So, I mentioned it to those who came last night, but here's official(ish) notice. Saturday, November 11th, is the 2nd ever JiffyCon, taking place in Greenfield, (Western) Mass. It's a one-day, low-key indie/story-game focused convention. All of the details and such are here: http://www.fairgame-rpgs.com/jiffycon.html
Myself and Jonathon will be going, at least, as we're both running games. It's about a 2 or 2.5-hour drive, so we were thinking that carpooling would be very good! But we need to get a headcount of committed people so we can make actual plans, like where we'll meet, how many cars, and so forth. Also, as far as I know there is crash space available for the night there, which I am semi-planning on using myself.
So, I would like to have a list of people who are joining us finalized by, say, Thursday of next week (the 9th). Email me at this address to reserve your spot, and/or with questions. I'll send out a reminder or two over the next week, as well.
I wouldn't mind running PTA, but I wouldn't be up for doing it tonight. I'd rather have a chance to look over the book some more (and hopefully get my own copy).
It's going to be a couple of months, but I am planning to run a full season of PTA when I get to town.

Holy cow! I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Roanoke mystery... I'll
definitely have to check this one out (and probably pick up a copy myself), but
unfortunately can't make it this evening (unless something changes.) Have fun
with it, though.

Cookies and cake!

Two cool things going on tonight:
(1) TOMES OF TERROR! Classic radio dramas staged and performed live,
Foley FX and everything. Three different short shows, including "The
Monkey's Paw"!
http://upcoming.org/event/114035/http://pmrp.org
Joev, Ericka and I checked this out last night, and it was a lot of
fun. They were also vending chocolate "monkey's paws" outside, which
was creepy...
(2) Cruel 2 B Kind (http://cruelgame.com/), a pervasive game.
From avantgame.blogspot.com:
"MIT is organizing a local game of Cruel 2 B Kind tomorrow (Halloween)
that looks to be great fun. If you don't have killer Halloween plans
yet, I strongly recommend that you scare folks with your bad-ass
benevolence! There are already 26 teams registered, so it should be
wicked fun.
Cruel 2 B Kind Halloween
October 31, 2006 - Sign-in starts at 6:00 PM , Game starts at 6:30 PM
, Game ends at 8:00 PM
Cambridge, MA (Brattle Square to Plympton Street (E-W), Mass Ave to
Mt. Auburn. Costumes recommended if you know other players! Or if you
dare, go undisguised...)"

Hey, quick question, since I think it's actually seeming likely that I'll finally be able to make it this week - I know you all have been starting up at 7PM, but what time do things usually wrap up & folks head for home?
Looking forward to finally meeting folks and getting a chance to game with you!
Ericka, are you still cool with bringing (and introducing people to)
Betrayal at House on the Hill?
Nathan, would you like to run "Don't Rest Your Head" (urban insomniac
fantasy) this week?
And anyone else (particularly those of you who haven't run a game
here), want to give something a try?
(Also, one note about next week: Delia Sherman and Ellen Kushner are
having an event upstairs from 6-7, so things may be a bit crowded up
there. They're also two wonderful local authors, so if you're
interested, you should go check them out!)

Hey all,
Sadly I have to miss out this week, but I'll be back next week for
spooky story games. Also, on a completely unrelated note, I just
wanted to give you guys a heads up that the infamous other SG will be
performing their travelling show (http://suicidegirls.com/live/, link
not work safe) tonight at our very own Middle East. I don't know what
time its getting started, but if you see a lot of craziness in Central
Square tonight, that's why.
Hasta luego,
Eben
There's a good chance of us playing Primetime Adventures tonight,
since we had such a good time with that last week. Does anyone else
have stuff you're thinking of running?
Also, does anyone own this game "Dread"? It's a horror game that
uses... Jenga blocks.

If someone had a copy, that could be a cool choice for next week.
See you all tonight!

I am totally into both PTA and OUT (nice acronym, that). Never heard of Rocketmen, but hey it sounds cool.
And keep hacking, dangit!

Okay, but please don't finish all your playtesting in one night. I
wanna have a crack at it and I don't think I can make SGB this week.

I have a copy and can bring it in future weeks if that's useful.
Other GM-less story-games I could bring include Soap and Pantheon.
Cheers,
Robert.

Do you own "Once Upon a Time"? I have an order pending from Pandy's,
but if you already got it, it would be really great if you would bring
it in.

Unfortunately, an emergency meeting of my condo association board has been
called for
tonight, so I'll be unable ot come. I'll try again next week...
Have fun!

Yo,
On November 11th the 2nd JiffyCon will be held in Greenfield, Mass.
Check out the schedule at http://fairgame-rpgs.com/schedule.html.
It's a one-day mini-convention thats all play, all the time. I'll be
driving out, and am totally willing to offer spots in the vehicle if
anyone wants to carpool (Jon, I know you're coming - you're scheduled
to run a game!). I know it's still a ways away, but I figured I'd
send something out to get y'all thinking about it.
I'll send out some more reminders as we get closer to the event.
See y'all tomorrow night!
-N
Sorry I couldn't make it this week -- someone's birthday thing came up at the last minute, so I bailed to do that.
Looking forward to next week though.

It would be great for anyone who's interested in running/starting a specific game to come prepared to do so. As we have less new faces, we're probably going to skip the "icebreaker" game of Munchhausen and go straight to splitting into small groups, playing new games, or maybe continuing particularly rocking ones. ----------------------------
That sounds fun. I'd definitely like to prep something for "quick play" and bring it along one of these weeks -- although I'm also excited about getting to play Caper, Agon and maybe The Prince's Kingdom if someone has a copy(?)
Thanks for coming out, and I'm glad you had a good time! I think you should definitely bring Caper, or any other game you'd like to run.
I'm going to use your email as a good segueway to make a general announcement-y-thing - as we get off the ground, it would be great for anyone who's interested in running/starting a specific game to come prepared to do so. As we have less new faces, we're probably going to skip the "icebreaker" game of Munchhausen and go straight to splitting into small groups, playing new games, or maybe continuing particularly rocking ones.
Feel free to use the mailing list or the blog (sgboston.wordpress.com) to announce a game you wanna run, or to ask if there's interest in anything in particular.
So, yes, Caper sounds fun! We've had people mention Rune and Covenant and a couple of others, as well. The more, the merrier, says I!
Thanks,
-Nathan

One thing I did not get to mention on Wednesday-- I have written a no-prep storytelling role playing game called Caper, in which the players take turns telling the planning, execution, and getaway of a heist or con job in the tradition of Hollywood caper flick.
I'm hoping to add Caper into the mix of pick-up games on the Story Games Boston roster.
But I'm also interested in offering a more regular Caper event I'm calling The Crosstime Capers of the Horatio Club Mountebanks. Starting with a session tentaively scheduled for Wednesday October 25th, I'm hoping to organize Horatio Club sessions for the last Wednesday of every other month at Pandemonium.
