Likely because he is one of the many people who have spent a lot of
money on WOTC data sets via Codemonkey and are playing 3.0, so have no

I have learned to live with the 5.8 SRD and what I create myself. My

I thought all sets were to be supported for x number of years. Didn't realize
that had changed...

We are still maintaining (not much improvement, but maintaining) the 3.0 SRD
dataset, along with a number of 3.0 datasets that get both maintenance and
updates.

No, that still is going on. However, the 3.0 datasets haven't been brought
forward from 5.6.1 to 5.8. And with 5.8.1 to come out,
they haven't released them to the newest stable yet.

I have updated to the latest Java version, but that didn't help either.
What's worse, I found out that it is not limited to archaic weapons, but
also happens with simple weapons. None of them from Arcana are shown as
proficient when I load the Halfling default monster kit.

Eddy, could you please check the attack values for the Dwarf's Pickaxe, the
Halfling's Slingshot and the Orc's Greataxe against the MSRD for me, so I
can finish the MSRD Default Monster validation process? I know I could just
add 4 for being proficient, but for a validation someone should actually
have seen the correct numbers, which I can't right now. :(

Are the two of you checking this the same way? In the same game mode? With the
same datasets loaded and nothing else?

Is the non-proficiency penalty being applied if you give the character the
weapon in question and do an output? (IOW, is it a simple display issue in the
equipment lister?)

And from your description Frank the first thing I would check would be the
proficiency names in the Urban Arcana dataset in both the equipment file and the
weaponprof filwe and make sure they match.

I gave a step by step description of what I was doing in the first post of

him.

Yes. The output sheet shows it as well.

That was my first thought, too. After checking twice I copied the Arcana
files into 5.9.3 (without the kits as they weren't implemented in that form
there) and everything works fine there, so it can't be a data issue. I also
checked with the kits lst files removed in 5.9.4 (as that was the only
difference to what I tested with 5.9.3) and still when I select a Dwarf the
only Archaic weapon from Arcana that is shown as proficient is the
Greatsword, so that makes no difference.

Fortunately we were home by 7pm on Christmas Day. The hospital was really

that we got to spend at least part of Christmas day at home.

It is really easy. What you need to do is spend the previous 40 hours
awake and in a perpetual state of low grade panic followed by a huge
relief. Supprisingly enough you can pass out for 10 hours after that ;)

I've tried it out with the latest source and data from CVS and I see the
problem. It is almost as if the proficiency is being calculated before
the arcana file is loaded. Have you tried playing with the priorities of
the PCC files?

Out of curiosity though, why is there a data source under the msrd
partial tree that is not loaded when you load the msrd complete set?
This is confusing to me, and goes against how we name the data sets in
the srd/srd35 modes. Maybe a different directory name such as extras
would be appropriate?

Ah, finally someone else sees it. I was already thinking there would be
gremlins in my PC. I haven't fiddled with the PCC rank yet, I will make some
tests in that direction tonight. Good Idea.

The PCC setup still needs work. When I asked to get some info on the design
philosophy of the MSRD source tree, that sparked a discussion that has not
been finished yet (partially because of lack of replies). Basically Modern
encompasses a variety of genres, that normally do not call for being mixed.

I was thinking to have 3 "Complete" sets, 1 Core, 1 Arcana and 1 Future. One
problem that I have is renaming the momentary Complete/Modern to Modern
Core, because renaming the source would break existing characters, so I may
well end up still doing a Full Complete set, just because I can't get rid of
that name.

I like your suggestion about an extras directory. We could treat the Core
MSRD as a standard and handle Future and Arcana as extras. But whatever may
come, I want this discussed first and will not act on a personal whim, which
means the reorganization will still take a while. It is just getting too
complicated to get rid of something after it has been established in that
area.

Testing this revealed that I can avoid this bug if I set RANK:0 in the PCC.
Any other RANK (I actually only tested 1,2,3 and 9) does not work. As a Core
campaign setting Arcana should have RANK:2

Yeah, sounds effective.

I forget, is this your first? I found when our daughter was born it was
pretty straightforward. Cai and I came home from downtown, Yumiko told
me "tonight". Less than 12 hours later (barely) I was home again. That
time, we were at the hospital maybe four hours.

That's the *second* one. The first one, she woke up at silly o'clock
with contractions, I woke up a few hours later. Around 3pm we went in.
About 10 hours after that (IIRC) Cai was born. Yumiko was so exhausted
by the end of it that she was sleeping through every other contraction.

I got home around 4 am. I had to hang around until I got measurements,
then pick up some food (I hope you remembered to eat) on the way
home[1], ate, called a friend of mine in another time zone[2], then went
to sleep. For about three hours, before I got a call from another
friend of hours.

"Mmmm?"
"Is Yumi-chan available?
"H' M'sko. Boy. 12:55am, 18 inch, 7 p'nd 11 'nce. B'." *click*

I think she called the rest of Yumiko's friends locally and let them
know; I didn't get *any* more phone calls until I woke up midafternoon.
Very nice of Mitsuko. She even gave me a ride in later.

[1] there was *one* Subway open, that time of night. Even McDonalds was
     closed
[2] one hour ahead of us. She called me about her first at 6am my time,
I called her about our first about 5am her time. I was afraid it
was going to escalate and I'd get the next call at 4am....

Have you had a third? Careful if you do. :) Our second was similar to
yours, but the third was ah...somewhat more hurried.

Ann went to bed having had one or two very mild contractions all day
long. At about 1:15AM, she woke up with the first of what she called
hard contractions. We bundled the other two to the baby sitter, and I
drove about 105 mph up the highway to the hospital, where I parked
outside the ER and helped her walk in. The nurse took one look at her,
and had her in a wheelchair and into the elevator in about 10 seconds
flat.

We got to the maternity floor and into the room, where our doctor was
waiting for us. Fortunately for us, she'd just finished an emergency
Cesaerian not 5 minutes before we drove up!

Things accelerated rapidly after that. By the time we got to the room,
Ann was at 5 or 6 cm and growing fast, and they were still in the
process of hooking up the equipment and the nurses were all urging Ann
*not* to push, all the while telling her it was too late for
painkillers. :)

Roughly 30 minutes after we'd gotten to the hospital, at about 2:45,
Rachel was born. The Dr. said that if we decided to have another one,
she was going to make Ann spend the last week in the hospital.

I didn't even bother to drive home. There was a chair in the room.
After I'd settled myself comfortably into it and was almost asleep, a
nurse came in and quietly asked, "Are you aware that chair folds out
into a bed?" I cracked an eye open and replied, "If I was, do you think
I'd be trying to sleep like this?"

I don't know if we're going to have a third. Seems unlikely; juggling
two is hassle enough, three might make it worse. It *is* possible,
though. In fact, that might be part of why we're taking the daughters
of a friend of ours this weekend (nine years old and one year old) --
see if we can handle having more little ones around.

Yes, I know how to take care of a baby. Delegate! *g*

A friend of mine, his younger sister was born in the hospital parking
lot. She was *tiny*. I don't know that she ever got big, in fact --
her mom wasn't all that big herself.

I remember when she was a teenager she was able to get into the house,
even with the door chained. Her arm was skinny enough that she could
open the door a bit, reach around and slide the chain... from the
outside. Granted, that also means the chain was too long, but still.

Another time she had handcuffs on. Briefly.[1] She put her hands down
in front of her and they fell off.

[1] no, I don't remember why. I was a little curious about it, though.
She was small, but terribly cute.

I assume you got up so it could be unfolded, yes?

I found when Cai was born I'd sack out and doze for a bit. Not full-on
sleep, but at least get my eyes closed for a while.

You probably have memory (lack of) problems. Go into the pcgen.bat file
and assign more memory to pcgen. I just delete all sentences except this
one:
java -jar pcgen.jar -Xmx256
This assign 256Mb ram and should be enough memory for pcgen to run.

Still kicking, not much traffic on any of the lists lately. I attribute that
the the holiday season.

In my spare time, I'm busy coding Spell Compendium for my own use. Now the
primary source for spells besides PHB in my game group, and I don't use anything
if not in PCGen - keeps my character maintenance headaches to almost nothing. :)
I'm on the C's (with Wizard spell descriptions completely done). There are a
lot of spells, and I'm busy enough as it is wiht the Holidays at work.

It appears that SPELLLEVEL:CLASS is broken in the
latest code base.
I have a LST file that uses SPELLLEVEL to create the
class spell list for a class. In 5.8 it works great in
5.9.x I don't get any spells added at all.

Anyone else seen this problem?

Yes, I noticed it in the 5.9.4 release.

There is an existing P7 tracker for that.

[ 1336843 ] [BUG][5.9.2++]SPELLLEVEL:CLASS broken
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=1336843&group_id=25576&atid

It is not assigned to anybody, so if you want to tackle it... ;-)
