"Rekkhai," the communication officer turned and looked at Shiarrael
"we have a message coming in from Tomika."



"And, what does it say?" Shiarrael asked while her fingers quietly
drummed on the armrest.



"They are orders to discontinue the current mission" Shiarrael frowned
but remained silent as the communications officer read the full breath
of the transmission. "They will be dispatching another vessel in our
stead. We are being ordered to proceed to the neutral zone for
further assignment."



Gripping the armrest Shiarrael smiled wryly "What fool signed this
change in plans?"



"Ael'Riov tr'Lasik, Rekkhai."



"Lasik." Shiarrael repeated the name instantly recognizing it. She
knew Lasik well enough to know that he was a one of the most conniving
wing commanders in the fleet. "Well then open a channel to the
Ael'Riov. I'm interested to see what he has come up with."



"Aye Rekkhai."



A minute elapsed before the view screen image changed from the passing
stars to an image of tr'Lasik. The young Rihannsu sat behind his
heavily decorated desk with a smug look on his face. "Ahhh…t'Rehu it
is a pleasure to see you. You received your change in orders no?"



Standing up Shiarrael smiled broadly allowing her daggers to show "Yes
we have. Though, I am curious. Since when does a simple wing
commander have the ability to issue a fleet level order?"



Lasik maintained his smugness allowing her insult to slide; it didn't
matter to him since he already won. "You didn't hear? Shame. I have
recently been appointed as tr'Verelan's second, and well, it would be
a tragedy to waste the resources of the Aylhr on that simple
assignment."



Licking her lips to moisten them Shiarrael allowed her sharp smile to
soften "I thank you for considering the mnhei'sahe of Aylhr." She
paused with satisfaction as he broke his smugness to wince briefly.
Not giving him a chance to retort she continued "I am interested to
know what honor the Galae wishes to bestow upon the Aylhr."



"The honor-" she could hear the animosity in his voice "well, I guess
I can go ahead and tell you. The Aylhr is being reassigned to Ahuian.
I'm sure you are aware of the situation on that settlement? Well
congratulations Ael'Riov, you have been assigned the task of
overseeing the new Galae presence there."



Shiarrael's satisfaction quickly evaporated at that news "Hmm?
Ahuian? The settlement that resides in the neutral zone?" she
swallowed and stared at the figure across the screen as her fingers
trickled to the collar of her uniform pressing against her chest. "I
am interested in knowing the reason for this assignment."



"Isn't it obvious? It is the perfect assignment for you. I have
business I must attend to now, please make haste to Ahuian." The
transmission abruptly cut off.



Grinding her teeth Shiarrael stared at the Imperial Seal before
relaxing and taking her seat in the throne. "Very well." She
addressed the bridge crew "set course to Ahuian, maximum warp."



As the Aylhr changed course towards its new destination Shiarrael
quietly seethed. That man would certainly die a painful death one
day, and elements willing she will be the catalyst of his demise.
