Can Stiletto Darts be used with Bristle Board dart boards?
I've used Stiletto Darts & other soft tipped darts with a Bristle
Board before, although I was not certain that the bristle boards were
designed with soft tipped darts in mind.
The things I like about the bristle board are:
1) They are much more quite than plastic/electronic boards.
2) They hold up well to any abuse from under or over rotated darts.
The bad thing I've seen with the bristle board is that I get more
bounce outs near the center ring on cheaper bristle boards.
I have see conflicting information on internet sites whether or not
bristle boards are intended to be used with both soft and steel
tipped darts, so I decided to get an answer right from the horses
mouth.
I wrote to Winmau Dartboard Co to ask what their stance was on this.
The following was the response I got:
Thank you for your recent query. The soft tip darts you are
referring to are not made to be used regularly in a bristle
dartboard, the plastic tipped darts are designed to be used in an
electronic soft tip board. The bristle board can be too tough for
the plastic tips and cause them to snap.
Now, I can't say that I noticed the issue with the tips snapping, but
I guess their stance is that they don't recommend using the soft tips
on their boards (although that won't necessarily stop me).
If someone wants to use a bristle board with their Stiletto Darts,
and would prefer not to use the plastic tips, 2BA conversion points
are readily available in many dart stores that will thread into the
Stiletto Dart and basically convert them to steel tipped darts.
