When I posted my message I wasn't trying to put down Kings Quest or I
wasn't trying to say QFG was just an adventure game. I was trying to
reason the justification for 'Just Adventure' to label the QfG series an
RPG instead of an adventure game on the grounds of the DragonFire demo
and prejudice to the game in comparison to other games reviewed in 'Just
Adventure'. I completely argree that it mixes both genres but to be
excluded..... no.... maybe if they could justify their dicision, I would
be content but to this date they haven't mailed me back ..

So you know I'm going to directly contact www.justadventure.com
immediately after this message is sent and set the record straight.
It is a adventure game and an rpg combined just as Ravi stated. It's
what makes the series "a diamond in the ruff." The game has to be
rated in both categories and rated in both categories and not excluded
from one and then by the same reasoning as the other excluded,
excluded. Statement Finished.

this is kinda important because of anyone, they should be supporting

Anyone remember the QFG vs. KQ debate that raged on the Sierra message
boards last year? That had a few hundred posts and had finally killed. I of
course always thought QFG won, we did have more people in our favor and
better points :) That was before they started cracking down on people for
little or no apparent reason, the reason I stopped going. I definitly don't
want to start another of those, it was like a religious war or something,
everyone thought the other side was completley wrong and that they themselves
were absoulutley right because of close-mindedness and ignorance. Anyway,
the debate would be a bit one sided on a QFG mailing list :)

I, too, consider it more adventure game than RPG game (although it *is*
RPG, too).
About your RPG name issue, don't forget that it's worse with the name
"adventure". Quake is an adventure game, Tomb Raider is an adventure game,
soon all games will be adventure games. Yeah, you know, you *adventure* in
them. Like, wow. What an idea.

I too tend to find that the people at JustAdventure are a little tunnel
visioned, but I still like the site. And I have read the review on the
Anthology. they rated it on the basis of the DF demo and I found that
totally inappropriate.
QfG came out of the Adventure scene at Sierra back in the late 80's, but
it had elements of an RPG, so I consider it primarily an Adventure.
But when you think about it, an RPG by it's name alone can be anything,
even a Quake game... you are playing the role of a character, plot or no
plot you are playing the role of a character... especially in adventure
games KQ games put you in the role of such and such a person.
I guess what I'm getting from the people at JustAdventure is that they
think QfG is a copy cat of KQ. And it's not, it took what KQ did and
added new elements to it. Then KQ8 comes along and they behold it as the
Second Coming, when what they've done is taken elements from QfG and
added to it.
Now don't get me wrong, I love both series equally, and when it comes
down to it believe in what I just stated... I don't think there should be
a big fight over which is better though, those only end in harsh
bickering and fan fueds.

The following message is from The Marketing Manager for Team Dragon Fire. I
will be trying to respond to many of the emails that were sent to the
qfg@... account directly over the next week prior to closing the
account.
---
Firstly, allow me to apologize for the huge delay in responding
to your email. As you know, Dragon Fire is closer and closer to
shipping, and combined with the company releasing another hit title
recently (SWAT 2), the Quest team (or anyone else) just haven't had the time
to respond to all the questions and emails coming in. In fact, we are so
stretched right now that we are going to close down this email account
(qfg@...) and we'd like you to use the web site
(http://www.qg5.com) and message boards to continue the dialogue and get
updates. We will be using the web site email addresses and message boards
for all future updates on the game, so please start using those areas.
We'll make sure that the developers get up onto the message board at least
once a week and you'll see a major overhaul and design update on the web
site very soon. Thanks again for supporting Quest for Glory, we want to play
this game just as badly as you do, and it's a shame we don't have the time
to answer every question that comes our way.
Good luck out there!

the beauty of QFG is that it is both an rpg combined with an adventure
game.
in previous games, the adventure element was more dominant probably,
and now they have to make the RPG and action, and multiplayer elements
more dominant to sell the game.
after all it does need new fans.
so now QFGV is being billed as an Action/RPG rather than an adventure
game.
but never fear, it will still be an adventure game.
btw, about kq8, it seems like a clone of some other game. i dont think
it will bring anything new to the gaming industry.

Okay this might have been brought up before but it's for my knowledge
more or less...
What is the Quest for Glory series?
Is DragonFire a RPG or and adventure game?
Ques for Glory 1 (Hero's Quest) was acclaimed as 'Computer Gaming Worlds
- Adventure Game of the Year' when it came out all those years ago.....
so now how can it be otherwise then an adventure game?
I had a little discussion with one of the boys down at 'Just
Adventure'(www.justadventure.com) about not previewing DragonFire but
other games of equal or even less integrity and he came to the
conclusion that DragonFire was a RPG and not a true adventure game and
that the game wasn't his type anyway... hmm is this the kind of attitude
you want from a so-called game reveiwer?
I then sent a long email back pointing out the 'Adventure Game of the
Year' status and the fact that they reviewed KQ8!.... Now by my
reasoning... KQ has fighting now and that was one of the things that
this guy was complaining about.... typical hack 'n' slash RPG .... spfar
he has yet to contact me back..... no credibilty...
Please goto Just Adventure and read what they say about the review on
the Quest for Glory Anthology (I thought qfg was RPG?!) and then read
the archived letter by Lori Cole... Send them your thoughts... This is
the only way DragonFire is going to get the publicity it needs, not a
cold shoulder.....

I completely disagree with the rules.... I think they are far too harsh

sounds like good base rules to be followed.. well done!

Thanks. I failed to proofread the rules before sending it so some parts
don't make sense, I think there's a part bewteen rule four and five where
it says that 'these are the only four main rules' then I go on to add
number 5. Number 5 is meant to be one of the primary rules, I added it
later and put it in at the wrong place. And most of the rules I adopted
from other lists I use, with a little revision etc... What's important
is that we have a set of rules now.
If you need a copy of the rules, or wish to see any revisions I might
make in the future, go to www.findmail.com/list/qfg/ that is where our
archive is, I have the rules posted there also.
And Justin, I do agree that swearing is something that even the most
decent Heroes do, it's an oops that happens to everyone. Heck, I swear
when I hit my thumb with a hammer, or even when my car won't start when
I'm in a hurry, or when my car stalls in the middle of the road, or when
my car gets a flat, or when my car... well you get the idea. But if
Heroes were to use a mailing list, they would have more control over what
they write rather than just blurting something out and tend not to swear.
= )
So basically, just try not to break the rules. = )

These are reasonable rules, and I agree that this is a respectful family
like environment and I will obey these rules. I sure hope I don't do
anything by accident, like I've been known to do :-) cause I love this list.
About the heros not doing any bad things like this, I gotta dissagree
because I'm sure even good heros swear from time to time, it's just human
nature. If I were caught by a tribe and hung from my ankles upside down, I'd
be pretty ticked, myself. Anyway, gotta go. Cya fellow hero wannabe's!

Ok people! These are the official rules for the Circle of Heroes, these
rules have been long overdue, but here they are:
*****Keep this message for future reference!*****
The list is loosely moderated with only five *absolutely*
enforced rules...
1) *NO* flames!!! We're going to disagree from time to time and that's
fine, but there's no need to get personal. If you disagree with
someone's opinion, feel free to state your
own...keeping in mind that *opinions*, by their very nature,
can't be right or wrong...they just *are*. And try to separate the
person from the opinion. You may feel that a person's *opinion* is
stupid, but please don't call the *person* stupid. I'm sure that we're
all mature enough to find a more diplomatic way to say things.
Flaming will result in a warning from me. Further infractions will
result in removal from the list.
2) *NO* posting of copyrighted materials!!!! (unless you have permission,
of course) Believe me...it's not worth the trouble it can cause.
Posting of copyrighted material will result in a *strong* warning from
me. And, depending on the nature of the violation, possible removal from
the list *without* further infractions. When in doubt *ask* me. If I
say no...then don't post it. If I say yes...fine. Then if there's any
problem, it's on *my* head and the list will be spared.
3) If a post *specifically* states that it is not to be forwarded to
other lists or other people, that request is to be honored.
It is generally acceptable to forward information from this list to other
lists, newsgroups and individuals. However, on occasion, a source will
*specifically* state that the information that they are giving us is to
go no further than the list. In order to protect the individuals
involved, we will *not* pass such information along.
Also, on occasion, we will hear *rumors* that have not been confirmed.
If it is stated in the post that the rumors are to go no further than the
list, then they will go no further. This is to avoid starting campaigns
directed towards inappropriate individuals which may cause ill-will and
may hurt us in the long run.
If an indivdual has been discovered to be forwarding posts that
*explicitly* state that they are for our eyes only, it will be considered
grounds for removal from the list. Depending upon the severity of the
violation, there may or may not be a warning given first.
4) *NO* obscenities! The Circle of Heroes is *NOT* the place for it!
Quest for Glory is a family oriented program and this is a family
oriented list. We have *many* youthful members, several of whom
subscribe via their parent's internet accounts. We will not be a
corrupting influence. Using obsenities on the list will result in a
warning from me. Further infractions will result in removal from the
list.
Appropriate use of the "sacred asterisk" can avoid some problems in this
area.
In addition to rule number four, while not considered obscenities, please
refrain from using ALL CAPS. It is considered yelling. If you are
trying to emphasise a word then you may use CAPS *just for that word.*
Or put it in asterisks as I just demonstrated. Using all caps is not
grounds for removal, but if I get complaints it will result in a warning
and possibly a temporary removal.
Those are the only four hard and fast rules. Everything else is sorta
kinda flexible...but I always have the final say.
and...
5) Absolutely under no circumstances may you post unsolicited
advertisements or spams, nor may you provide addresses from this list to
spam lists. The service we use for the mailing list has a strict policy
on this and legal action may be pursued if it is revealed that you
provided such information. The entire list may be shut down.
So just don't do it, okay.
The Circle of Heroes is a place to have fun, and besides, Heroes don't do
bad stuff like the things mentioned above. This is a place for the few,
the proud, the true Heroes.
Try to stay on topic...but if you think about it, that covers a lot of
ground. If you absolutely, positively *have* to post something off
topic, to insert an 'OT:' (Off Topic) prefix at the beginning of the
message. On occasion, there may be something that you're so excited
about or a bit of personal news that you just can't contain and you'll
feel the irrisistable urge to post it. I hope that we'll all be friends,
so we'll probably be interested. An 'OT:' will help pacify those that
*aren't* interested. I'm sure that we can all think of something
thoughtful to say about the series at any given moment (I know *I* can
:-) ). If a thread wanders off topic for *too* long, I'll kill it...but
I try to let them die a natural death whenever possible. If a thread
gets beaten to death...I reserve the right to kill it *after* a
sufficient number of list members has complained to me either on-list or
privately (if you don't want to complain on-list). However, I'm not
going to let any one person dictate when a topical thread should be
killed, myself included.
In short, I'll try to keep my hands off as much as possible...just keep
in mind that I'm always here. But, hey! I wanna have fun too, so I'm
gonna try to not make this feel like work for myself (been there...done
that...don't like it...)
For those of you who can't handle the traffic that individual posts
generate, there is a digest version of the list. If you would like to
subscribe to the digest please contact me at <connormaclyrr@...> and
I will take care of it!

I'm starting to get confused about the release date. The official website
still says mid September. Someone told me they saw the release date as
October 31, and Ravi's web page says 63 days. What's the story with the
release date?
