Mundoli(Kiddo). Both are superb quizzers and Kiddo was a finalist in this
years Grandmaster quiz. Both have done some wonderful quizzes for us in the
past.

Dear Members,
If you are planning to participate in this quiz and are planning to take the
Shatabdi from Chennai to Bangalore on 21st (it reaches Bangalore at around
10.50AM), please send me an email about it.
If there are enough quizzers taking this train, we could request the
organizers to start the quiz a bit later(around 11.15AM) so that the Chennai
teams can participate.

same-Suresh Ramasubramanian and Rohit Suresh.

It’s that time of the year again when Ipso Facto, the quiz fest of the National Law School of India University comes a rollin’ by.

 

Without further stalling, the itinerary - and please note that there has been a change in the dates (shifted by a day) from the previous email:

 

The new when – 21^st (Saturday) and 22^nd (Sunday) November, 2009.

 

Where – NLSIU Campus, Nagarbhavi, Bangalore.

 

What –

 

Saturday 21^st:

 

1. Sports Quiz (College)

Starts at 10.30 AM.

 

Teams up to 3 people.

 

QMs: Eashan Ghosh and Raghuram Cadambi.

 

2. General Quiz (College)

Starts at 3.30 PM

 

Teams up to 3 people.

 

QMs: Pranav and Arvind (they go as one) and Badri.

 

Mixed college teams allowed.

 

Sunday 22^nd:

 

1. The NLSIU Ipso Facto Open Quiz – res ipsa loquitor; general as they come.

 

Starts at 10 AM.

 

Teams of up to 4 people – anything goes.

1. The CPA Global Intellectual Property Open Quiz – a veritable quiz pot pourri with tracks on business (trademark), science (patent), the arts (copyright), and other things we’re not yet giving away.

 

Preliminary round starts right after Ipso Facto prelim – please just turn up for both.

 

Teams up to 4 people.

 

QM: Varun Rajiv.

 

Prizes of over Rs. 50,000 cold cash (or leaden, non-bouncy cheques) total, with winners of each quiz standing to make Rs. 2,000 each.

 

Due to jostling with the schedule of other events, especially on Sunday, the quizzes WILL START ON TIME, and we request teams to, accordingly, be there on time.

Do spread the word by putting it up on quiz groups etc.

well done (is of course only half begun). off late, a nice change to
bizquizzes with bschools finally looking for alternatives to "big
name" quizmasters has resulted in a lovely general and
non-arcane-biz-trivia flavour coming into biz quizzes. ICFAI's bizquiz
was one such, conducted by the intrepid mitesh.
elims questions that we did right i jotted at www.fundamental.in
it was yet another wet rainy weekend, and I landed up in bangalore via
the spanking new shatabdi express to partner with aravindh, having
cancelled my plans to drive down from chennai with venkatesh (matti,
who as you will see ahead played a leading role in the events of the
evening)(tatkal to the rescue). after yet another episode of waiting
and timepassing for prelims to start (4PM start became 4:45PM, though
rain was a half decent excuse)
about 40 teams turned up inspite of the rains i believe.

the finals were well detailed, with loads of audio, video and a
smattering of all kinds of topics. emphasis was high on info tech
trivia, esp in one round as a particular pc brand was sponsoring a
laptop for the best quizzer in that round, won by shubham of CTS
(partnered by venkatesh) on a set of 10 very tech related qustions, of
which i got 2. one was unfortunately and expectedly a sponsor type
question, though creatively set).
rounds like 8 questions of 2 anagrammatical trivia answers (NEO/ENO
for example) made it fun to attempt. most of the rounds were on the
buzzer, and yet passed on irrespective of the question being buzzed or
not (team would buzz and write the answer, which would be checked.
answer would pass normally there on)
Venkatesh and Shubham were in great form, and duly won with some
hiccups provided at the end. Yahoo (Udupa, Ajay) were 2nd ( i think),
Anustup + Harish 3rd, after a tie with Prasad (who really gave it a go
in the last buzzer set getting 4/6 right!)+Guna. Self, Gopal+JK,
tanmay+, etc made up the numbers from 4-8

It was a pleasure to do a 36 question elims and then a nice, long quiz
(though some of the questions appeared really long winded, & maybe all
these questions need not all be on a buzzer. bear in mind, this did
ensure in a way that every body had a chance on all questions). if
only the event could be held tightly and within time slots.

all in all, a great way to spend the evening. hope more institutions
engage such afficionados.
