I was surprised at how many people were willing to do a Babylon 5 CCG demo at
9AM. Doomtown appeared to do really well. The V:TES tournament had 8. Two
people tied for first. The CCG room seemed reasonably active. The boardgame
room was busy. Open gaming could have been closer to the action.

No, you're thinking of GameCon II. Manafest was in the South San Fransisco
Conference Center, July 9th to 11th, this year.

Yup, I played in that tournament as well. Enthusiastic but disappointingly
small. Talking to some of the people who've been around here playing V:tES
in tournaments, they usually expect more players.

I never noticed the pickup Jyhad games. But then, I never thought to look
for them.

My husband and I are new to all this, so I cant quite remember the name of
the convention we went to, I believe it was Manafest if that was the one in
Oakland a couple months ago. That was his first time in a Jyhad/V:TES
tournament and there were about 8 people total. From what I heard, there was
another Magic event that conflicted that day so nothing really happened there
with Magic, which I heard was good so that there was lots more room for
everything else. Of course, throughtout the weekend when we walked around
the hotel, there were tables everywhere and we saw many groups in their own
Jyhad games we wanted to join in on. We were kinda disappointed in the low
amount of various dealers there and other events as we did expect a bit more
for the cost, but it was alright.

Did anyone going to Manafest have any comments on it or tournament or gaming
experiences to report from it?

Was there a V:tES tournament? Decent Magic tournies?

It was the first year I've ever had to miss it, so I was a little bummed.

[My apologies in advance to those who get multiple copies of this--DRK]

-----

Bay Area Games Day is a quarterly series of daylong open gaming sessions
held in the San Francisco Bay Area. We play all sorts of strategy games:
abstract boardgames, German games, wargames, and collectible and
non-collectible cardgames. The seventh edition of Games Day will be at the
Los Altos Public Library on Saturday, July 31, from 10 AM to 11 PM.

Gaming will be in the library's Community Room, which is just off the lobby
in the southeast corner of the building. Entry is free, but a small ($1)
donation to the library will be appreciated.

The library is in the Civic Center complex at 13 S. San Antonio Road (east
side of the road), just south of the intersection of San Antonio and Edith.
The library is located within walking distance of downtown Los Altos and
within a short drive of El Camino.

There is a Web page for Games Day at

	 http://www.io.com/~dk2/gamesday

For further information, contact Rick Heli (e-mail: heli@...) or Dave
Kohr (e-mail: kohr@...). (Dave is helping organize this Games Day but
can't actually attend it, so Rick will be the one who runs it.) There is a
mailing list for announcements related to Games Day and for planning what
to play, contact Dave if you want to get on this list.

Games Day has been held every 3-4 months since late 1997. Average
attendance has risen to about 40-50 people, and many different games of all
sorts get played. With your participation, we can make Games Day VII the
best ever!

In reply to your game inquiry,

I know of, and play in, a couple different places in the Sunnyvale area
on a semi-regular basis. Typically on every other Thursday night we
have a group that gets together to play 6:30pm near Montague Expressway
and Zanker. Then on Friday, though a lot less regularly, a game is
played that is near 101 and Mathilda at 7pm. I would be happy to host a
game, or come to a game in the Fremont/Hayward area on a regular basis
assuming we got at least 4+ on a regular basis. I prefer at least 5 but
will play with 4. You and your husband would make three of us in the
Fremont/Hayward area. All we need is a few more regular/semiregular
players to have at least 4 on a regular basis.

to be stalled at three. We'll be playing in Mountain View around 7ish.

We just lost our pizza night at Aldo's. We found out they do not consider us
regular customer after one and a half years. We have been highly successful
filling the pizza parlor even during the slow months and with summer
approaching we would have double the number of people coming since 'school is
out'. A few months ago they have been become more hostile with the owners
wanting Lisa and I to bus tables and telling us we needed to help them clean
up. We always put all the tables and chairs back, picked up the big garbage
etc... They were going to ban us from ordering sandwiches saying it was more
work than a pizza and they wanted me to start throwing out people whenever
anyone walked off the street and they needed a table. We had to make room for
anyone walking in, even though we paid our money and bought food. There was
no budging on this policy of theirs. So if a softball team of 20 walked in,
we had to start throwing out people. (which would happen with summer
approaching) This happen two weeks ago when there were absolutely no chairs &
some parents were standing already and a family of five walked in and they
were friends with the owners. They told me to throw out all the vampire
players for the night. I wouldn't... and we clashed. Gator Games feels just
like the gamers, we have a right to be there and we paid our money. They
can't have it both ways. So we canceled the night and we are looking for a
new place. We've check out a few places where we were invited first, but they
were too small. So Lisa and I will keep looking on our day off. We do want
to find a place semi close to the store. We should find a place within a few
weeks that wants our business. His sister told me that they make $600 from us
on slow nights, its their loss.

We do have a weekly newsletter that says ours events, all the new game &
anime stuff out for the week and I been posting poke'mon updates in it. I get
press releases & retailer news so I put them in the (e-mail me list) and
thats all you have to do to get the ones you want. All you do is have to say
you want the newsletter.

Certainly a reasonable enough question.

I'm not totally sure what you're looking for, however. "Newsgroup"
suggests Usenet newsgroup and, alas, there are none that I know of for
CCG gaming specifically in Silicon Valley. The closest thing is this list,
which is why I created it. The general purpose newsgroups for CCG gaming
are in the rec.games.trading-card heirarchy.

There is no newsletter, either, to my knowledge - either snail mail or
E-mail. There is one shop, Gator Games, which puts out a weekly list of
stuff they're involved in but if you know about Aldo's Pizza night I
expect you already knew about GG's newsletter. For those who don't, you
can E-mail gatorgames@... and ask them to add your E-mail address to
their list.

If you were looking for something else I haven't addressed, let me know.

Hello! I hope I'm not violating any rules by posting here, but I just had a
quick question.

With summer approaching, I'm looking for a newsgroup or newsletter of some sort
related to Silicon Valley card gaming. If anybody knows of such a group for
Star Trek, Star Wars, and/or Pokemon, it would help me out A LOT. Thank you for
your time.

- Pogo of Go

(Also, I offer a morn of loss for Aldo's Pizza Night; I only went twice, and I
thought summer was going to be my big chance to play a little more. Hopefully,
Gator will find a replacement soon, as they did prior to Aldo's.)

I live in Redwood City - as an alternative to Aldo's, I would be
happy to host on Tuesday if there is interest for everyone to
come. Gene & Kevin were interested in army construction.
The door will be open - email me if you need directions.

Jean - if you would like to post a copy at the store, please do.
We chatted last wednesday that you had some interested players.

As the summer approaches, even a weekend Dragon Dice BBQ
sounds like fun and we'll all have time for more than a one game.

I will be running a Standard 36pt Constructed Tournament

Does anyone know about any Jyhad tournaments happening at BayCon?

Is anyone one going to be there playing anyway?

I will be there with Jyhad, Battletech and Magic.

At the moment, no CCGs are planned, because nobody has planned any. I'd
like to play some Shadowfist, myself. And either 2 player or multiplayer
is fine.

Here's the Games Day announcement. If you want to plan specific games, I
recommend joining the Games Day mailing list.

-----

Subject: [GAMESDAY] Bay Area Games Day VI will be Sun. May 2 in Los Altos

Bay Area Games Day is a quarterly series of daylong open gaming sessions
held in the San Francisco Bay Area. We play all sorts of strategy games:
abstract boardgames, German games, wargames, and collectible and
non-collectible cardgames. The sixth edition of Games Day will be at the
Los Altos Public Library on Sunday, May 2, from noon to 11 PM.

Gaming will be in the library's Community Room, which is just off the lobby
in the southeast corner of the building. Entry is free, but a small ($1)
donation to the library will be appreciated. In addition, your humble
organizer (i.e. Dave Kohr) will bring soda and has to pay a $10 fee to
reserve the room, so he'll gladly accept small contributions toward those
expenses.

The library is in the Civic Center complex at 13 S. San Antonio Road (east
side of the road), just south of the intersection of San Antonio and Edith.
The library is located within walking distance of downtown Los Altos and
within a short drive of El Camino, so there are lots of places to get
dinner.

There is a Web page for Games Day at

	 http://www.io.com/~dk2/gamesday

For further information, contact Dave Kohr (e-mail: kohr@..., daytime
phone (650)933-8694, night/weekend phone (650)428-1398). There is a
mailing list for announcements related to Games Day and for planning what
to play, contact Dave if you want to get on this list.

Games Day has been held every 3-4 months since late 1997. Average
attendance has risen to about 40-50 people, and many different games of all
sorts get played. With your participation, we can make Games Day VI the
best ever!

Due to popular demand, the next Games Day will be held on a Sat.
Unfortunately I had to schedule Games Day VI on short notice and was only
able to get the room on a Sun.

Last time Tony and some other players and I played some Jyhad.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can make it this time but
perhaps some of the same folks will show up with cards again.

I believe so, yes.

This is exactly the sort of thing I should be using to get word out, and I
haven't been taking advantage of it.

Along with a couple of others in the area, I run Babylon 5 CCG events. We
get prize support for demos and tournaments from the publisher. We have a
rather elaborate tournament/demo infrastructure. We also don't catch
everyone who may be interested in learning the game.

Regular play:  at Neutral Ground, Wednesday nights and even Tuesday nights;
PJ's in Concord, ask for details.

Demos, not including regular play: check
http://www.geocities.com/~vorlon-space.

Upcoming demos: GameCon II, TBD; ManaFest, 3PM Friday, 9AM Saturday and
Sunday.

Upcoming tournaments: April 17, Epic Worlds in Castro Valley, 12PM, cards
available for borrow, social; GameCon II, Sunday, constructed; ManaFest, 11AM
Saturday (social), 11AM Sunday (constructed).

Lists: local list - bay-area-b5ccg@onelist.com; official Players' List -

I should be able to answer any questions.

Hello everybody!

People looking for fun and to meet new and old friends alike, and to play
head-to-head and multiplayer strategy games might want to come to...

                              Celebrate History!
                               9-11 April 1999
                       http://www.celebratehistory.org

This is our second annual event, and it promises to be a killer convention.
We promise to bring you "all eras, all interests, all together!"
It's in just a week.

We'll have both miniatures and board game programs. Decision Games, GMT,
Pacific Rim, Green Knight Publishing, Scenic Effects and other game companies
will have product demonstrations, tournaments with prizes, and so on.

The game schedule also has a lot of ready-to-play miniatures events (we
provide the GMs, and they provide painted miniatures, teach the rules, etc.)
There will be game tables for board gamers to "Pick and Play" from a
collection of games we'll have available, and you are free to bring your own.

The Celebrate History program is here:

    http://www.celebratehistory.org/1999/program/

And the Gaming Events program can be found at the bottom of that menu.
As well, there will be presentations by both military and civilian
Living History groups -- from Romans to Johnny Rebs to G.I.s -- as
well as speakers, authors, and VIP "eyewitnesses to history": World War II
fighter aces, bomber crews, submarine commanders, USMC veterans from Korea,
and so on.

There are two things we are trying to do with "Celebrate History" -- first,
to have a delightful show for people who are "already into it" -- those
who love historical games, seminars, books, living history, music and dance,
costuming, etc. Secondly, we want to use the show to "recruit" more folks
into these areas of interest! This is the "show to grow".

If you want to, we'd love to have people who like to teach and demonstrate,
to get people who would otherwise never play to sit down and try a game.
As well, if someone dropped by -- say, a kid who seems interested but
rather shy -- perhaps you could take time to explain what gaming is, how
it works, how to get started, etc?

As a professional game designer and publisher, I'd love for you all to come
down and enjoy our weekend's program, and to also challenge you to get your
friends and family to also attend! ;-)

We are asking everybody to go with the "theme" of the show: HISTORY!
Railroad games are perfect, Axis & Allies, historical strategy games, etc.
We're just trying to avoid "fictional" genres like horror, fantasy & science
fiction. (e.g.: Egyptians are great, Klingons are not.)

We've done our best to make this a top-flight premiere show, right in your
back yard. Historical organizations, from the USS Hornet Museum, to the
Friends of the Fighter Aces, the Great War Society, the Art Deco Society,
the National Civil War Association, and all the way back to Legio X Fretensis
and Nova Roma will be at the show... How can you miss this?

For those people who have never been able to get "significant others" to attend
traditional "hobby" shows, this is definitely the place for couples and
families. We'll have a "Shore Leave in San Francisco" swing dance on Friday,
a "Blue & Grey and Gold Rush Ball" of Victorian Era music on Saturday, and
so on. There'll be fashion shows, women's history, a dealer room with dozens
of vendors and so on. My *mom* came out last year, and (literally) had a ball!

First time she ever came to a "gaming" convention. And that was because
it had so much more than traditional shows. We made "history"!

Admission to Celebrate History 1999 is $20 per day, or $50 for the weekend.
This includes access to all gaming, seminar, and living history events except
for banquets and receptions and dance events (which are reasonably priced
extra).

Oh, did I mention? Kids 12 and under are free, and 13-18 years old are $5 off.
Please bring your kids, and your friend's kids. Start 'em while they're young!

Full pricing and registration details are here:

Tickets can be bought online at ticketweb.com, or through City Box Office.

I mentioned registering your e-mail address on the web (www.egroups.com)
in my previous mail.

There's a hitch that keeps confusing people. When you first go to that
page, you get the login form. If you've never logged in before, you
wouldn't know what password to use. The answer is: don't use this page.

Click on the link to "New users: Register for a FREE egroups.com account."
(The link is the blue 'Register' word.) This will take you to another page
where you begin the registration procedure, including the selection of your
password.

I was wrong about members being unable to subscribe to the new svccg list
in digest mode. You can subscribe in regular mode (as everyone is now
except for Andrew Hart and my Cisco E-mail account), full text digest mode,
some sort of "daily summary mode" (I don't know what it means...), or read
via the web only.

You have to go register your E-mail address on egroups, including giving
yourself a password. Once you do, the web page should indicate you're
already subscribed to 'svccg'. (If it doesn't, contact me and let me know
what e-mail address you registered yourself as - chances are, I added you
under a slightly different address, somehow.) Under the "mode" column, it
will say "E-mail" in blue, which is a link - click on it. This will take
you to a display which will allow you to edit your 'svccg' subscription.
Next to 'Read mode', it will say 'Receive individual e-mails', and there
will be a little box. Click on the little box and a select menu will come
up and allow you to change to 'Receive daily summaries', 'Receive daily full
text digest', and 'Read it on the web'. Choose your poison, click on the
'Apply Changes' box at the bottom, and you're there.

If anyone has any troubles with it, drop me a line.

It looks like things will be getting started about 6pm.

I have a rough idea of who's coming, but also will
extend an invitation out to everyone on the
SVCCG@Egroups.com mailing list
(fomerly SiliconValleyCCG@Onelist.com).

Please send a reply with 'Head Count' so I have enough
tables setup ready for everyone. I expect Brad & Eric
from SF. Ian Lee and Myself so far. Fred Scott already
replied that he'd be out of town.

My address is 1602 Silver Avenue - Redwood City.
From either 101 or 280 take Woodside Road to Valota.
Down Valota 1/2 mile. On right is Silver. If you make
it to the Stop sign at Redwood Avenue, you've past it.

On the right, the last Duplex before the street bends left.
There should be plenty of parking.

Front door is through the gate on the left of 1604's Garage.

I'm not sure what you mean by salvage rights but the SiliconValleyCCG

should being using svccg@egroups.com beginning now. I have changed the
