Thank you Andrew,

I am used to working with API kits from when I worked in the computer
field.
This should help to point me in the right direction. Thou if I get
stuck again I will yell... ;)

I must say that I am greatly pleased at how helpful and willing everyone
is to help someone with this.
It is greatly refreshing. I did read over the linked help file via the
net.

Thanks again everyone.
I will let you know how the battle goes so when I get the data in safely
we can close this thread.

There is a marvelous class about how to create a race in the documentation
of PCGen. That should get you going. In case you have any specific
questions (I for example do not know what "Armand template" is, so I could
not even start an answer right now) feel free to ask. Either here, or even
better on the lst mailing list (PCGenListFileHelp@yahoogroups.com).

Try to ask in a generic way. Like "how can I set up a feat that grants +2
enhancement bonus to Dexterity".

Hi Mariomcmrpg,

Lst coding questions are best answered on the PCGen LstFileHelp group;
The Docs have an excellent section on how to create your class, race,
feat, etc. and once you've seen the docs, I'd suggest taking a look and
seeing how our data sets are put together.

In order to actually help you, you'll need to be less broad in you
question. Instead of "I want to create X class" try "I'd like to
implement a class that has 1d12 hp, a fighter attack, good will and fort
saves, poor reflex..." or "I need a feat that increases the sneak attack
If I already have levels in rogue".

I've not seen an Armand Class or Template, so I can't do more than point
you to the docs... Wow, just read Susan's post, we're on the same
wavelength.

I wasn't aware that PCGen actually had an installed added to it. I've been using
this dataset straight for about 3-4 full versions. Where would I look up how to
make an installer file? BTW, it works on three game modes. the BoEF game mode
includes support for the appearance ability. I also have it set to work with 35e
and the CMP D&D 3.5 modes

Docs are a great place. The list index 'OOC Install File' is where you
need to look. It has a great tutorial there.

Otherwise you can download one from our website... Plenty to choose from.

Have you equipped it as a Double Weapon? (the other option is to Equip it to
"Both Hands" which doesn't provide exactly the same output.

I don't see anything wrong with the data and I can equip it as a double
weapon.

Hi,

From an earlier post I made:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=25576&package_id=287056&re\

The Out of Cycle Data Sets all include the proper folder tree look and
install file, if you want an actual live copy to play with. Otherwise
our docs cover this in the lst file tag index under the grouping of "OCC

[Admin_SB]Drew: Eddy, I've got 6:30pm
[Chair]Eddy: Yup, let get going
[Chair]Eddy: *bangs gavel*
[Chair]Eddy: I'll start
[Chair]Eddy: Content Report:
[Chair]Eddy: Docs
[Chair]Eddy: Doc Bugs: 0 (0 total, unchanged since last meeting)
[Chair]Eddy: Doc FREQs: 26 for 5.16 (60 total, +1 since last meeting)

[Chair]Eddy: Output Sheets
[Chair]Eddy: OS Bugs: 0 for 5.16 (5, +1 since last meeting)
[Chair]Eddy: OS FREQs: 0 for 5.16 (32 total, unchanged since last meeting)

[Chair]Eddy: Data
[Chair]Eddy: Data Bugs: 3 for 5.16 (28 Total, -2 since last meeting)
[Chair]Eddy: Data FREQs: 3 for 5.16 (114 Total, +12 since last meeting)
[Chair]Eddy: New Source Development: 1 for 5.16 (10 Total, -1 since last
meeting)
[Chair]Eddy: I've seen some commits from Tir but I don't know where they are
at with the Pathfinder wrap up
[Chair]Eddy: other than that Content is ready for the next RC
[Chair]Eddy: questions?
[Admin_SB]Drew: none here
[Arch_SB]thpr: nope
[Chair]Eddy: OK Drew, can you go next?
[Admin_SB]Drew: Sure
[Admin_SB]Drew: I have a slim plate tonight
[Admin_SB]Drew: Web is getting some updates
[Admin_SB]Drew: Trackers are opening and closing at a nice pace
[Admin_SB]Drew: Release is when James gets it out the door; pending some
last minute items....
[Admin_SB]Drew: Otherwise Admin is ready for RC2
[Admin_SB]Drew: Questions?
[PR_SB]Maredudd: None from PR
[Chair]Eddy: none from me
[Admin_SB]Drew: I nominate Tom next....
[Chair]Eddy: let's go to Eric next and save code for last
[PR_SB]Maredudd: K
[PR_SB]Maredudd: PR is easy tonight as we haven't had a lot of activity
there.
[PR_SB]Maredudd: I'm ready for the Press Releases for RC2.
[PR_SB]Maredudd: Any question?
[Admin_SB]Drew: nope
[Chair]Eddy: none from content
[Arch_SB]thpr: no questions from me
[Chair]Eddy: Tom, you're up next
[Arch_SB]thpr: am I up?
[Arch_SB]thpr: ok
[Arch_SB]thpr: Code first: Code has a bug outstanding bugs, but nothing that
is a gate to RC2
[Arch_SB]thpr: a few I think we'd like to clean up before we go final, but
there is some discussion on a few of them on _exp
[Arch_SB]thpr: there has been significant work since RC1, at least 8 bugs
closed by my count
[Arch_SB]thpr: any code questions?
[Admin_SB]Drew: nope
[PR_SB]Maredudd: None from PR
[Arch_SB]thpr: Arch:
[Arch_SB]thpr: some work still exists here to document 5.16, so I'll need to
revisit that before I get fully into 5.17
[Arch_SB]thpr: There is a proposed framework for 5.17:
[Arch_SB]thpr:
http://www.pcgen-test.org/wiki/index.php?title=Architecture_Changes_5.17
[Arch_SB]thpr: However, this is subject to change
[Arch_SB]thpr: pending a more complete discussion about scope of 5.17 once
we have samples of the UI, etc.
[Arch_SB]thpr: oh, back to code for a sec
[Arch_SB]thpr: I created a sandbox/ folder for code "play" branches
[Arch_SB]thpr: this is so we don't pollute "branches" which is better to
hold our release numbered branches
[Arch_SB]thpr: there is now a cdomui folder in sandbox
[Arch_SB]thpr: - and Connor correct me if I'm off here -
cpmeister: no, you are correct
[Arch_SB]thpr: where Connor is going to put his CDOMUI code so he can link
with code more updated to the present Trunk
[Arch_SB]thpr: this was especially important for the enumerations like
ListKey, ObjectKey, etc.
[Arch_SB]thpr: which he needs to be able to draw upon to get the information
displayed by the UI
[Arch_SB]thpr: anything you'd add to that Connor?
[Arch_SB]thpr: I'll take that as no :)
[Arch_SB]thpr: so back to arch
[Arch_SB]thpr: there are some key items that will come up for consideration
around the 5.17 cycle
[Arch_SB]thpr: one of these will be the separator characters for CHOOSE,
which I'll post on to bring that discussion up again
[Arch_SB]thpr: need to make sure people are comfortable reading what the
syntax will end up to be
[Arch_SB]thpr: We should also try to close out the Development Specs
discussion and decide how we're going to run the 5.17 cycle
[Arch_SB]thpr: any questions?
[Chair]Eddy: not here
[Admin_SB]Drew: I'm good
[PR_SB]Maredudd: None here
[Chair]Eddy: On to agenda items then?
[Chair]Eddy: item 1: RC2
[Arch_SB]thpr: I fixed a code bug that James had been concerned about in the
unit tests
[Arch_SB]thpr: (since I created it - oops)
[Arch_SB]thpr: so code is ready if data is ready
[Chair]Eddy: last meeting the plan was to wrap up the last tracker and aim
for making RC2 the last one
[Chair]Eddy: I assume that's still the plan
[Arch_SB]thpr: barring major error reports coming out of an RC2 release
[Chair]Eddy: I need to check with Tir and Stefan but I think we're about
there
[Chair]Eddy: the data stuff isn't major critical stuff
[Admin_SB]Drew: I think PF is good to go
[Admin_SB]Drew: Only tracker is the conditional skills that Tir was
revamping
[Chair]Eddy: Yeah, it's looking pretty good
[Chair]Eddy: I'll shoot them a note and we'll see where we're at
[Admin_SB]Drew: The other bug can get pushed back... Michael said it was
going to take awhile
[Admin_SB]Drew: and it's not PF related
[Chair]Eddy: right, haven't seen any show stoppers
[Chair]Eddy: Anyone have anything for open discussion?
[Arch_SB]thpr: yea I have one
[Admin_SB]Drew: I'm good.
[Chair]Eddy: Me too, wonder if they might be the same thing :-)
[Chair]Eddy: go Tom
[Arch_SB]thpr: following up on
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen_experimental/message/12556
[Arch_SB]thpr: WSIZE is used in a few places
[Arch_SB]thpr: and I could really use someone on the data team looking up
the rules for those
[Arch_SB]thpr: since the docs don't match the code I need to know intent
[Arch_SB]thpr: you can search for WSIZE. in the data
[Arch_SB]thpr: DragonWingGames Fairies
[Arch_SB]thpr: BastionPress Oathbound
[Arch_SB]thpr: Spycraft
[Arch_SB]thpr: MSRD
[Arch_SB]thpr: are the datasets it is used in
[Arch_SB]thpr: I think MSRD is in our content folder
[Arch_SB]thpr: need to know who on our team would have the other 3 sources
[Chair]Eddy: OK, I'll look into that
[Chair]Eddy: I've got all those
[Arch_SB]thpr: thx
[Chair]Eddy: I would like to talk about the data/code tracker reconciliation
[Chair]Eddy: see if we can get on the same page as far as a plan of action
[Arch_SB]thpr: ok
[Chair]Eddy: I had thought that for the data tracker that need code work we
would open code trackers once there was a plan
[Arch_SB]thpr: I would prefer to see code trackers for all pending work
[Arch_SB]thpr: even before a solution is architected
[Chair]Eddy: But I gathered from recent posts that what you would like is to
open code trackers for all the data tracker right now
[Arch_SB]thpr: yea, that way if two things are related we can tackle them at
once
[Chair]Eddy: right, so we have a pair right from the start
[Arch_SB]thpr: that's my ideal
[Chair]Eddy: OK, just wanted to get that verified
[Chair]Eddy: I got no problem with that
[PR_SB]Maredudd: Let me add that a Doc tracker should also be opened if the
changes will drive a doc change.
[Arch_SB]thpr: wouldn't you want that only after the change is in?
[Arch_SB]thpr: vs. having a backlog of 250+ doc trackers you can't
implement?
[PR_SB]Maredudd: The tracker can be opened but left until the appropriate
code tracker is completed.
[Admin_SB]Drew: A pending doc tracker that he can work on in secret?
[Chair]Eddy: So at this point I now have a number of P3 and lower trackers,
so that means I have an immediate job of opening code tracker for these
[Arch_SB]thpr: Eddy: yes
[Arch_SB]thpr: and we need about 250 doc trackers for all the code trackers
that are prio 2 or 3
[Chair]Eddy: Question: what setting for the code trackers: Unscheduled? What
Priority?
[Arch_SB]thpr: assuming I'm understanding Eric correctly
[Arch_SB]thpr: Unscheduled, yes
[Arch_SB]thpr: Prio should be 3
[Chair]Eddy: OK
[Arch_SB]thpr: Eric: am I understanding you correctly?
[Arch_SB]thpr: even before you know what a token name will be you want a
placeholder tracker?
[Chair]Eddy: And of course we link the two trackers
[Arch_SB]thpr: Eddy: yes
[PR_SB]Maredudd: Yep.
[Arch_SB]thpr: I'm concerned that's overkill
[Chair]Eddy: I agree
[PR_SB]Maredudd: Ok. maybe we open a Doc tracker when we know what the
solutio is . . .:-)
[Arch_SB]thpr: that I agree with
[Chair]Eddy: I think that the way to go
[Admin_SB]Drew: I think Eric wants the tracker once something has been
spec'd
[Arch_SB]thpr: and actually plays well into using the dev specs
[Arch_SB]thpr: since the closing of the dev spec can mean 2 things
[Arch_SB]thpr: 1) code freq goes up in priority
[Arch_SB]thpr: 2) open doc tracker
[Arch_SB]thpr: assuming we choose to use dev specs...
[Arch_SB]thpr: I'm not sure that consensus has been reached on that topic
[Chair]Eddy: should we talk about the dev specs?
[Chair]Eddy: we're talking about using a tracker right?
[Arch_SB]thpr: eys
[Admin_SB]Drew: I thought we did reach a consensus?
[Arch_SB]thpr: that was supposed to be yes
[Admin_SB]Drew: Dev Spec tracker - Wiki for details
[Chair]Eddy: I'm thinking the data/code trackers will be enough as far as
trackers go
[Arch_SB]thpr: you're comfortable that you can wrangle the conversations on
_experimental just based on the category in the FREQ list?
[Arch_SB]thpr: because it's driving that focused discussion that concerns me
- I'm afraid things will linger for a while
[Arch_SB]thpr: and having a smaller list will help people understand the
scope of what's left for a given release
[Chair]Eddy: but can't you do that with the data/code trackers?
[Chair]Eddy: we decide what in the current scope and set them to that
[Arch_SB]thpr: you have to filter by Group, then look at what is prio 2 or 3
[Chair]Eddy: the list is then all the "For 5.18" set to P3
[Arch_SB]thpr: can be done, just SF doesn't let you limit the prio, it's
only sorted by that
[Arch_SB]thpr: if you're comfortable without, let's go without
[Arch_SB]thpr: just remember it has to be done with the code trackers
[Arch_SB]thpr: not just the data trackers
[Chair]Eddy: I'm fine without, not a big deal if more people think it would
be useful
[Arch_SB]thpr: since there may be code trackers that aren't dependent on our
data
[Arch_SB]thpr: looks like you and I are the strong opinions, Eddy, so let's
do without unless it starts to cause a problem
[Chair]Eddy: For those trackers, will a discussion at experimental be
appropriate?
[Arch_SB]thpr: for which trackers?
[Chair]Eddy: I mean if it's the GUI or something internal
[Arch_SB]thpr: in theory it's prio 2 if it needs arch work
[Chair]Eddy: stuff not directly related to data
[Arch_SB]thpr: I'll to back and tag the ones that are code with a [CODE]
prefix
[Arch_SB]thpr: and we own putting those on -devel
[Chair]Eddy: right
[Chair]Eddy: OK, so here's the next question:
[Arch_SB]thpr: I'd note there's a bug on SF right now that may prevent me
from making those changes on all the relevant FREQs
[Arch_SB]thpr: so it may be a bit before that's fully clean
[Chair]Eddy: once we pair up all the trackers and we have a final list of P3
stuff we need discussed, how do we prioritize? or is that pretty much the
feature scope discussion?
[Arch_SB]thpr: that's the feature scope discussion
[Chair]Eddy: got it
[Arch_SB]thpr: what I've been doing as I see stuff come into prio 3 is
typing up a spec
[Arch_SB]thpr: with some options, on the Wiki
[Arch_SB]thpr: if they're easy, we'll definitely get them into 5.17
[Arch_SB]thpr: the harder ones I may not type a spec up immediately, and
those are the core of the feature scope discussion
[Chair]Eddy: Alright, that answers my questions, anyone got anything related
to this?
[Admin_SB]Drew: Looks good.
[Chair]Eddy: Anything else for open discussion?
[Admin_SB]Drew: I'm good
[PR_SB]Maredudd: Not from me.
[Arch_SB]thpr: I'm set
[Chair]Eddy: OK, it's a wrap everyone, thanks for coming :-)
[Chair]Eddy: *bangs gavel*

It says that the minimum version is 5.14. That explains a few things if this
addition is that recent. I'm still using 5.12 since the CMP datasets are still
geared up for that version and 5.14 doesn't calculate will saves with 5.12
datasets.

The Minver is for the file to check against the version of PCGen.

IIRC we did implement this around 5.14.

You can upgrade the CMP sets up to 5.14 fairly easy with Barak's Perl
Script. Beyond 5.14 we have an automatic converter Tom has worked on to
maintain compatibility 5.16 forward.

Can you provide more information on: "5.14 doesn't calculate will saves with
5.12 datasets" - what steps are required to produce the issue?

I think the problem is a different name. If I remember correctly (I do not
own the datasets) CMP chose Willpower whereas the SRD datasets chose Will
to be the name of the save, or vice versa (I'm too lazy to look it up).

Got it running in Vista 64 by reinstalling most recent Java. But again won't
save. Console gave some of this.

java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Program
Files\PCGen\PCGen5141\characters\Lusur.pcg (Access is denied)
at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method)
at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)

followed by about 60-70 lines that all end with (Unknown Source). Wouldn't let
me copy paste the entire thing in. Also tried installing abosultely newest Java
but no change.

Hm, interesting. We need to open a bug report then.

Also, permissions to directories is an issue IIRC for vista.

My directories are not the standard. Try changing the save directory and
see if that has any effect.

Can you post the majority of the error msg so the coders can see it please.

Thanks,

-Andrew

Yeah, that sounds like it. We did rename Willpower to Will a few
versions back to match the correct terminology.

Barak's script should fix that.

Ummm... CMP data has used "Will" for years... we were the ones that had it
brought to our attention by Malhavoc that it was Will and not Willpower when
we submitted a dataset for their approval. CMP switched almost immediately
after that.

So no, my script won't affect that. :p

Ah, man... I was building it up to be the uber script and you shot it down.

We really should get the script up on SF. or at least a link to it.

As I understand it, the move from PCGen v 5.8 to 5.10 is where the
change occurred in PCGen . . .

Of course, this was before my time, which started with 5.10 . . .

I was looking to see if this enhancement was ever requested but could not find
it.

I've noticed over several versions (5.8 to 5.16), the .pdf outputs do not allow
more than 3 weapons to appear on the first page even though plenty of space is
available.

If someone has an output sheet they have modified to do this, please post the
file.

Thanks!

Here is the path file that I needed before. With each new Java version, I've
had to update the Path.

Here's what worked for Vista x64:

PCGen should be installed in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder

The .bat command line in the .bat file needs to be changed and should be:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\java" -Dswing.aatext=true -Xms128m
-Xmx256m -jar pcgen.jar

The path in the system\advanced properties\... should be:
;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin
Then Restart the computer, because that is ultimately what reset the path...

Using the .bat file then works.

You do not need to enter the command in the command prompt manually.

Thanks for all of the help!!!!

I look forward to continued use of PCGen!!!!

Sean

Hm, interesting. We need to open a bug report then.

Also, permissions to directories is an issue IIRC for vista.

My directories are not the standard. Try changing the save directory and
see if that has any effect.

Can you post the majority of the error msg so the coders can see it please.

   Thanks,

   -Andrew
