Re: Space 1999

well, there was a Space 1999 magazine/comic book once, it had the
backstory about an advanced alien starship/base disguised as a mountain
on the lunar surface - the Alphans entered the base, had some adventure,
and then the mountain/ship took off... ; )

it's been quite a while, so i don't remember much more about the story -
but thought that some weird alien ultratech was a LOT more likely to
'blast the moon out of its orbit' than a few hundred tons of 'nuclear
waste'... unless maybe it was something from Area 51... < LOL >

there was also a theory online, that the moon was skipping through
parallel universes (kind of like an up-market version of Sliders) and
that it didn't really 'travel' anywhere in a spatial sense... : O

i hadn't thought of the Holodeck/VR angle -- that would probably
'explain' some of the more *cough* peculiar episodes... ; )
