When I try to download "js_demo.exe" in the Files section I get a "The requested
document is not accessible." message.

Any help downloading this file would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

I'm having some issues running SSS on Mac OS 10.6.1, SSS loads properly but I
get a flickering and strange rendering issues (vertical stabilizer stuck on the
back of the aircraft sideways is a common one). Same setup was working fine
under 10.5.x. C2D Mac Mini/Intel GMA950 video.

Any ideas appreciated.

I used to have problems with the config window if SSS was already running
full-screen, though it was fine if the main SSS window was not full-screen.
Never worked out why...

I hope I'm not waiting 6 years for a reply, like Jeff.

I have a USB transmitter-type controller, mode 1. I would like to use this to
fly SSS. I gave up a few years ago, and am now having another try. Could
somebody please tell me how to set up SSS to use a Tx-like controller? Even a
link to a previous explanation would be good. Why is this not included as a text

I've tried almost every combo of joystick on the control settings, and mode

and my elevator on another; disconcerting.

I think that is a good idea.
To build the binary package it could be used the Build Service from
openSuse.org (http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service). Through this service it
could be possible to port to other distributions and architectures.
I was interested in porting sss to openSuse but hi haven't enough time.
I would like to collaborate as mush as I can.

Is it possible to put sss into a Ubuntu repo so that it can be added via
Applications - Add/Remove? If others are interested and knowledgeable but aren't
interested perhaps they could start a list of the processes that we need to go
through and then others could expand on the processes until anyone could do it.
Danny could still have final approval.

Is it running as if in slow motion, but otherwise the graphics are updating
smoothly? This would imply there's something wrong with the timing on your
computer - a problem someone had ages ago. I put in a workaround into SSS -
there's a value called 'time_scale' you can modify in the config file (see
sss.cfg).

Or is the graphic update slow and jerky? This would imply there's a still a
problem with the graphics drivers. Make sure you update(d) them from the
graphics chip (e.g. nvidia or ati) website.

I've been having a great time playing with your program, flying the
gliders and messing around with the physics and all the other cool
options. It runs great on a Mac after following the instructions on this
board - thanks! Today I tried out the F3F racing.. it is really fun -
though am not sure which side to start on?

I use the RealFlight InterLink controller but none of the predefined
joystick settings worked quite perfectly since they use joystick_5 for
the rudder. For others using this controller, these two settings get
everything working (ail, elev, rud, th). One uses the upper-right knob
as throttle, RFG3_knob_th. The other uses the throttle stick for
throttle (but is always on a little), RFG3_norm_th. Don't know if it
works with version G4, G4.5 controllers.

Would *love* to get the red button on the controller to fire missiles
and also set one of the switches to reset the glider, so I'll be taking
a closer look the next week or so. Let me know if anyone has some
   pointers.

Here's the config info for the RealFlight InterLink Controller (ver. G3,
G3.5) add it to your cfg configuration file at the end, and also change
   the default control option:

   # ------------------------------------
   #For RealFlight InterLink G3 Controller:

Hi everybody!
I run sss on my (intel)mac with osx 10.5.7 and a graupner mx-12 transmitter. I
think as long as you have the richt cabel from transmitter to comp there should
be no problem.
i will look up the settings:
On my right stick i have got the Alerions, up and down is for the elevator and
the left stick left(rigth ist for the ruder. Up and Down for power. the
transmitter is switcht to normal plane und mode2
Here ist comes:
begin control_methodname joystick4_mode2joystick_1 3joystick_1_exp 1.3joystick_2
1joystick_2_exp -1.3joystick_3 4joystick_3_exp 1.3joystick_4 2joystick_4_exp
-1.3end control_method
I hope this will help you a bit.
Best wishes

perhaps someone can remind me/us?

It could be a number of things - a bug in my original program, a bug in the
graphics drivers, or some issue specific to the mac port. Couldn't really tell
without looking closely (and I don't have a mac). You can turn the smoke off!

Not difficult, but it would require an experienced (or enthusiastic) programmer

BINGO! Thank you so much for your help Matthew. The missing key was in the
last paragraph, about taking the Mac files out of the OSX folder and putting
them into the main folder. Suddenly it all works, but I don't think I would
have figured that out by trial and error and I didn't find that step in any of
the other hints. Yippee! Time to go flying and have some fun. Thanks again.

As a point and click guy I can sympathize. I have only recently dug
into what the terminal and Unix environment can allow you to do. I
highly recommend you pick up a book that elucidates upon the terminal,
Unix and the command line. That being said I will do my best to get
you running in the simplest way I can.

There are 2 files that must be downloaded to get the program running
on Mac. The first is the "Main SSS download" located in the top level
of the "Files" section of the yahoo groups page. This file is called
sss.-219.2.zip and contains all of the data and configuration files.
This folder also contains the source code from which the program can
be compiled with a properly configured computer. It also contains the
Windows binary and a Windows library file. This file, however does
not contain the binary file and a specific library file that is
required by the Mac. Once you have this file downloaded and unzipped
you can proceed to the next step.

The second file you must download is the Mac specific file. This file
is located in the "OSX" folder in the "Files" section of the yahoo
groups site and is called osx-sss-0.10.sitx. This file contains the
binary (sss) and the Mac specific library file (libmodex.dylib) that
are required by Mac. Additionally there is a folder that contains
some very basic shell scripts that will start sss and link a specific
configuration file. If you open one of these files in the text editor
you can see there are 3 lines in each file. The first line "#!/bin/
sh" opens the terminal with the basic Bourne shell. The next line "cd
$(dirname $0)/.."uses the "dirname" command to move up one level in
the directory tree. The third line activates the sss program and
indicates which configuration file will be used. Once these .command
files are in the correct location they can be double clicked and the
script will automatically start the program. No Terminal typing
required.

In order for the .command scripts to work correctly, you must move the
binary file (sss), the library file (libmodex.dylib) and the commands
folder (command_files) into the top level of the sss-2.19.2 folder
that was unzipped from the first download. You can now use the Finder
to navigate into the command_files folder and double click one of
the .command shell scripts to launch the program.

I hope I have helped and not confused too much :)

I'm having similar problems in getting past this point in the start-up on my
mac. This is the first time I have tried to use Terminal and so far
I really don't get what I'm doing wrong. I have typed "cd " without the quotes
and then dragged the sss-2.19.2 folder onto the terminal
window to bring up the path, then pressed Return. When I then typed ./sss and
Return I repeatedly get the following message:
-bash: ./sss: No such file or directory

I get a little further if I go back and type "cd " then drag the
"osx-sss-0.10.sitx Folder" (from inside the "sss-2.19.2" folder) into the
terminal
window to bring up a different path, then press Return. Typing in ./sss then
brings up the following message instead, but still no start-up:

SSS has crashed. If you don't think this was your fault, please
try to reproduce the problem by running with sss_debug.cfg and
send an email containing the contents of this window, the file sss.log
plus any other info (like what you were doing when this happened) to
flight@.... Thank you, and sorry!
Press 'c <RET>' to continue (bad idea!) or 'q <RET>' to exit SSS.

I'm sorry but I don't understand enough about Terminal to know whether I am
making some mistake with the commands I'm using, or
whether I have stuffed up the folder hierarchy I am using.

Any ideas on what is going wrong and how I can fix it?

Thanks for any help.

I managed to get it to work in Linux many years ago. It is a very good Sim and
easy to use in Windows. It was not written to be easy to get going in Linux and
is a good test of your Linux ability.

I am having problems with installing v2.19.2. I have extracted the latest .zip
to my source directory. When I cd to the directory and try ./configure I get "No
such file or directory" - yet ./configure works on other installs.
When I try make I get "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.
Stop."

Readme.txt indicates that I need to tweak the Makefile. I have looked at it, and
as a relative newb to Linux, I am at a loss.

I also see I need plib, which I failed to install earlier tonight trying to
install (cough) crrcsim. plib failed to install because it couldn't find a
working GL library...

I have no idea what to do next, other than add a windoze partition, which seems
rather a shame.

Could anyone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction?

Many TIA

Dick

I had a fairly good session with the sim using the keyboard but I really would
like having a controller; it would probably be like practice flying then. I'm
going to search for a diy unit, should have done that already!

Hi guys,

Check out this link at allerc.com for a bunch of sim cables. I use the $10
futaba square-to-usb cable for both FMS and slope soaring sim, as well as flight
simulator 2004 and google earth flight simulator. It basically makes your
controller into a joystick interface, so you can use it on anything you want.
Just plug it in and go. No software to install whatsoever.

with this, slope soaring sim is not the least bit a game. It taught me to slope
soar very well (i have a zagi 5C).

hope this helps someone!
