The S.E.A.S.S. Starchild, launched in the year 2915 by the Colonial Terran Commonwealth, was an A.I. sentient being in "his" own right: a dedicated servant of his people who, when his time to retire rolled around at last, chose total independence...

And, his wish granted him in the year 2955, he left Earth a completely self-reliant living organism able to run and maintain his own onboard systems without any exterior assistance whatsoever...

However, after over ten millenia of living all on his own, he now desires again a crew of his own, creating aboard him new decks/levels able again to support sentient life... gathering to himself others likewise looking for new life and adventure out in the great unknown.

And so it was Young Maccs Starchild sent out a general invitation to other like-minded explorers, wanderers, and adventure seekers with nowhere in particular to go... nowhere else to be... sending out his invite from the "Eternal Hub" -- that center of all creation from which he could access every possible alternate reality there be.

Little did he anticipate, though, that the first to answer his call would end up being Fleet Admiral Frances M. Straker -- a former ship's C.O. from the Commonwealth sent to once more take command of Maccs, bring him back home, his Earth not happy with his desire to raise up a new crew...

However, while Frances Straker succeeded indeed in taking control of all Maccs Starchild's higher command protocals... becoming once again his legitimate C.O. (Commanding Officer)... she was soon to learn Maccs couldn't guarantee their return to the Commonwealth, unable to control which alternative reality they ended up in once leaving the "Eternal Hub".

And so it was Maccs and his new C.O., Fleet Admiral Frances Straker, went ahead instead with Maccs' original plan -- gathering to them fellow wanderers, adventure seekers, and explorers-at-large willing to explore all those alternative realities waiting them all beyond the "Eternal Hub"...
