Subject: [Bug] BONUS:DOMAIN|NUMBER|x Not Working Properly
elves_are_mo...

Hi.

The tag BONUS:DOMAIN|NUMBER|x doesn't appear to be working properly,
at least in template.lst and feat.lst. The bonus domains granted by
this are not being added unless the character already has domains
that are granted by his/her class. I've been testing this rather
intensively, and cannot find a work-around for this behavior. It is
very repeatable.

Example 1:
a. Created template. "Add Domain [tab] BONUS:DOMAIN|NUMBER|1"
b. Choose a human, with any class without domains (basically, NOT
Cleric).
c. Apply template.
d. Check domain tab. 0 of 0 domains listed.
e. Take class WITH domains (basically Cleric).
f. Check Domain tab. 0 of 3 domains listed.

So, the BONUS is being applied. However,
g. Choose three domains.
h. Remove domain-giving class.
i. Check Domain tab. Back to 0 of 0 domains listed.

The same procedure applies to Feats.

Thanks,
Mortal_Elf

We will re-check the rules on this. We drafted the rules ourselves
because the books weren't exactly comprehensive...
I see that it will make a big difference when starting out, but it
should get smoothed out at higher levels anyway.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for ;-)

I didn't want to suggest that the Level Adjustment is broken. It just
doesn't comply with our house rule ;-)

You're right - I hope I didn't cause too much confusion.

Which is a good idea, I guess. I took me a while to figure out that a
"Tiefling" would be sorted in under "P" ;-)

Thanks,

Actually, the MM got done before the PHb.... Only the MM and PHb have them
right now:

Form is

SPELL:Name1|num1|Type1|Name2|num2|Type2|...|[PRExxx]

Name is name of spell
num in num times/day
type is normally Innate. I've also made Whip for Kuotoa, Covey for Hags,
etc.

And only in the Race.lst. I think for full functionality of the subraces in
FR. you would need the SPELL tag in template.lst (FReq 556534 SPELL tag in
Template as well as Race )

one thing that annoys me about java apps in windows is the need to
start them from the command prompt. because there is no way to throw
a process into the back ground, starting an app in java will no
relenquish the command line. this means that if you accidentally
close the shell you started java from, your java app will also shut
down.

here is a modified batch file to fire off PCgen in it's own process
and close that annoying dos shell:

start javaw -jar pcgen.jar
exit

i have tested it on windows 2000 with jre 1.4 please let me know if
it doesn't work with 9x or ME.

I loaded an character last edited with 2.5.3 into 2.6.4 to update him. It is an
elf
thief/psiker, level 4/4.
So he should have 3 feats: 1 starting, one for level 3 and one for level 6.
As with my human psionic level 6 two weeks ago, he only had 2 feats.
I just gave him an extra feat point, so everything is OK again, but it was the
second thime, a character (both psiker) had a wrong feat number after updating
the char from an older pcgen version to the new one. In the pcg file the three
feats where defined!

Can someone give me some explanation how I can create a dagger + 2
which can cast (or better, give the wearer the ability to
cast) 'Bless' twice a day?

Now I've created a masterwork dagger with the +2 attack bonus and the
ability 'Bonus spell(lvl1)' twice, but is this the trick or does this
do something else??

Thnx

BONUS:VISION is not the right way to go. The BONUS tags are used only for adding
numerical bonus. We have to make the VISION tag works where the BONUS:VISION is
wanted.

I did had time to mode your FREQ to PCGEN. We still have to explain the official effect of a EQUIPMENT with a negative level has on a PC abilities. From the PHB (text also found in <http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dnd_ph_glossary_print.asp>:

negative level: A loss of vital energy resulting from energy drain, spells, magic items, or magical effects. For each negative level gained, a creature suffers a –1 penalty to all skill checks, ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws, plus a –1 effective level penalty. (That is, whenever the creature’s level is used in a die roll or calculation, reduce its value by one for each negative level.) In addition to these penalties, a spellcaster so affected loses access to one spell per negative level from the highest spell level castable. If two or more spells fit this criterion, the caster decides which one becomes inaccessible. The lost spell becomes available again as soon as the negative level is removed, providing the caster would be capable of using it at that time. Negative levels remain in place for 24 hours after acquisition, or until removed with a spell such as restoration. After that period, the negative level goes away, but the afflicted creature must attempt a Fortitude save (DC=10+1/2 the attacker’s Hit Dice+the attacker’s Charisma modifier) to determine whether there is a lasting effect. If the saving throw succeeds, there is no harm to the character. Otherwise, the creature’s character level drops by one and any benefits acquired with that level are lost. The afflicted creature must make a separate saving throw for each negative level possessed.

Also, and of more importance, we have the think over the syntax on this puppy. What is found in the .lst files is very ugly. I think we should go with something more like:

        BONUS:NEGLEVEL|1|!PREALIGN:2,5,8
Give 1 negative level to PC not LE, CE or NE.

This might not even be the correct way to go. It might be to related to the DND rules. Maybe a negative level in other D20 product will not follow these rules. So it might be better if we use a bunch of other tags to implement the effects with TYPE=NegativeLevel.REPLACE.

There is a bit of thinking still needed to be done here.

All outsiders get Darkvision (60') unless otherwise denied it.

Yup, you can move individual coins wherever you want. Currently this
results in having 1000 entries of "Coin (Gold), 1" in your sack or chest
or whatever, instead of one entry of "Coin (Gold), 1000"... and you have
to do it one by one... but at least it kinda works.

I hope the equipping GURU is planning on finishing this feature off.

Currently, characters that would translate to HTML markup are
converted to character codes. i.e. "<" is converted to "<". This
prevents having any kind of readable format in fields such as Bio,
Description, etc. Is there any way to escape code these into the field
so they show up the right way, or remove the encoding, or something??
At least put an option in there somewhere to allow turning it off. It's
a huge pain in the rear to go in and replace all of the encoded
characters with the actual character so my sheet looks decent.

On my 2000 setup I can't use javaw to run PCGEN as it crashes to high
heaven. This is using Java 1.4.0.

The solution to this is to name them differently.

Then use the 'RACENAME' tag so that when the character sheet is printed out it
just shows Tiefling.

That's how I handled races for settings like FR, in case somebody loaded the
player's handbook after FR that avoids an overwrite.

I *think* that's to allow a spell caster to cast an extra spell per day...

I just copied the Planetouched one over all three of them, renamed the MM one to
Tiefling (MM), and kept the level adjustment in on the DMG one.

Then CVS'd it.

There's actually three more copies of the race:
one in the realms races, and two in the monster's of faerun.

I left these ones alone.

In Win2000, with Java 1.4.0 I have a desktop shortcut with the following
properties on the "Shortcut" tab.

Target: D:\PCGen\pcgen.jar
Start In: D:\PCGen

The rest of it is just left to default.

On the "General" tab, you should see:

Opens with: [] javaw

([] being the little icon.)

If it doesn't say that, then your file type definition for .jar is screwed
up. You can either go fix the file type definition, which I'm not gonna
explain, or you can change it for just the one shortcut by hitting the
"Change" button. On the window that pops up, hit "Browse" and go looking
for wherever you installed javaw.exe

Works just fine.

This particular instance is in a feat: Can we call a template.lst from within a feat.lst?

As an aside, is it possible to create a central visiontemplate.lst? I don't have customise.lst with me, so this example is in pseudocode: (if I remember right, 0 is remove, 1 is add, 2 is replace in the VISION tag.

SOURCE:visiontemplate.lst

TEMPLATE:lowlight-short
    VISION:Lowlight (30'),1

TEMPLATE:lowlight-med
    PRETEMPLATE:lowlight-short
    VISION:Lowlight (60'),2
TEMPLATE:lowlight-long
    PRETEMPLATE:lowlight-med
    VISION:Lowlight (90'),2

TEMPLATE:darkvision-short
    VISION:Darkvision (30'),1

...and so on, for all the vision types.  Thus, rather than writing this out in a dozen or more different locations, everything can just call the central vision template file in their .pcc. That is, if a .pcc can call files in a directory other than its own?

BONUS:VISION is not the right way to go. The BONUS tags are used only for adding numerical bonus. We have to make the VISION tag works where the BONUS:VISION is wanted.
