Jansen: Well lets see here, they probably have enjoyment and celebrating to do
so lets allow them to get their torture over quickly. How about we have our new
commanders go first. Delinda, why don't you start us off and then Geeva can
follow you.
:: Delinda picked up her flute and headed towards the stage. Ramirez paid close
attention as she set up to play. Flutes weren't the most popular instruments, to
him included, yet it was original. He was just hoping that she would be as
original in her choice of music...::
Sharee: Thank you Jansen, for the kind introduction. Tonight I will be doing
Claude Debussy's Syrinx. In classic Earth mythology the Syrinx was a nymph
follower of Artemis, known for her chastity. But Pan fell in love with her, and
pursued her where ever she went. Desperate to escape Pan, she sought help from
the river nymphs. As an answer, they turned her into hollow reeds, that made a
mournful sound as Pan blow out a frustrated breath across them. Pan then cut
the reeds and tied them into the first pan pipes. This piece by Debussy is
meant to evoke Pan's sadness of losing his love. This piece is particular
connected to the flute as it was the first written for an unaccompanied flute in
the 20th century. ::smiling brightly:: It is also a favorite of mine.
:: Well... In terms of originality, she had it. Nice presentation too. He
would've prefered something a bit more upbeat, but there was good in everything.
And speaking of good, her interpretation was spot on. It was clear it was one of
her favorites since the emotion was there. Music is just sound. What matters
most is to feel the music, give it life, making people react, create emotions.
And that, Delinda did.::
:: And then, another sound joined in... A sound obviously not coming from the
flute... As if that wasn't surprising enough, The Ram almost fell down when he
realized that Geeva was playing an instrument... How the hell could that woman
be able to play, or even appreciate, music?!?!? One had to be in touch with
feelings to be able to be a musician, how could she even get a note out? And she
played some kind of fiddle??? Now that was almost blasphemy to his ears to have
someone so heartless play such an instrument. ::
:: As if it wasn't enough, she even started singing at some point! And she even
sounded like there was emotion in her words! She was even proving to be a good
actress despite her lack of emotion, 'cause she almost made him believe she
could feel anything. Well... feel anything aside from anger and disgust for
anything other than her own self... Not to mention that her interference in
Sharee's piece was rude... If he had gotten up on stage while she did her thing,
she'd be pissed and yet she allowed herself to display a lack of respect for
someone's artistic performance... Yeah, he'd definitely rub her nose in it next
time she gets on his case about respect... ::
Jansen: ::He stood clapping with the others smiling as he moved back to the
front.:: Hmm, Alright then that was a unique song indeed, and thank you both for
sharing that combonation with us. Also
congratulations once again, on your half pips. ::He briefly scanned the crowd
and nodded.:: Alright Tanang, naDev ghoS((Step foreward)). After he finishes,
Lieutenant Ramirez why don't you take a stab at it? ::He smiled as he stepped
down nodding as he and Tanang passed before taking his seat again waiting for
the next round.::
:: The choice of words in "take a stab at it" seemed appropriate for Ramirez's
state of mind. But then again, he had to figure out what the hell to do,
considering that he still hadn't figured out why he was even there in the first
place. And considering that so far everybody was going for musical entertainment
in terms of talent, including that klingon drinking song, he wanted to stand
out... ::
