((Bridge, USS Discovery))
::As the time grew short and the crew returned to Discovery, Tyr
realized that his control over what happened was slowly slipping
away. There was only so far the ship could go in terms of watching
over the Constellation. There was nothing they could do against the
Planet Killer, at risk of altering history. And there was nothing to
console the Ba'ku Captain who knew that the person he'd fallen in
love with was going to die in the next few hours. He sat slumped in
the chair, barely noticing the conversations going on around him.::
ESKYYS: I hope that's the last of the Klingons for awhile.
Anyone: reply
ESKYYS: We going to stick around until the end?
WALTAS: reply
ESKYYS: I would rather not, but it's not my decision.
McCALL: Probably best if we starting thinking more about getting
back to our
own timeline. The longer we hang around the better chance there is of
something else going wrong with the timeline, assuming it already
hasn't.
::Rei nodded, she just hoped they had a time period to go back to::
WALTAS: Have we covered all the angles? No loose ends?
McCALL: Assuming that Decker follows what happens in the history
books
through to the end, it does not mean that we have to stay here and
watch it.
All the time risking detection by the Enterprise or even the planet
killer.
WALTAS: Commander Eskyys, I want you and McCall to run a final sweep
of the Constellation. I want no equipment, uniforms, or any other
sign that we were ever there. We have to be sure on this.
ESKYYS / MCCALL: response
WALTAS: Mitchell, any further signs of Klingon ships in the area? I
want a detailed scan. Send out a tachyon field if you have to.
MITCHELL: response
::The crew moved quickly...too quickly...to comply. He soon had his
answers and realized with a final look at the Constellation now
entering the system that he was stalling. He was waiting for an
absolution that would never come-a justification for allowing over
200 people to go to their deaths.::
WALTAS: Status?
MITCHELL: response
MCCALL / ESKYYS: response
WALTAS::Quietly:: Signal the Constellation we'll be leaving.
SAMUELSON: Aye sir. ::Pausing, tapping the keys, the viewscreen
snapped on to reveal Commodore Decker and the remaining bridge crew
of the Constellation, including Lieutenant Hammond.::
WALTAS: Attention on deck.
::Tyr and the bridge crew stood, and the Ba'ku Captain searched for
the words to say. His eyes rested on Hammond and a great sadness
swept over his features. He hid it as best he could. Clearing his
throat, he continued.::
WALTAS: Commodore Decker, on behalf of the crew of the Discovery we
wish you fair journey. I know you will make us proud. You are about
to embark on a mission that will echo through time, but we can't
stay to witness it. I wish you and your crew Godspeed.
DECKER: Thank you, Captain. Good luck getting home. ::Pausing, he
looked around at the bridge crew, already moving to make their way
into the system where the Planet Killer lurked:: Remember us.
WALTAS::Clenching his jaw, fighting emotion, he nodded:: Always.
::The viewscreen snapped off to reveal the Constellation heading now
at full impulse into the system.::
o O Goodbye, Sheila. O o
WALTAS::Quietly:: At ease.
::The crew returned to their seats.::
WALTAS: Set a course for Earth. Maximum warp.
SAMUELSON::Tapping at the console:: Aye sir. Course laid in.
WALTAS::Standing, heading quickly to the ready room:: Engage.
::The ship leaped to warp as Tyr headed into seclusion.::
