Try reading the docs that downloaded with PCGen. They should include
some classes on how to make your own datasets.

I created custom lists for my character in an earlier version of
PCGEN. I created a character class, skills and special abilities.
When I load my character in the newest version of PCGEN but the custom
information will not load. I checked the readme file in the
PCGen\PCGen5101\data\customsources folder. The readme states, "If you
copy <old_dir/>data/customsources/custom*.lst to
<new_dir/>data/customsources/custom*.lst, you _should_ retain all
your custom edits. However, you may still need to run the Lst
Converter (on the toolbar under tools) on the old files (which you
would need to do BEFORE loading any sources)...". However, the LST
Convertor is not under Tools or anywhere else I can see. I'd REALLY
like to avoid having to recreate the information so any help would be
appreciated.

How would I go about altering the way PCGen handles epic BAB and save
progression? I'd like to change it so that the progression is the
same as with sub-epic levels... fighters +1 BAB every level, clerics
3/4 BAB per level, wizards 1/2 BAB per level. And similarly for saves.

Clearly, monster HD already does this, but how do I get class levels
to do it as well?

PCGen - Who does what?
Last Edited: January 27, 2006

You'll quickly notice the PCGen has a Monkey theme. Bryan McRoberts chose "Chief
Code Monkey" as his title when he first made PCGen available to the public, and
later adopted the title of Benevolent Dictator. Other teams formed to focus on
different aspects of PCGen, and all have taken to referring to themselves as
Monkeys. In the documentation provided with PCGen and in the About box of the
actual software we try to list everyone who has contributed to PCGen in
chronological order.

Ranks
-----

In keeping with the Monkey theme a ranking system has evolved as a way to
express appreciation and confer status to those who have contributed their time
and energy to the project. The highest rank is that of Silverback, the
Silverbacks are the leaders of the teams that make up the PCGen project and hold
seats on the Board of Directors. The Silverbacks have a 2nd for each sub team.
Promoting Monkeys is generally the privilege of the teams Silverback. The ranks
are (in decreasing order) 2nd, Chimp, Gibbon, Tamarin, Lemur. The rank of Lemur
is conferred when a volunteer first contributes something useful (whether it be
large or small to the project).

Joining the project
-------------------

PCGen is an Open Source Software Initiative and as such relies entirely on the
efforts of many volunteers. The project is always in need of more volunteers, if
you would like to join we would love to have you. The easiest way to join is to
post a message to the pcgen with the subject of "I want to help" and you will be
contacted by a Tracker Monkey and asked what area you would like to contribute
to. You may also contact the Silverback of a team you are interested in joining
directly. A list of the Silverbacks can be found in the BoD

Here's a primer on what each team does:

Code Monkeys
------------

This team works on the java code, fixing Bugs and developing FREQs.

Content Monkeys (Data Monkeys/Docs Monkeys/OS Monkeys)
------------------------------------------------------

Content encompasses Data, Documentation, Output Sheets and other non-java code
project files.

* Data Monkeys (LST Monkeys)

This team works on the data for all the books you load in PCGen. They help
answer data questions at the PCGenListFileHelp. They have pcgen_experimental
group where they actually work on the different books we're trying to get into
PCGen.

* Documentation Monkeys

This team works on the Documentation, this is a massive effort combing How To
guides, Data and OS tags, FAQ and much, much more.

* Output Sheet Monkeys (OS Monkeys)

This team works on the output sheets which are used to export to character
sheets in PCGen. These templates involve xml, xsl and html.

Admin Monkeys (Tracker Monkeys/Release Monkeys)
-----------------------------------------------

This is the team that administers the project as a whole. They amongst other
things monitor the pcgen yahoo site and consist of two sub teams

* Tracker Monkeys

Prioritize all Trackers and provide assistance to all teams in a co-ordination
role.

* Release Monkeys

This team gathers all the elements and compiles the code to create the packages
that are released to the public.

Public Relations Monkeys (PL Monkeys/OGL Monkeys/Advertising Monkeys)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

* Publisher Liaison Monkeys

This team servers as the contact for all the Publishers. This way all contact
with Publishers can be more easily managed and consistent.

* OGL Monkeys

This team is named after the Open Gaming License that made the popularity of
3e/3.5e possible. This team makes sure that all material included in PCGen meets
any license requirements (not just the OGL).

* Advertising Monkeys

This team deals with PCGen's advertising budget and where and when the
advertising should occur.

That should just about cover it!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PCGEN - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING!
Last Updated: Jan 30, 2006

When will 3.5e be supported in PCGen?
-------------------------------------

3.5e is supported in PCGen since version 5.6. Since PCGen is OGL compliant, we
refer to 3.5e as RSRD (Revised System Resource Document) that is the free
version of the core 3.5e books that Wizards of the Coast produces. In the
"Settings" menu of PCGen, select the "Game Mode" menu item and you'll see how
you can switch between game modes like 3.5e and 3e. Depending upon which Game
Mode you're in, the list of books you can load will vary. We created a Game Mode
for 3.5e because there are a number of rules differences between it and 3e.

Where are Wizard's of the Coast's books and modules?
----------------------------------------------------

Those are handled under a special license by the gang at Code Monkey Publishing

Where are the Star Wars/Call of Cthulhu/Wheel of Time files?
------------------------------------------------------------

Even though Wizards of the Coast produces those books, they don't own exclusive
rights to that material. We'll need to get permission from both Wizards and the
other copyright owner(s) of said material before we can include them in PCGen.
It is our intention to acquire this permission, but we're being very careful
about how we proceed to maximize our chance of success. We'll keep everyone
informed when anything worthy of reporting occurs. :)

PCGen is OGL (Open Gaming License)
----------------------------------

Versions 4.0.0 through 4.3.12 were D20 compliant - this compliance was dropped
with version 5.0 because we wanted to better support publishers who were not D20
compliant.

Thanks!
Bryan McRoberts (Benevloent Dicatator) and Martijn Verburg (Chair Monkey)

Anyway, here's my question. Is there anyone out there working on

description.

Are you guys looking for any "Data Entry Clerk" people? If so i'd love

Most of the descriptions are kept simple - like one simple line, so that
the source book is needed to understand the full meaning. I know it's
explained somewhere around here in more detail, but as I understand it,
this is to allow the end user to enjoy a complete character sheet and
know what abilities they have, but it keeps the mechanics and details
firmly in the source books, so if you like what you see, you'll purchase
the source book. It's a win-win situation as they say. PCGen is allowed
to make data sets for these wonderful source books (Different
publishers), and it in turns promotes the different source books.

Now with that said, you can .MOD all the descriptions to as much or as
little detail for your PERSONAL use.

I hope that helps. I'm sure Kar would love another soul for the soul jar
if you are still interested in helping out.

Well, i think i've found my first bug that's worth reporting. Not sure
how to go about this, so i'l do my best.

I was making a custom set of armor a few minutes ago, and... well i'l
let it explain itself.

Padded AC Bonus (Deflection) (+3/Landing/+5/Quickness/Wild)
Deflection bonus to armor class of +3, wearer takes no damage from the
first 60' of a fall; target lands on feet no matter the distance
of a fall, armor adds 5' to wearer's movement, preserve armor
and enhancment bonus while in wild shape

Now i'm not sure, but i think what's happening here is that every time
it tries to imput a ' for "Feet", it messes up and puts in this '

Did i do good?

It is a Java app that works anywhere the JRE runs which includes quite a
few different distributions for Linux.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for volunteering!

Now for the hard part. I hand you over to Frank (our content lead)
who will send you a stack of information about what it is to be a
data/content monkey. If it still sounds like something you want to do
then all you need to do is get yourself a sourceforge user account,
email that to me and I'll add you to the project!

Oh and of course you get paid in bananas like everyone else :-)

It works fine with Ubuntu, but you will need to install Sun's JRE. I
think EasyUbuntu has this as one of the install options so you might
look into that after you get Ubuntu installed.

I find that PCGen works fine with IBM's JRE, too. I've used IBM's JRE on both
RHEL3 and Gentoo with PCGen with no significant problems.

Hi all.
I'm starting a new campaign and I was trying to put into practice
something like "package deals", used in Hero System. In essence, you
spend a certain amount of skill points, and you abtaing a little more
of them though in a fixed and linked manner.

For example, I have a Package deal called "Port labourer" by which you
get 2 points in User Rope, Swim, Profession(Sailor), Knowledge
(local), Survival (Natural Hazards) for 7 points.

I don't know how to implement this in PCGEn. If I make it a template,
I only get skill bonus, not real skill ranks. If I make it a Starting
kit, I would get a waring that I won't be able to buy all the skills.

In both cases, I'll have to tweak skill points manually.

Any suggestions?

Ciao, Marcello

If you use a kit you can set certain of the skills

   Subject: [pcgen] "Package Deals" anyone?

Hello,

I've noticed that the nice D20 Modern PDF export gubbins includes the
Allegiances "box" but I can't find how to get the allegiance data into
a .pcg file. Is the current intention that we scribble the allegiances
down on a print using a pencil? Or is there a way to store the info so
that the PDF export can collect it?

Thanks in advance,

Yeah, i guess that's all good info i should have included.

I'm using PcGen 5.10.1, and i've got 4 different java version's in
my java directory,
j2re1.4.2_03
jdk1.5.0_06
jre1.5.0_03
jre1.5.0_06

I'm not sure which of those is my java version.

As far as where i'm seing the bug, it's in the preview tab, when I
export to PDF on any output sheet, it doesn't happen.

I'm fairly certain that they've got their store back online now. They can be
found at: http://www.codemonkeypublishing.biz now.

Have you read through the documentation that comes with the PCGen distribution?

I'm afraid I can't offer you another solution at the time. The field
in the sheet is meant to be penciled in.

The only other option you currently have would be to write your
allegiances in a Character Sheet Note that you can create on the
Description tab.

We're currently discussing a specification for a new tag that will
allow us to take user input, which would let us deal with this
problem, but better don't hold your breath waiting for that.
