Cliff, I would go to Weird Realms where you can find a list of everything
Tekumel and how many at what time.

True to a point as one would naturally want to get out of the way of one's
social superiors if for no other reason than not to be flogged.

Of course the three levels of Sakbe road is the ideal and may not occur
everywhere. The one described in Man of Gold consisting of a wide wooden
platform over the swamps for example, and with the food of the Ssu within pike
range of the platform too.

The Sakbe have three levels based on status. Given it's Tekumel I would suspect
that relative status even within the same level would determine right of way.
After all, taking up most of the room and forcing your social inferiors to wait
by the side would demonstrate who's who visually and convincingly.

Here are the final instructions sent re. the civilians:

"Figures 10 & 11 - one from each blank, I think. In a simple harness, with
perhaps a pouch. Open hands. These are meant as generic Shen civilians.
Make one into a merchant – give him a staff assorted round globes/flasks/bundles
depending from it. More can be on his crossbelt. Give him another pouch also
slung across his shoulder and a money pouch for his belt. Imagine a spice
seller, a dealer in gem stones, or some such.
The second can be standing at ease – open hands – provide knobkerrie.
Figure 12 is to be based on a description from the Shen army book which
describes an official in a feathered cloak. Basically another civilian type
wearing a long cloak of feathers.
Figures 13 & 14 - one from each blank, Additional civilians without harness.
One can be at ease as per the one described above (see 10/11), the other at ease
but holding staff in left hand."

Howard - The Tekumel Project

PS. pics of the blanks are probably in the photos section. IIRC.

That is what I meant - what side do they "drive on".

Aren't all those cultures just following the British?

Somebody told me that the British drive on the left from the old custom of
presenting your sword arm to whomever you meet - though it occurs to me it also
means your shield is facing the sides of the road.

What side did the Romans march on?

Hi Guys,

For those that do not know, Wargames Factory makes digitally sculpted
hard-plastic 28mm figures. The initial releases were so-so qualitywise, but
recent releases have improved dramatically.

They have a "Liberty & Union League" which works like Eureka's 100 club - when
500 sprues have been pre-ordered they start a design, when the level reaches
1000 they ask people to commit a $1 per sprue ordered and start the
manufacturing process. (Final price $4-8 - but will be determined before the
final commitment has to be made.)

I just put large Pre-orders in for the following suggestions as they appear to
have Tekumel uses. Note that I did not make the suggestions - the first is
obviously for Mordhiem, the latter I would guess Wargods of Aegyptus.

Fantasy Amazon Infantry

http://www.wargamesfactory.com/BookingRetrieve.aspx?ID=43520

SIZE/SCALE: 28mm

SET DESCRIPTION: Female infantry with a Mayan or Aztec influence. Models should
be able to be configured with spears, sword and shield, and possibly with dual
swords. Need some kind of option for Standard Bearer, Musician and Champion.

and

Ancient Atlanteans

http://www.wargamesfactory.com/BookingRetrieve.aspx?ID=43012

SIZE/SCALE: 28 mm

SET DESCRIPTION: Fantasy human soldiers with a heavy Ancient / Bronze Age high
civilization feel. I propose a visual style that combines ancient Greek and Inca
influences. Figures would have shields, spears, helmets and either breastplates
or scalemail cuirasses over simple tunics. Possibly also greaves and vambraces.
At least 5 multipart figures per sprue, with optional pieces for assembling a
command group.

In their forums, somebody suggested the latter sprue include a female warrior,
which I think would be a good idea.

I have also put in a suggestion for "Atlantean Slaves and Porters", male and
female, who would have an Aztec/Mayan/Incan flavour. It would include left and
right arms for Palanquin bearers.
This suggestion hasn't been posted yet…

Me ordering 500 (or even 1000 sprues) isn't enough.
They want at least 100 individuals to indicate an interest and order at least
one sprue each. That is an initial commitment of $1 with an ultimate cost of
around $4-8 per sprue. Are there enough Tekumel miniature gamers to do that? Of
course, once in production you can order as you please.

Quote:
"Remember, of course, that we need 100 individuals to sign up, not just 1000
total sprues. That's because we need to know that there's a significant audience
for what we make rather than, say a mad millionaire who orders 1000 of
something."

Regards,

Howard – The Tekumel Project

What should a shen be doing?

Threatening to bite the head off of something in his empty hand.

Gesturing fiercely.

Our sculptor has started work on the Shen at long last. I have asked for
four "civilians" - two with belt and cross-strap, and two without. I asked
that one have a staff. Today he asked about poses: "what do you want them to
be doing?"

Any ideas or suggestions? Any preferences?

There will also be a "diplomat" in a feathered robe as per the Splendor of
Shenyu article.

Pass on right or left? Or both/neither?

I can't remember if this has ever been covered.

I was just sympathizing, Mark - I'm actually all for simplicity, my own
system has very few rules at all. And Jeff Dee is, after all, the creator
of TWERPS and Pocket Universe, so I know he eres on the side of the simple
as well.
