Description

Dedicated to GDW's Imperium, in the original and its re-issue by Avalanche Press (AvP), along with the similarly strategic Dark Nebula (which features a variable map and Neutral forces), Double Star (grand-tactical scale, players select forces and strategy to battle across one system, the whole game would fit into one or two Imperium turns), and ship to ship combat such as Mayday with vector-movement or the generic Full Thrust. A recent addition to the Traveller universe has been GURPS -Interstellar Wars, bringing the story of Imperium into the realm of role-playing.

If you're unfamiliar with Imperium then you may want to know that it's a two player science-fiction themed wargame - the Terran Confederation, humans from Earth have begun to explore and colonize other starsystem , but in fact most of the stars in the sky are already occupied or at least claimed by other peoples ruled by the vast and ancient Ziru Sirka (Imperium). The principal practical means of interstellar travel for both sides is via Jump Drive with no more than two parsecs range, a very new discovery for Earth but a very ancient technology for the Imperium. Ships will range in size from small Scouts to immense Battleships, the weapons of the conflict are broadly categorized as Beams and Missiles. Fleets battle to control star-systems, clearing a path for Transports with the ground Troops to conquer worlds. The whole of Earth battles against the might of one rather remote Province of the Imperium, the Governor of that Province must balance concern about these Terran "barbarians" with broader Imperial politics to maintain his all-important Glory.
