Hi Donna.
Sorry about the late response to your message. I've been trying to learn the
different methods using GIMP. That manual is huge ... so may take some time to
fully comprehend things. Still looking for good tutorials about the GIMP
though.
Thanks for the offer about the priest/bishop garb. I think it may take a whole
new mesh to get the look I want. So, learning meshing will have to be on my
plate next. If your still curious .... Look in the Bayeux photos. I put a
couple of "ideas" there. I've been searching for "asian" influenced garments
for men .... thinking that the long robes might work as a recolour base.
Anyway, back to the drawing board so to speak!

Walter, I don't know what tutorials you've been looking at but I assume you are talking about Sims specific tutorials rather than GIMP ones. If this is the case you may want to just try a few GIMP ones either from the site you got it from, the user manual is there as well as some tutorials on using the programme, or from the many forums that have them. I have never tried to do what you are doing so can't help you there-I'm not an expert with GIMP by any stretch. I will say though that GIMP does have everything that you would need for Sims stuff it's just not as user friendly as the expensive ones like Photoshop-if it's good enough for Maylin, then it's certainly good enough for me. I want to stick with GIMP because people are good enough to create these tools and give them away, they deserve my support I think even if a little more work is involved. Also because I'm new to that kind of thing, Photoshop or similar would be just as hard for me to navigate I think. I tell you what though, I can't wait until you start meshing.

Thanks, Ladies, for the great feedback. What I'm trying to learn is using SimPE and import/export the textures from the paintings. Sadly, I can't afford to buy a good editing program, so I'm dabbling with GIMP. Unfortunately, none of the tutorials are current ... so it'll be a challenge to learn using it since it's so new to me. I'm glad you like the tapestries, but it seems so easy with the Photostudio in SimPE. Hence the new challenges. I did find other photos of the tapestries with a white background texture that I'm trying to edit with GIMP. Just not working .... or delayed due to time .... but once I figure it out, I'll get it posted. I have so many files with artworks that I want to convert for use in the game.
Donna & Morgaine, loved looking around the Sims Magazine you're involved in. My God! The work that must be involved. I bow to your creativity ... and to your co-producers in the work. I hadn't thought of posting anything anywhere yet. I want to be more proficient/confident before taking that step. I post them here .... and mention them on the "Where can I get" at the webstory, Kingdom of Lothere. I'm an ardent fan of Jenny's work.
Right now, I'm trying to learn the building techniques using CFE to create roofing with the floor tiles. Just not happy with the games roof system. So, have been spending HOURS trying to work out problems dealing with that. Plus, a damnable thing called "real life" keeps getting in the way of trying my hand at things.
The link to digital perversion was excellent!
Thanks again for the confidence boosts! I'm glad someone is enjoying them. You could always mention them ..... get more people involved on the site?! Ya have to show me the Walter Sim! Kinda makes me feel "immortal"!

Walter, have you put these up anywhere else? These paintings/tapestries are so fantastic you should let everyone see them. In fact, all your pics are marvellous-put them out there if you haven't already. Even those who have modern hoods have museums and art galleries. I agree with Morgaine our nobles need no one other than you for our paintings-a thought occurs to me at the moment that I am going to create a Walter sim as my hood's resident painter/artist. I need to update this post more often. I've been a bit, um, busy since the last time I let y'all know what's been going on in Albion ... but without further ado, here are some of the more recent posts:
The Dangers of a Limited Vocabulary: Neil Porter tries to teach his daughter Nellie to say Da-da, while his wife Ailís preaches rebellion to her mother.
Dinner Spice: Why you shouldn't take your daughter's advice -- or at least, why you shouldn't do it in a half-arsed fashion.
Scene from an Italian Restaurant: Ok, ok, so the restaurant isn't Italian, but Simon Chevaux is still taking Mirelle Brothel out for a night on the town. How did he afford it, you ask? Well, that's the question, isn't it?
Midnight Snacking: I must have had a food obsession as I was writing these ... Mark Wesleyan gets to know his daughter-in-law Isabel a little better.
To Widen the Straight and Narrow: Edmond Chevaux's had it with his wife's ban on contact with their daughter Rosette. Trouble is, Cerise isn't budging. What's a decent father to do?
That's all -- who am I kidding, that's a ton ... well, either way, enjoy!

So, challenge number two is long long long overdue and I apologize. My work
schedule has been crazy hectic for the past few months.
Browsing through medieval sections of TSR, Mod the sims, I've found tons of lady
dresses, but what about menswear? And teen wear?
My challenge to you, is to make a new set of clothing for men. It can be
peasants, middle class, upper class or for the king. It can be for teens,
toddlers, child, adults, elders, it's up to you.
The only restriction is that if you recolor it, you must have a link to the
original and permission to recolor it.
The challenge end date will be Feb 15th, 2010.
Thanks for the invite, Donna. Just joined up a few minutes ago. Will check out
the site fully on my next day off. I'm glad you like the "artwork". I really
want to find a clear, concise tutorial about recoloring artwork type objects
with SimPE. I've tried Numenor's but just not getting it! It just seems
toooooo easy with that Photo Studio trick. I'm dying to use julsfels mesh in
her art gallery at The Fairy Forest (http://www.feenwald.de/en/index.php). I
have her paintings in the game, load SimPE but can't quite grasp how to put in a
new image?
Yeah, I'm re-doing the castle. Just not happy about the symmetry on that one
with the pictures. I've had to re-do that cathedral too. Seems I missed
counting over 10 tiles in order for shrinking with the Lot Adjuster ..... hate
that when it happens. The new cathedral is going to look pretty much the same
whenever I can around to it again. I tend to do downloading sprees more than
actually get into building etc. But I LOOOOOOOVE the Lot Adjuster. I'm going
to have to download the newer version sometime soon. I've also been trying
different types of buildings like Ingeli has in her Windlebridge site. That
will be the next big project.
Plus, Yes, that was me making the request at InSIM. Been reading Jenny's work
.... Kingdom Of Lothere and it was a request. So I thought I would try there
..... not sure where else to post that kind of request. MTS2 doesn't take them.
I thought a byzantine type of dalmatic would be appropriate for that time frame.
More a Russian Orthodox garment ... or the embroidered ones such as the Pope
wears. Then, hopefully, it could be recolored and used by medieval lords and
ladies, kings and queens, emperors and empresses.
Right now I'm working on the Bayeux Tapestry but not pleased with the images
that I downloaded, then tweaked. So have to redo the photos and start again. I
should post the others soon .... some murals, religious icons etc. Not sure
exactly when ....
Thanks again for the kind words. See ya soon on Living Sims!?!
Well Walter, I got your paintings yesterday and am firing up my game just now to see them in their full glory. I LOVE the animal ones, totally up my street-Thank you so much. Sadly, my internet access is very slow at the moment and I haven't been able to look at all your pics in the folder, but I have no doubt that they are amazingly stunning. I can't tell you what an inspiration your work is-I even got the lot adjuster after seeing your (now defunct?) castle. So anyway, I must, I just have to, ask you to come along to http://livingsims.nl/forum/portal.php and join us just so you can show so many more people those fantastic shots. The people at the site will very much appreciate your stuff, I get some great feedback and I am not a patch on you when it comes to building/decorating. You'll find Morgaine there too.
Thanks again and all the best, Donna
PS. are you the wawa looking for priestly garments at Insim recently?
Firstly, thanks so much for sharing your lovely murals! I know I'm always looking for more church-type decorations. My medieval sims thank you for giving them something pretty to look at while in church.
Secondly, um, WOW. That is not a chapel, my friend, that is a CATHEDRAL!! There are probably some medieval architects/artists rolling in their graves with envy right about now. Your work is, as always, gorgeous, and I can only pray that you continue to post pictures for the rest of us to gawk over!!
Thanks so much!

I put together a painting set that is based on the "Red vs Blue" oil painting
template from within the game. Inspired by stories from The Kingdom of Lothere
by Jenny.
It's tough finding appropriate artwork from the early Middle Ages but I hope to
provide more soon. Now that I know how to do this in SimPE .... I'm going to go
a "LITTLE" crazy doing things. Next up .... The Story of Christ and The Story
of Mary by Giotto. He painted these frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel. I would
love to have seen them. But I'm content seeing the paintings of St Francis in
Assisi.
I hope people will enjoy these paintings from a Medieval Bestiary.

Howdy Everyone!
I'm re-doing my Richmond Castle with the Lot Adjuster. One of the buildings is
the Royal Chapel/Cathedral. Since there is limited numbers of religious type
paintings, I decided to try to make some with the Photo Studio in SimPE. So I
have created the murals of the life of St Francis of Assissi by Giotto using

and you can see them in the Photo section under Kingdom of Richmond. The photos
there already are the old castle that I won't be finishing ..... so I'll take
them down later if I can, but enjoy them for now.
I'm creating more with religious mosiacs and icons which I'll put onto the Files
section if anyone is interested. I hope you might enjoy them.

Hi Kellie,
those are interesting plans! I'm with you on the furniture; sometimes rather
simple furniture is very pricey and then again something that's fit for a
merchant at the very least comes at 1§.
Changing the color of hair is actually not too difficult; I've done it with a
few hair styles that I wanted to use for a certain class (I have black-haired
royals, blonde nobles, and so on). You can use Sims BodyShop to get the images
that you need to change and than you fiddle around at them with Photoshop. It
takes some trial and error but then it's really interesting. Have fun with that
& happy new year!

Learn to really decorate houses -- as in put more than one painting or statue in a room, plus the bare necessities, and call it "done."
Learn to edit objects in SimPE, because really good furniture (i.e. looks great and has high motive ratings) should not come ridiculously cheap; and furniture that looks like it belongs in a castle should not be ridiculously cheap and have low motive ratings!
Maybe, if I'm really lucky, learn to manipulate hair files, so that the lovely Tudor hoods I have can be used by all hair colors.
Alternatively, if the above doesn't work out, learn to be less anal about those things.
Hope everyone has a great New Year!

My goal is to finally come up with an ending to my RKC story! It's been hanging
there for at least a year and I just need to get on with it. I would just like
to actually finish something, a big project I've started.
In addition to that I'd like to pick up my medieval 'hood again (I've been
playing the modern thing for the last while) and get that up and running again,
too. It'd be so nice to see all those teens get married and have children of
their own.
Happy New Year. :)
