tvtropes.org is a great website. Since last November, I've been playing around
with the
idea of Tropes with varying Prevalence (Energy is still HP, Attack and Defense
still work)
rather than Powers with Power Strengths. The system's the same (like
Corporation,
Monster, et cetera), but the new flavor makes for some fun new abilities. Here
are some of
the Tropes I've created for fun in my mind, though I haven't playtested most of
these...They're quite powerful, actually, since this is meant to be a set that's
used just
against itself. I might tone some of the more unique ones down and submit them
to the
Powers archive with a flavor revamp, after I playtest 'em. Of course, some of
them can't
really be toned down without changing what makes 'em cool (Charles Atlas
Superpower,
for example, PWNS)...
Lamarck Was Right:
Create an Offspring with Energy equal to this Trope's Prevalence and with copies
of all
your Tropes except this one. It gains a copy of this one if it survives for
three rounds.
Sphere of Destruction:
Spend X and target all desired opponents. If X is greater than an character's
Defense, it
does X unblockable damage to that target. Otherwise, it has no effect on
him/her.
All of Your Powers Combined:
You gain copies of up to one Trope from each opponent.
Charles Atlas Superpower:
Spend Energy equal to a Trope's Prevalence to gain a permanent copy, starting
next round.
Glowing Eyes of Doom:
At the beginning of a round, announce that your eyes are glowing. Quadruple any
one
Attack you make during the next three rounds. You must wait at least four rounds
to make
your eyes glow again.
Superpowered Evil Side:
At the beginning of every even-numbered round, double your Energy and add this
Trope's
Prevalence to your Attacks. At the end of every even-numbered round, lose 30
Energy.
Blessed With Suck (FLAW):
Take unblockable damage every two rounds equal to the Prevalence of your most
Prevalent
Trope, which loses all effects other than this damage after the first round.
Cursed with Awesome:
You take one unblockable damage at the end of each round. You gain 30 Energy at
the
beginning of each round.
Badass Normal:
Discard all your Tropes aside from this one and gain Energy equal to three times
their
Prevalence.
Who Wants To Live Forever?:
You take no damage for 10 rounds, after which, frustrated by boredom, you find a
way to
kill yourself. You die at the beginning of the 11th round.
Beam O Spam:
You gain a bonus to each of your Attacks equal to the total number of Attacks
you've
launched.
Big Effing Sword:
You make only up to one Attack each round, which affects each desired opponent.
Add
double this Trope's Prevalence to your Attacks. You lose both of these benefits
when your
Energy drops below 20.
Infinity Plus One Sword:
Spend X Energy on your quest for the IPOS. Keep track of your total expended
Energy;
when you've spent Energy equal to this Trope's Prevalence on questing, you gain
the
Infinity Plus One Sword, which quadruples all of your Attacks and doubles your
Defense.
Training From Hell:
Burn X to Train, gaining a permanent 2X bonus to Defense and all your Attacks.
Made of Iron:
You may negate any Attacks below this Trope's Prevalence.
Fearful Symmetry:
If your Attack is equal to that of your Attacker, his/her Attack is negated. If
your Defense
is equal to that of your victim, his/her Defense is negated.
Katanas Are Just Better:
Add half of your Attacks (round up) to your Defense.
A couple more Powers... Adaptation...Improvisation...: You gain a Defense bonus equal to 2 times the round number. (Yes, that name was inspired by The Matrix,...
