Okay, well the first thing you've got to know about Waywards is that
they are seriously, seriously broken. As in "creepy psychotic mass
murdering killer" broken.

The Heralds wanted to create a Warlord creed of imbued to lead the
other creeds. To make these Warlords special, they decided to instill
in these imbued a sense of their divine purpose, the sense of urgency
and drive which they hoped the Warlords would impart to other creeds,
get them to rally behind their flag.

Didn't work that way. The Heralds' message got broken: or maybe the
message broke the recipients. Either way, when a Wayward is imbued,
his or her amygdala, the seat of human emotion, gets turned on to a
white hot rage, beyond madness. It's a rage which cannot be turned
off, can't even be turned down, and can't ever be ignored.

So all Waywards start off with one permanent Derangement. Always,
it's a violent Derangement, like sociopathy or megalomania. Something
that marks the Wayward as a cold, brutal, calculating killer.

At the moment of a Wayward's imbuing, havoc ensues. A Wayward freshly
imbued will kill, with extreme prejudice and the sort of violence
they have to censor in a Hollywood film. The site of a Wayward's
imbuing is typically a site of a massacre, with lots and lots of
innocent deaths caused by the Wayward in his rush to get at the Thing
that triggered his or her imbuing. It's messy, and as the Wayward
progresses, carving out a trail of destruction, it gets worse. Think
of the character of Kiriyama in the movie Battle Royale, and also
that girl who liked to kill with a sickle, and you get a fair idea of
what Waywards are capable of.

In game terms, Waywards' primary Virtue is Vision. They may be
murderers, but their murder has a plan. They might let one monster go
in order to lure out a more dangerous monster, or they might burn
down an office just to deprive a monster of the data it has been
manipulating. Never mind that that office contains thirty innocent
people and a creche full of preschool children: what matters is that
the Wayward's plan goes ahead. Everyone else is expendable.

Waywards get one major advantage and one major disadvantage besides
their violent Derangement.

Their advantage is that their Second Sight is on, all the time. It
never stops. They always, automatically, know if there is something
or someone Wrong nearby. Their main disadvantage is that they can't
buy edges such as Discern, Witness or Illuminate which can be used to
identify different varieties of monster. To a Wayward, all
supernaturals are more or less the same: vermin to be exterminated.

Oh, and you know that when hunters' Virtues reach 6, they start going
nuts? That doesn't happen to Waywards until their Virtues get to 9.
Not 6. So in the end, they can suffer from fewer Derangements than
other extremists, making them the /sanest/ of an insane bunch.

Isn't that ironic?

I don't have the stats and dice pools for Wayward edges with me, but
I can tell you that Waywards' edges do the following.

• Activate normal hunters' Second Sight in the vicinity of the
Wayward.

•• Constant, permanent Danger Sense. This costs nothing to activate
and is always on. The Wayward can never again be surprised.

••• This is the most controversial power of them all. With this edge,
a Wayward can push the rage buttons of a number of imbued in the
vicinity, turning them into a mass of frothing berserkers, under the
leadership and direction of the Wayward. This caused a tremendous
ruckus on the Hunter Mailing List game and the Reckoning group when
it came out in print.

•••• This power enables a Wayward to question the dead. Doesn't
matter if they are vampires, zombies, ghosts or just dead folks, as
long as the hunter can look into its eyes - or the sockets where its
eyes used to be. Only the Wayward can hear what the corpse is saying.

••••• The Rank 5 power of the Wayward creates a tornado of deadly
winds that deal out aggravated damage to everything within a number
of yards of the Wayward (who remains untouched by the storm).

There is more, but as I said, I haven't got the book with me, and
it'll be a while before I can access game data for you, so I hope
this helps you for now.
