The intention was that this be a regional list for discussing CCGs played
in the San Francisco Bay area.

Basically, a tool to find other players of a game you are already interested
in.  The problem is that if people are already on this list, they probably
have an idea how to find other players of particular CCGs.  There are player
directories for particular games on company web sites.  There are, as you
said, lists or newsgroups dedicated to particular games where players ask
questions like "are there any players in the __ area?".

For whom is this list not redundant?  I tried posting events for a couple
different CCGs.  I gave up when it didn't seem to make any difference.  Would
need to have a lot more members, I think, to have this work well.  Would also
help if the cons posted their CCG schedules, stores posted their various CCG
play nights, and the like.

Perhaps. But I thought this would be a good list
to be specifically devoted to that subject for the
SF area. A specific "meeting point" so to speak,
between those who advertise events (e.g. conventions
and people like you and Brad who organize tournaments
or who sponsor game nights) and those who would be
interested in finding out about them. VtES in the
area has a specific list dedicated to it (your's)
which advertises such things. Not all CCGs have such
a list and even for those that do, a more generalized
list (that is, a list common to all CCGs) might serve
as a rendezvous point to find lists like sfbayarea_vtes.

Given the traffic on the list, it may not be succeeding
in this capacity, in part because I haven't been
promoting it lately and in part because I've utterly
failed to get the word out to convention organizers
and the like. If so, perhaps mark it down as a valiant
effort that failed.

Agreed, on both counts. At the moment, I feel helpless
to fix either problem. I could start advertising the
existence of the list in the same places I used to (V:tES
mailing lists and r.g.t-c.jyhad) and that will probably
help shore up membership a bit. But I doubt it will get
it increase it by an order of magnitude. I tried writing
the convention organizers using mailtos in their web pages
and didn't have much success. Any ideas?

Stuff like this is discouraged but not by any means banned. Such discussion
could theoretically lead to people finding opponents and groups that play their
favorite CCG or a CCG they want to try, which is what the list is for. In
general, however, this kind of discussion can be had in more general lists and
newsgroups so if you're really just interested in discussing CCGs in general,
you should be able to find that elsewhere.

Yes, these are very appropriate.

The Jyhad tournaments you guys are holding should have been announced here.
(Frankly, I wasn't thinking about it at the time.)

So, what topics should there be?

Favorite CCGs?

Old CCGs worth looking at because they cost next to nothing?

Commenting on Scrye's 50 most popular CCGs?

Commenting on the state of CCGs in the local area?

Noting which CCGs have events at upcoming cons?

Seems like we never found out what members were interested in talking about.

Gaming will be in the library's Community Room, which is just off the lobby
in the southeast corner of the building. Entry is free, but a small ($1)
donation to the library will be appreciated.

Latest news on the White Wolf V:tES promo card is to look for it in

All of this is subject to change, of course.

I'm not sure what these are but they seem to have nothing to do with
collectable card gaming. Please do *not* repeat the excercise. I
don't know where you got the impression that svccg was some sort of
"open events list" but is not.

And hundreds of lines of list is rather excessive for a test posting.
If you have questions about what a list is for, there are ways to find
out on the egroups web page, or E-mail to ask the owner, or at the
very least, post a *small* inquiry to the list and ask. Your policy
of shotgunning your huge post out to multiple lists (and I notice mine
wasn't the only one) without doing the first bit of relevent research or
inquiry is not appreciated.

Actually very last minute if I go - flaked on DundraCon last month since none
of the events were worth the last minute trip 'cept Brad's Jyhad/VTes
tournament.

FWIW - Pizza & Pipes also has a store in Santa Clara someplace,
might be able to arrange something your ways if needed - but read on.

There are a few BayArea gamer lists setup on Egroups (formely Onelist).
None are specific to DDicer's, but if we need to get the word out, I'll CC
them.
Also encourage both of you to check them out. Think Dave is on a couple
already.
We have VTes, SVB (Board Gamers) and a couple of general CCG's

[Fred originally started SVCCG on Onelist, then he moved it to Egroups - go
figure they merged.]

Last year I ran my RPG Campaign game on Sunday
at Manafest - ended up selling a case of starters too.
It's not the type of format for teaching Richard, but then
it's a format he can participate enough to enjoy the game.
Lessons are easily given anytime - even online!

My interest is passive, but I'm sure motivation could occur also.
I suppose your group will be heading down for minatures, so it's
maybe just a matter of working around schedules. Donna has
been a trooper and we could see if any rooms are available.

Hello! You've discovered a great game with (unfortunately) a small player
base. I used to run demos and tournaments at local conventions and game
shops, but got a bit burnt out after a few years. now I concentrate more on
the "larger" gaming community (online and at GenCon in August). I used to
run monthly Dragon Dice nights at Neutral Ground in Mountain View, but that
died out due to low attendance (and the advent of Pokemon).

My recent distraction has been Everquest - Sony/989 studios Muliplayer AD&D

I've wondered Dave - I'm easily found, but have nearly abandoned all my CCG's.
Monday is the night for dice at home online.

We might be able to do a Pizza & Pipes Tuesday gathering up here in RWC too.

Tuesdays are better than Monday obviously.
Not what you think - Wrestling is on TNT & USA <g>

I'm always happy to host here in Redwood City, kinda a clubhouse setup.
Girlfriend prefers to have at least a weeks notice, but I've suprised her with

discuss discount lunch options further on in Berkeley, or other
adventures. Expect both novices and experienced skyspinners. Late
arrivals can try to locate organizer on the Green by seeking Eros'

I played in the tounament a while back, and got some of the pre-release
classic cards.

They did not impress me as powerful or must have, so I think only hard-core
fans of Netrunner would care for them.

I suspect the same will be true with the Classic verion of Vampire, but we
will see. The things I'm about to write to the new brand manager about
would be the following:

1) a new rulebook incorporating the latest changes in the game
2) if more vampires are to be printed in the classic set, let them NOT be
the seven classic vampire clans, we need more of the Independent and Sabbat.
3) I think some players would be happy with re-printed cards that have been
radically changed (ala Fame and Sleeping Mind) then generic new cards.

a "classic" 52 card expansion for that game. Neutral Ground is stocking

Dear Gator Games Customers,

The store was hit by Vandalism Sunday Night, Jan 31. The store is closed.

Some people decided to empty several fire extinguisers in through the store's
mailslot. The chemical cleanup is the problem since it is hazardous in this
quantity and it's everywhere. It's like fine face powder, it's hard to breath
in the store. It needs special cleanup crews and equipment. Much of the store
merchandise is ruined. As of today, we have no idea when we will re-open. We
will be closed at least one week to two weeks and possibly more. Our
estimated loss is probably over $40,000 plus cleaning costs of the
specialists. We will know more as we meet with claim people and special
cleanup companies this week and some of the cleanup started. The store phone
has voice mail. We are still getting voice mail at least once a day though we
can't help anyone right now in this position. We will notify you when the
store is ready to open again for business.

There is a large reward for information leading to the conviction of those
indiviuals involved.

Subject: [GAMESDAY] Bay Area Games Day IX will be Sat. Jan. 22 in Los Altos

SPECIAL EVENTS:

This time around, Games Day will feature several special events. There will
be tournaments, with prizes in the form of merchandise certificates for
online gaming store Boulder Games. (Many thanks to Jim at Boulder for
supplying these prizes!) Check out the Web page (below) for details.

Also, Ian will be running demos of the Tomb Raider CCG starting at noon.

WHAT IS GAMES DAY:

Bay Area Games Day is a quarterly series of daylong open gaming sessions
held in the San Francisco Bay Area. We play all sorts of strategy games:
abstract boardgames, German games, wargames, and collectible and
non-collectible cardgames. The ninth edition of Games Day will be at the
Los Altos Public Library on Saturday, January 22, from 10 AM to 11 PM.

LOCATION:

Gaming will be in the library's Community Room, which is just off the lobby
in the southeast corner of the building. Entry is free, but a small ($1)
donation to the library will be appreciated. In addition, your humble
organizer (i.e. Dave Kohr) will bring drinks and has to pay a $10 fee to
reserve the room, so he'll gladly accept small contributions toward those
expenses. And contributions to others who bring and share food is also
nice.

The library is in the Civic Center complex at 13 S. San Antonio Road (east
side of the road), just south of the intersection of San Antonio and Edith.
The library is located within walking distance of downtown Los Altos and
within a short drive of El Camino, so there are lots of nearby restaurants.

Scenario Game and Hobby Shoppe, which had recently relocated from
Farwell Dr. to larger facilities on Fremont Blvd. and Thornton Ave., is
being threatened with closure by the City of Fremont. The City wants
to turn over the land to a developer, who will raze the entire block
and build a new shopping center.

The store owners (for over 20 years) have put a petition in their store
for people to sign. If you are in the area, please stop by and sign
their petition.

We're planning Jyhad/V:tES again at Gamesday!

And this time, by gosh, WE'RE GONNA FIND EACH OTHER!!!

I'll stick a signup sheet near the front table or write something on the
white board or something. Until we've actually started a game and then
you can just look for the guys playing the game.

Questions, e-mail me.
