Look at the original EPT map (circa 1975) and you will see that the Heights are
within the border of the Tsolyani Imperium.

Hi, everybody!
I'm running a game set in Chene Ho in early 2352. I wondered if anyone
had any insight into a few "real Tekumel" questions I'm having trouble with..
1) To whom did the Atkolel Heights belong *before* 2353 AS? It seems like
most material refers to them as being "lost" to the Yan Koryani at that
time, but the official declaration of war wasn't until 2356. I'm confused.
The border, more to the point, is unclear on several maps. Were the Heights
actually part of Tsolyanu, or legally part of Pijena but defended by
Tsolyani troops, or...?
2) Anyone remember what happened to make the Empire think that General
Kettukal was disloyal? The original EPT books mentions that it was some sort
of intrigue by the Royalists to make the Empire believe he wanted to become
ruler of the Chakas....
3) Anyone have any insight into why the Empire never did anything about
Princess Ma'in's lobotomy/conversion ? A "Dispatches to the Imperium" article
makes it clear that some sort of sorcery was suspected, and that the Emperor
commanded an investigation into possible sorcery, but we all know that she's
remained happily debauched for the rest of her (known) life. Princess Ma'in
"the Chaste" is a notable NPC in my game; she's a scholarly, studious young
woman of 18 who is popular with the temples of Avanthe, Thumis, and
Belkhanu.... (I made up her personality decades ago, before I had
information which suggested that she was rather spoiled and selfish even
*before* her conversion, and figured that the "Eye" must have "inverted" her
personality. ...)
Last, General Kettukal is a major character, as a result. Our game's wiki
has some background on "the General," as he is always named, and I thought I
might share it with you. It's mostly recycled Chuck Norris humor, but I
thought it might make you smile.*
General Kettukal hiMraktine*, Hero of the Empire, the go-to man when you
need a war won. A scion of the Sea Blue clan of Chene Ho, he has close ties
with Prince Eselne. He *IS* the Military Party. Some Facts About General
Kettukal:
General Kettukal does not go hunting; "hunting" implies the possibility of
failure. He goes *killing*.
He has never cast a psychic spell, because his enormous brass balls weigh *much
more* than 60 grammes.
His tears can cure the Ailment of Arkhuan Mssa--too bad he has never cried.
*Do not make him get up out of this chair.*
He is happily married to Princess Sionu vuMakkochaqu of Vra. This would make
*anyone else* even more noble, but has no noticeable effect upon him.
When Chakans burn incense to Lord Karakan, God of Glorious War, it is
Kettukal's image before which they light it.
He is *unavailable for comment*.
Kettukal doesn't sleep... he waits.
Kettukal has a deep and abiding respect for human life... unless it gets in
his way.
Kettukal puts the *laughter* in manslaughter.
*Kettukal is played by actor Chow Yun Fat, which should tell you something,
and he is voiced by actor Sean Connery, which should tell you something
else. (Note: we use photographs taken from the 'net to suggest the
appearance of notable NPC's, and when I voice a given NPC, I do a, usually
identifiable if not actually good, imitation of a particular accent.
Kettukal's photo is of Chow Yun Fat from the recent remake of "The King and
I.")
