Depends... :p

If you want actively working on OS content, no.

If you want "available to answer questions", then I should be on the chimp
list.

Subject: [BUG] BONUS:FEAT|POOL
barak20021

There seems to be a bug with the BONUS:FEAT|POOL tag (at least in 5.8.1, I
don't have the latest set up to test it against).

When you have that tag in a file and it gets applied everything happens as
it should at that point (this is for our traits and flaws code for UA).
However, when you advance your character to the next level where they are
granted a feat point to spend (say 3rd from first) it apparently gets
applied again and you get two feat at 3rd level instead of just the 1 that
you should (if you've selected one flaw... You get three when you've
selected two flaws :p).

Could we get this trackered to be fixed for 5.10 if it isn't already?

I remember this wonky behavior, I'm pretty sure it's been fixed in the 5.9.x
line. Could you check against 5.9.7?

As stated in the roadmap and confirmed by our favorite chair person, we will
release 5.9.8 Beta this weekend. The commit will be frozen starting

Sunday the 2nd of April, at 10:00 AM EST (15:00 GMT)

If you commit between now and the freeze deadline, make extra sure you do not
break the build or the Junit tests. As of now (revision 559), the build is
working but there is on Junit test that fail (pcgen.persistence.lst)

Important note for the 5.10 roadmap
===================================

Please make sure that you reference the tracker number when you commit stuff.
It's very hard to do some control or QA if we have only a one description of
what you are doing. At this point in the process, ONLY THE P7+ TRACKER SHOULD
RESULT IN CODE COMMITTED. The only exception to this are the documentation
changes (no impact on the stability of PCGen) and the Alpha data directory
(won't be officially included in the stable release).

If there is no tracker or you think the tracker priority is not high enough,
contact your SB ASAP to rectify the situation BEFORE committing files. At this
point of the process, only the SB and their second have the authority to raise
the priority of a tracker.

Please understand that this is not senseless red tape. We have a very tight
schedule to deliver a stable product. We are committed on a specific roadmap and
need to stick to it. I thank you for you collaboration on this.

Tir's correct.

If the character in question has a selected (Known) discipline power
(a subclass in pcgen) then the error pops up at load time. But after
load the Spells tab has it correctly.

Barak, you're a Chimp. To me, Data rank (other than the BoD positions of SB and
2nd) refer to ability and being around in any capacity. It's not a role; it is
a recognized skill level. :)

You are still welcome to work on the OS content if you want, you know. :p

Ah, ok. Chimp then. :)

I know. I enjoyed doing the Dragon Disciple way back when (last thing I did
IIRC), but RL has surged up in the last year or so to leave me with only
enough time to kibbitz from the edges. Hopefully someday things will slow
down a bit more and I can get more involved again.

Though after my last "into it" binge and the hell we put Felipe and others
through churning out the necessary bits for the weapons blocks there may be
some that would prefer I remain on the edges. :p

Welcome!

http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/pytw/#Welcome

* What is PCGen?

PCGen is a character generator and maintenance program aimed at supporting any
RPG material we can get our hands on. Currently our focus is on material
released under the Open Gaming License (OGL). A secondary goal is to support as
many houserules as possible. PCGen is meant to be easy to modify to suit your
own campaign, and users are encouraged to share their creations. Also see
http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/pytw/#PCGen.

* Where is Wotc's non-SRD material?

The System Resource Document (SRD) can be found at:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35
The SRD used to be 3e material, and the 3.5e material was referred to as the
RSRD (Revised SRD). Recently Wizards dropped the 3e SRD and 'promoted' the RSRD
to be the sole SRD. The original SRD was a subset of what's in the PHB, DMG, MM
and PsiHB. The RSRD-now-SRD contains that as well as subsets of ELH, D&Dg and
MotP. The non-SRD material (Defenders of the Faith, Sword and Fist, Forgotten
Realms, Dark Sun, etc. are all TM of Wizards of the Coast) requires a special
license and is available from the folks at http://www.codemonkeypublishing.com
Also see http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/pytw/#State_O_PCGen

* Will PCGen include everything that it can?

We sure plan on it! It takes a lot of time to complete the data for a book, but
it's time well spent. :) We ask publishers for their permission before we
include anything, and those of you who are familiar with the OGL know that this
formality isn't required. However, we at PCGen wish to be courteous to the
publishers and respect their wishes - if a publisher doesn't want us to include
their material (or just a specific book) then we won't include it. As long as
we comply with the OGL we could legally include anything that is OGL without
needing the publisher's permission, but that goes against the long-standing
policy we've had for PCGen.

* For D20 and OGL Games Publishers:

Please read our OpenLetter to all D20 Games Publishers at:
http://pcgen.sourceforge.net/docs/openletter.html
We'd love to convert your material for use with PCGen. We have a publisher
liason team who are the ones to contact about getting your material into PCGen.
They're also the team that will seek you out about getting your permission, and
will send you the files for your approval before we include it in a production
release. If you have anything declared as product identity, we can mark it
clearly as such within PCGen or not include it. This is a free way for your
material to get widespread use without without giving out so much detail that
purchasing the material is no longer necessary. Email us or post on our yahoo
message board if you'd like more information.
Also see http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/pytw/#Publishers

* Where are the official releases of PCGen?

Currently PCGen is released at http://pcgen.sourceforge.net/

* How often are releases?

We try to put out an alpha or a beta release every two weeks. We put out a
production release whenever we reach a significant milestone in terms of
functionality and we certify that the release is stable after rigorous testing.

* What does the Board of Directors of PCGen do?

A few people have asked about the Board of Directors (BoD) and their role in
PCGen, so I thought I'd try to come up with a short and sweet explanation.

The BoD is a group that brings together the leaders of every team (Code, Data,
Docs, Publisher Liason, OGL/Licenses, Output Sheets etc) to make sure that
inter-group communications are working. It also decides on general policies to
guide the project in general. One example is that we discussed and decided to
drop d20 compliance for PCGen. We also discuss what kinds of requirements we
might have on any 3rd party group that would want to claim compliance with
PCGen. Another issue is where to host data - the preferred place is in the
official releases, but there are a couple of situations that would preclude that
from happening: if a publisher wants to host the data themselves and not include
it in an official release (we'd require that the data be free) or if a special
license was required then the publisher or some other site that was compatible
with that license would need to host the data - in all circumstances the data
would be free. The BoD also discusses any key issues for each group - like "What
does the data team need from any of the other teams to finish off book X?". The
BoD does not assign anyone to book X or to fix the bugs/features related to that
book. The BoD simply helps facilitate discussion between the teams so the team
leads can then decide who they want to assign to those tasks. This is a
volunteer project, so someone who is assigned to something doesn't have to do
it, but hopefully the volunteer will tackle it out of a desire to see book X
completed, or out of pity for the team lead! :)

This is an open source project, and as a community project, this means that
everyone is giving their time and talent to improve a product for the entire
PCGen audience. The BoD helps direct the project by providing groundrules and
policies to keep things running smoothly. In return for the volunteer's aid and
compliance with those policies, the BoD promises to make it's policies
transparent and fair as possible. This way there are no surprises for anyone on
any team. The BoD recognizes that it's policies aren't perfect, and is very
willing to accept suggestions!

Also see http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/pytw/#BoD

* When will you support my favorite book?
We try to get everything in that we can as quickly as we can. We've made our
process more formal as our project has matured, so now we have "data monkeys"
who test the data, then send it to the publisher for their approval before it
gets included in our releases. This takes a bit of time and we only have so
many monkeys working on the data, so if you want to jump in and help out on the
book(s) you're specifically interested in, post a note about it on the message
board and we'll put you to work!
Also see
http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/pytw/#%5B%5BNew%20Data%20set%20Wishlist%5D%5D

* Where can I discuss PCGen and interact with the developers?

Generally speaking you can login to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen you can
check out the PCGen page from which you can view and post Messages. If you have
any questions about PCGen, that's the place to send your question. Most of the
developers hang out there on a regular basis, and a number of other very
involved non-developers are also available to answer any questions you might
have.

* Where/How do I report Bugs or request features?

You can submit a bug either by posting a message to the yahoo group with [BUG]
in its title, or by going to Bug page at the sourceforge site and entering a bug
there directly. We commonly refer to the feature requests as FREQ for short,
and you can either post a message with [FREQ] in the title or enter it directly
in the FREQ list at the sourceforge site. In both cases, the more detailed a
bug/FREQ is, the more likely it will be addressed in the near future. We prefer
FREQs be posted at the yahoo group initially so others can help iron out any
details or brainstorm on how to improve the functionality.

* What do I need to run PCGen?

PCGen 5.8 requires Java JRE 1.4 (this can be found at www.sun.com), which means
it will run on any OS that supports that version of Java. Many of our
installers now remove the need for you to worry about installing Java.

* What's available at the yahoo site?

In the Files page there are a number of folders you should know about - there's
Campaign+Central folder where lots of user added Campaigns are available.
There's a folder for new character sheet templates that aren't included in the
standard releases, and there's a folder for Character PCG files when users have
problems that they need help diagnosing. Users who want to send in corrections
or updates to anything that's included in the official releases of PCGen should
upload those files to
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=450173&group_id=36698&func=browse where one
of us, including our very own Portal to the Negative Plane, will make sure it
gets included in the next release.

* Is there an "on-line" version of the documentation?

Yes - at: http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/docs/
There's a "Troubleshooting" guide there if you have any trouble getting PCGen to
run.

Thanks, and welcome aboard!

Just took this feat fo my Psion (Kineticist), however it does not appear
to be functioning correctly.

According to the RSRD @ d20srd.org
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Expanded Knowledge [Psionic]

You learn another power.
Prerequisites

Manifester level 3rd.
Benefit

Add to your powers known one additional power of any level up to one level
lower than the highest-level power you can manifest. You can choose any
power, including powers from another discipline’s list or even from
another class’s list.
Special

You can gain this feat multiple times. Each time, you learn one new power
at any level up to one less than the highest-level power you can manifest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thus I could select a power such as Hustle (2nd lvl PsiWar) or even
Empathic Transfer (2nd lvl Egoist) to add to my powers known... however
currently the feat only allows you to add 1 power from your current Class
list.

Ok, that did it, but why? :p

My original build batch file had this which (apparently) didn't work:

call ant clean
call ant build-optimize

Barak

PS:Hmm, just noted that one built with build-optimize results in a .jar that
is approx 700k smaller. Interesting.

PSS:And if I rebuild with my old batch file and substitute the smaller .jar,
it still works properly. :P

It sounds like a plugin problem it's looking for the method

public void addSpellLevel(
	 String tagType,
	 String className,
	 String spellName,
	 String spellLevel,
	 List preList)

in spellsupport.java and can't find it. There are so many of them
because it will throw the error every time it tries to parse the
SPELLLEVEL tag.

ant clean; ant build

should fix it.

There are 7 Junit tests failures with revision 587. All of them are in
pcgen.gui.

I believe it has to do with the publisher names commit that Tir did today but I
need someone to verify.

For the error messages:

Expected text value 'System Reference Document, srdbasiccharacterclassesi.rtf'
but was 'Wizards of the Coast - System Reference Document,
srdbasiccharacterclassesi.rtf'

I need someone to verify this and to submit TO ME the necessary fixes. I also
think it would be nice if someone wrote a little tutorial on how the Junit tests
works in our environment and what needs to be changed when new data is
committed.

I've put the pre-release packages up at: <http://www.legolas.org/pcgen/builds/>

I would appreciate the help of anyone willing to download them and kick the

OK, thanks for the answer. I can confirm that (unfortunately), if you
use a pdf template file for the template, it will not output pdf at
all, but only the xslt template itself.

Too bad, can that extension be filed as a interesting development
request (possible with a -pdf switch on the command line) ?

Thanks in advance,

Expanded Knowledge requires code which does not yet exist to be
properly supported.

I'm ezperimenting with some work arounds that I need to speak with the
Lst silverback about to see which he prefers. But even then it'll only
some close, not work until a full featured spell chooser is available.

Posted from CMP's forums seeing as how he said it was an issue with the
RSRD also.

Upon gainings level 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, a dragon disciple earned
bonus spell slots. PCGen prompts for these spells but does not add them
to the output sheet. (This bug occurs in both the RSRD and CMP sets)
Consulting the PCGen documentation, the CHOOSE tag does not work
properly unless the feat uses the "MULT:YES" tag.

Adding the tag "MULT:YES" to lines 53 through 59 appears to fix this
problem.

We have a code bug tracker open for this, I'll check out the MULT:YES and
see if that fixes it.

I'm coding up a class that normally uses the Cleric spell list, but
can add spells from other divine classes as well. To make this work I
have .MODed some spells to include the class as being able to cast it.
I have then added the class name to the SPELLLIST tag but I'm not
seeing the .MODed spells on the list of available spells. Sanitized
examples follow:

In classes.lst:
FooClass[tab]SPELLLIST:2|Cleric|FooClass

In spells.lst:
Awaken.MOD[tab]CLASSES:FooClass=5

From the docs on SPELLLIST this should let me choose the spell Awaken
as a 5th level spell for FooClass, but it's not showing up.

Haven't used PCgen a lot since 5.8.x since my group stopped playing
for a while. Now I just had to update a character and stumbled on an
error that must have something to do with output code.

Both the MISC.MAGIC and the MISC.FUNDS are broken. I noticed it first
in the PDF but double-checked in the combined HTML.

Code in base.xml (for PDF) says
<misc>
|%MISC.FUNDS|
    <funds>
       <fund>|MISC.FUNDS,</fund><fund>|</fund>
    </funds>
|%|

And the output is something like
Object1</fund><fund>Object2</fund><fund>Object3

I did an output to the html combined, that has this as code:

|MISC.FUNDS,<br />| and that gives an output like
Object1<br />Object2<br />

Looking at the code of the html I see
Object1<br />

So I presume somewhere the < and > are escaped while they should not be...

Oh, this bug was present in 5.9.7 too. Not in the 5.8 series as far as
I know

Didn't someone put a fix in on the Java side recently to help with the
problem of embedded special characters? (Before, you'd have problems
exporting if someone had typed an ampersand or lt/gt sign into one of
the text fields). Sounds like something similar isn't working. The OS
code in the email looks like it should give correct results, unless
I'm missing something.

I recently purchased the D20 Future dataset, and it has starships and
robots listed as character race types. I was wondering, how do you
build a starship or a robot this way?

It certainly can, I've added a tracker to SF for this :-)
