farmer in Peru, a restaurateur in Cambodia, or a tailor in Iraq - and
as they repay their loan, you get your money back. It’s a powerful and
sustainable way to empower someone right now to lift themselves out of poverty.

Oisin,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am going to try and get
to one or the other pub soon. I will contact the other
gaming site and the Trinity site and see if there is
anyone willing to help us out.

Thanks again for getting back to us. :)

Mark and Jonesy.

The best thing to do is get in touch with people and keep in touch.  There are a number of gaming clubs about the city, most of which are more than happy to accept new members.  Some of these clubs will have people who will be starting games soon, while others will have existing games that may have spots available.

You should definately go to the merc some nights and get in contact with people directly, join in a few board games or similar and get to know people: people generally are more likely to play an RPG with someone they know.

In addition to the Merc gaming nights, there is a similar games night run in Cassidey's of Westmoreland Street on Thursdays by the IGA.  As this is currently getting started, you'll stand a better chance of finding a new-starting game in there than most other places.

You could also contact the igaming@yahoogroups.com mailing list, as there should be someone there who might be able to help you further.

The various college societies are largely shutting up shop for the summer, but some of them may be able to help you a bit over the summer.  Trinity Gamers maintains a forum over the summer and has limited opening hours.  The members (myself included) still game during the summer and are generally happy to see new people joining up.  If you go on the forum http://societies.csc.tcd.ie/~gamers/forum and ask about new games you should be able to get some help.

Hope that's of help,
Oisín

Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone is still out there reading this.  In short, I won't be turning up with boardgames every week, so if you're planning on turning up to play boardgames, please let me know and I'll bring some along.

The other thing is that I lost a square piece of cardboard from one of my games there yesterday, with a big 'B' on one side.  If anyone found / finds it I'd really appreciate getting it back.

Thanks,
Sorcha

Longstones is the pub where people met up with Adam when he was going away
before we went for food.

Walk East from the screen Cinema and the pub is on the corner at the first
crossroads.

at least we've lost some of the stupid civility and pussy footing to this "discussion".

Caylus is the best boardgamers boardgame in the last 5 years.
And i'm bringing it on Tuesday, I will bring Powergrid the following week.

I am interested in meeting up and playing boardgames on other evenings or even saturday day next week as well.

you are of course correct, that what games i enjoy isn't necessarily
relivant, but if you're talking about games which brian thinks aren't
decent, and i happen to agree with his opinion, then htat is sligthly
relivant, if unimportant to your conversation.

I'll just sit quietly now, because really i'd prefer to have conversations
about what constitutes a good game in person, rather than over the
internet, where you can't see the tone in my voice...

I think you are trying to impune Caylus, with talk of decent in quotes.

Caylus is number 2 on the geek, has no randomness apart from set up and is very elegant game.

I am inclined towards playing a 'decent' boardgame next week, I am inclined towards playing a game with Ben, since he is, as you mentioned, leaving and I am disinclined towards (from?) playing Caylus.

I am inclined towards bring Caylus in.
Ben wants to play that game, and it's his last Tuesday before going back to th states.

Plus Aidan needs caylus pratice.

I don't own a copy but if Brian can be persuaded to bring his copy I'd be up for a game.

my words? that wasn't part of the deal...
it's a game where you control a power company attempting to supply power
to various cities, and expand your network.

i suppose it is kind of a strategy board game, where you compete with
other players on a map, and for purchasing fuels, (coal, oil, uranium, and
rubbish) to provide the best service, and earn cash to expand...

also it is fun. (yes, the most important part of my last playing of it,
was that I enjoyed it immensly)
