Lt JG Ramirez: Not-so-random thoughts pt. 1

((EVENT HORIZON))

Moon: How about you escort me to get a fresh drink and we find a
table. Looks like the show is about to begin. ::Emma smiled and
batted
her eyelashes.::

Ramirez: Be my guest.

:: They walked by the bar and they ordered their drinks just before
taking seats not too far from the stage area.::

Rocar: If I could have your attention for a moment please…

::Rocar smiled at his assembled crew.::

Rocar: I'll not keep you too long I promise. As you know, Starbase
118 has
had a variety of different senior crews over the years and, as I look
around, I'm very pleased to see the new generation of officers to
take up
her reigns.

:: Rocar grinned widely.::

Rocar: …and luckily for you she's much harder to crash than a
starship.

:: The Ram laughed discretely, but not for the same reason others
might have. One of his friends in Starfleet had once

made a moon crash on the planet it was orbiting because the so-
called engineer tampered with the machine that kept the

moon in orbit. A station was very much more easier to crash than a
moon, but he wasn't about to tell that to Rocar

because they'd lock him up for sure just for holding such
knowledge... ::

:: The Ktarian paused for a chuckle and reached down for the box he'd
brought with him.::

Rocar: It is always sad to say goodbye to old friends. We had a lot
of
experienced officers stationed here… some of Starfleet's finest. But
it is
with great pleasure when I look round and I see so many eager new
faces
ready to follow in those footsteps.

::Rocar glanced at Julia, Rho, Kalpana and Delinda::

Rocar: Some of us know each other well already and know the base
like part
of their hand.

::The Ktarian then smiled at the new arrivals assembled at the
table.::

Rocar: Others are still getting to know one another, but I'm sure
we'll
soon be very familiar with everyone.

::Rocar nodded at Cyrus and Pedro::

Rocar: It is good to see the return of some old friends from my past
crews, and also good to see some of you for whom this is all new to.
Following recent changes to the senior staff configurations I'd like
you
all to be familiar with everyone's new assignments.

Anyone: response if any

:: Rocar motioned towards Quinn Reynolds with a warm smile

Rocar: Lieutenant Quinn Reynolds here is our new Intelligence
liaison,
she'll keep me up-to-date with the latest Starfleet Intelligence
have to
offer and I'm sure will be an asset to many of you on missions
together
too.

:: Intelligence, eh? This would be interesting... At this point, he
knew he wouldn't be the most hated person on the

station anymore. Intelligence had a knack for rubbing people the
wrong way... ::

::Rocar then pointed towards Cyrus Webb and Pedro Ramirez in turn.::

Rocar: As some of you will know already, Lieutenant Cyrus Webb is
taking
over from Tash Zubowskivich as the Starbase's new Chief of Security.
Cyrus
served under me some years back on Duronis II. And our very own Pedro
Ramirez returns to head our Science department.

:: The mexican raised his glass towards Rocar as he answered ::

Ramirez: And then some...

::Rocar went on about others, mostly new people he didn't know which
he'd need to meet at least one of them since he'd

work for him... Rayne... He'd have to remember that name... The
captain then opened his box.::

Rocar: So, before the festivities begin. I have here some objects
that
still carry a little meaning even if they can't be affixed to the
collars
of your civilian attire this evening. With the powers granted to me
by
Starfleet Command I hereby promote Lieutenants Delinda Sharee and
Geeva
Kalpana to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Both officers have done
sterling jobs within their respective departments and take on a lot
of
extra work that has been a great help to the fleet.

:: That was just great... Give more power to a power-hungry-stuck-up-
condescending-snob woman who'll only take pleasure

into rubbing her rank in his face thinking that she's actually
better than he was... Yeah... Things are really turning

out to be interesting, to say the least... He'll have a hard time
not to tamper with her exoskeleton if she gets on his

case with her newfound pseudo-authority... ::

Rocar: You know off the top of my head this is actually the first
time
I've ever promoted someone to Lieutenant Commander having started
out with
them as an Ensign.

Ramirez: oO And I probably am the one he demoted the most over the
years... But at least he keeps me around, which is

enough for me... Oo

::Rocar opened his hands towards the newer officers round the
table.::

Rocar: Let us see if we can't change that track record in the coming
months and years?

:: This time, Ramirez laughed out loud. He'd pay a lot to see
people's faces if he ever made it to LtCmdr. Counselors

might just get a lot of potential suicide-enclined officers if he
ever got a third pip on his collar... ::

Rocar: Ensigns Orrey, Rayne and Moon. Lieutenants Webb and Ramirez…
I'd
like to give you each a commendation, which will, of course, be
added to
your record. I have been very impressed with how well you've each
coped
with your individual challenges recently and intend to put you
forward for
promotions in a few weeks time after you've each had a chance to
complete
a full mission assignment here on Starbase. Thank you for your strong
efforts, which have not gone unnoticed, and I hope to see you all at
our
–more formal- promotion ceremony in the very near future.

:: Hmmm... A public display of appreciation of his work... Now that
had to shut some people up for a little while at

least... ::

::Rocar raised the wine glass he'd used to get attention at the
start of
speech.::

Rocar: (smiling) Friends, please will you join me in raising your
glasses
and congratulating all those that have been promoted or commended
today
and I hope you will enjoy the rest of your evening together.

:: Ramirez raised his glass and drank his whiskey bottoms-up. ::
