You can try changing the grid size and aligning the polys one by one so the map doesn't leak... you can resize the grid in the top left corner of QuArK's map...

There is no set measurement. That's why they go by "units" of measurement. A unit can be anything, 3 inches, 3 feet... Your best guide would be your player...
