I just moved to san diego a few weeks ago and am looking for a few
people to play with. I've been playing since i was a kid, but
unfortunately i gave all my cards away. So now I play mostly mirrodin,
guildpact and a little time spiral. I'm 23 and live in pacific beach.
e-mail me up if you wanna get a game going.
Sorry for the last-minute notice. You need a Comic-Con pass to play in
the Magic Tournaments, and Saturday is sold out. If you don't already
have a ticket, they are not selling any for saturday (even the 4-day
pass is now a 3-day pass) (http://www.comic-con.org)
Hey guys, I've been playing since 4th Edition. I collected/competed
seriously at the local level around the North County area. The last
time I played was when Mirage/Tempest/Vistions/Weatherlight came out.
I quit when highschool started, and didnt play for 7 years.
My cousins came over one day with a few cards and re-sparked my
interest. Finding this 'group' is awesome, i look forward to meeting
up for some trading/playing/info.
If you live by Escondido, hit me up. cozmo5050@...
To replace the Arena program, Wizards has created a new City
Championships program. This is designed to allow players to earn
invitations to US Nationals, as well as earn byes for Regionals.
This upcoming season is the "Beta" season, so the details may change,
but the way it works is:
* The DCI defined 44 "Cities" to for this program. Each city has one
or more stores that run "Regular Season Tournaments" that awards
points to players. At the end of the season, the 8 players with the
most points will play in the City Championship Finals. The number of
Invitations to Nationals and Byes for Regionals awarded depends on
the number of players in the Regular Season.
* The points are awarded as follows:
1) 1 point for participating in a Regular Season Tournament
2) 1 point for each swiss round played
3) 10 points for 1st place in a Regular Season Tournament
4) 6 points for 2nd place in a Regular Season Tournament
5) 3 points for 3rd-4th place in a Regular Season Tournament
6) 1 point for 5th-8th place in a Regular Season Tournament
For example, if a player finishes in 2nd place of a tournament with 6
swiss rounds, that player would receive 1 participation point, 6
points for the swiss rounds, plus 6 points for 2nd place, for a total
of 13 points.
* City Championship Standings are calculated by taking into account
the best "X" results for each player, based on the number of
tournaments for that city.
For example, if a city runs 30 tournaments in one season,
the best 14 tournament scores for each player counts. If one player had 10
tournaments worth 10 points each, and 10 tournaments worth 5 points each, the
score for that player would be 120 (all ten 10-point tournaments, plus 4
5-pointers.)
The Beta Season schedule for Artifex is:
1/7/2007 Booster
1/14/2007 Standard
1/28/2007 Booster
2/11/2007 Standard
2/18/2007 Booster
2/25/2007 Legacy
3/4/2007 Booster
3/11/2007 Standard
3/18/2007 Booster
3/25/2007 Standard
4/1/2007 Booster
4/8/2007 Standard
4/15/2007 Booster
4/29/2007 Standard
Game Empire may have some City Championship Regular Season
Tournaments, too, I'll post their schedule later.
Finals will be on one of these days: May 12th, 13th, 19th, or 20th

Hi all my name is Mike and i am new to San Diego and am looking for
some places to play. I just recently got back in to magic and am
trying to find some casual play to knock off the rust. I am in Chula
Vista so if anyone wants to play send me a email (m1snowman@....
I am also a collector and am always willing to trade.
thanks
Mike
Due to a scheduling error, the Limited Champs tournament will actually
be held in San Francisco, not Costa Mesa. The Two-Headed Giant Champs
was in LA, and I am not yet sure where the Standard Champs will be this
October.
Participation card for Champs is a special-border Radkos Guildmage, and
the top 8 get a special-border Voidslime.
More information about Champs can be found here:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=events/magic/champs
Hi, my name is Matthew and I'm relatively new to the Magic scene. I'm
hoping there are some people out in East County who are interested in
playing since I don't know of any places to find players. It would be
fun to find a few new friends and traders, hopefully give me something
to look forward in my week. I've only played with my friends from
college before, so if you don't have anything against a newb I'd
probally appreciate playing a game with you. I live in Rancho.

All the dates are right, some are missing locations tho. As they get
closer to happening, I will update them.
Some quick fun ones to point out: San Diego Comic Con will host Amateur
Championships this year, and Grand Prix Phoenix will be a sealed deck
tournament on Labor Day Weekend.
Sorry for the late post, but here are the directions I promised to
the San Diego Pre-release.
As you know, the this tournament will be held at the La Costa Health
Spa, which should make this the most elegant Pre-release ever held.
It will be in the "Poinsettia Ballroom" in the Conference Center.
Basically, you exit the I-5 at La Costa Avenue, head east to El
Camino Real. Turn left (north) and about 1/4 mile away is the
entrance to La Costa. Turn right into La Costa and follow the
directions for the the Poinsettia Ballroom in the Conference Center.
Their offical directions website is:
http://www.lacosta.com/about/directions.asp
Their address is 2100 Costa Del Mar Road, Carlsbad, CA 92009 and
their phone is 1-800-854-5000
Registrations for flights should start at 9am. Also, I am using some
new high-tech stuff to make the sign-ups, flights and drafts go
faster, so we can all have more fun!
The dates for the Guildpact in-store releases are Feb 4 and 5, but I
don't have the participating stores yet, and I added a couple JSS
tournaments, too.
Hi guys.. My name is monty. I was an avid magic the gathering player
about 6 years ago. I won 1 state non wizards of the cost sponsored
tourny in New Mexico, but that was a long time ago. I have been away
form the game for a long time and I don't know the new rules or which
game type is the most commonly used nowadays. I stoped playing when i
joined the navy around 3rd edition or so. Any way Im having my
collection sent to me as we speak. But I am really wanting to get back
in the scene, I miss it a ton.. Anyway point being I would like to
start off with sealed/booster type of tourneys..where having a good
collection does not matter.
Any way thanks guys hit me up at montenshi0927@... or better yet

We have a lot of events scheduled for the San Diego Pre-release, and
since we only have one day to run them, some events will overlap.
To give you a heads up on when the tournaments are going to start, I
am sending out this email. It's a little long, but please bear with
me, I like to type.
1) 32 Player Sealed-deck flights: These are our normal flights, we
have been running them for some time now. They are going to start
as soon as possible. The only difference this time is we have
preregistration available at www.monk.org (make sure you choose the
San Diego Pre-release, not the Arizona one). When we begin the
flights, we will have 2 lines for players: a prereg line and a non-
prereg line. I am sure you can guess which players go in which
lines :) We will have the pre-reg players check in first, and get
their flights started as soon as possible, then we will start the
non-prereg'ed players. We will start the pre-reg check-ins at 9:30
for flight 1 with 15 minute intervals between flights, but please
arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled start. Each flight
will have 4 rounds of swiss play.
2) Two-Headed Giant tournament: Wizards of the Coast's new
sanctioned format will make it's debut at the Pre-releases! Grab a
friend and transform into a Two-Headed Giant, each "head" playing
their own deck but sharing strategy and a 40-point life total!
Because we have limited time to play, this tournament will begin at
12pm.
3) Three-person Team Sealed Deck: This format has been at the last
few Pre-releases, so it probably will be familiar to most people:
each team has 3 players, who play normal 1-on-1 matches against the
players on the other team. The team with the most player match wins
wins the round. If it sounds confusing, it's only because I am
explaining it poorly. This event will start at 2pm.
4) Booster drafts: Booster drafts are 8-player tournaments where
you draft the cards that will build your deck from packs as they are
passed around the table. Then the players play in a single-
elimination format until there is only one winner left. These will
be running all day long, as soon as the last flight has started.
I will have flyers printed at the tournament with prices, products,
and prizes awarded Saturday morning.
You can preregister for the San Diego and Ravnica Pre-Release
tournaments at this web site:
http://www.monk.org
Click "Magic:The Gathering" on the right, then the "Click here to pre-
register for this event!" link in the bottom of your pre-release
(remember, bit San Diego and Arizona are listed, make sure you click
the right one!)
Upcoming tournaments, including the Pre-Release, PT Honolulu
Qualifiers, and GP Philly Trials have been added. There are also
changes to some Pre-releases and all PTQs. Also, the PTLA Date
changed several weeks ago, I should have mentioned earlier.
Preleases:
a) Two Headed giant sealed decks have arrived! Not sure on the exact
details, yet, but check out official FAQ to find more info about the
format (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?
x=dci/announce/dci20050805a). Some tournaments this will replace the
Team Sealed tournament, some tournaments will run both formats.
b) Flights vs One Giant Tournament. Some Pre-releases are switching
back to the old "One Giant Tournament" format, instead of multiple
flights. Not all, but as of this email, Los Angeles will be one
tournament, San Diego, Vegas and Arizona are still using flights.
PTQs:
a) Cash prizes have been replaced with actual airplane tickets
starting with the PT Honolulu Qualifiers. No more $250 or $500
prize, although packs will still be awarded.
PTLA:
a) PTLA was changed from Oct 8-10 to Oct 28-30. The location is the
same (Anaheim Convention Center). The sets legal for Extended for
the Pro Tour will be: Seventh Edition, Eighth Edition, Ninth Edition,
Invasion, Planeshift, Apocalypse, Odyssey, Torment, Judgment,
Onslaught, Legions, Scourge, Mirrodin, Darksteel, Fifth Dawn,
Champions of Kamigawa, Betrayers of Kamigawa, Saviors of Kamigawa,
and Ravnica: City of Guilds. The only cards that will be banned from
Extended will be: Aether Vial, Disciple of the Vault, Entomb, and
Skullclamp.
That's all! Hopefully I didn't forget anything :)
