Duration is "varies". I'd limit things more through a narrow
interpretation of "single act". Also, going about things in an
absurdly complicated way (building a house to take a nap) is
"completely alien" to most humans (maybe in some worlds an elf would
find this quite reasonable). I'd have the guy laugh at that one as a
good joke and probably have him think the caster was a funny fellow.
