Does anyone have any tips for painting the ships?  I picked up the basic box set over the winter and now I want to start painting.  However, I come from a fantasy background and I'm not sure where to begin.  Any tips or websites with examples would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

feel free to visit my website gallery for inspiration/ideas/further questions at:

http://www.minisd2k.com

I generally use a black primer undercoat, then drybrush up in successively lighter shades of the base colour until I get the desired basic hull colour.  I then start adding camo patterns, insignia, and other details.  I also do not hesitate to use high-quality decals (aka water slide transfers) to provide numbers and/or insignia quickly and cleanly, resorting to freehand painting only when really necessary.

I complete the ship mini with a coat of Testor's Dullcote flat spray finish to provide as realistic a finish as possible.

Hope this helps! :)

Mike had some good suggestions. I've heard Pine-sol is excellent, but I haven't had much need/desire to strip minis so I can't really speak with authority. ...
