Hi Dave,

Attach the character pdf and pcg to a tracker and I'll investigate. The simple

just fine.

Did the Standard Campaign 80 pt build in RSRD 3.5 mode come from Pathfinder? I
don't know much about Pathfinder and even less about what is OGC in Pathfinder.

Thanks, Matt

No, 80 point has been a "standard" point buy for 3.5 for a long time.

Yea, there were a "lot" of "standard" ways to create characters in 3.5.

1) 24, 28, 32 point buildsstarting at 8.
2) 25d6 and choose.
3) 80 points starting at 0.
4) heroic array
5) non-heroic array

Pathfinderchoose "other" "standard" ways, but in the long run it is
however each DM / player group wants to run it.

Actuall I just checked my 3.5 DMG (page 169), and these are the point
buy values listed:

Low-powered campaign 15 points
Challenging campaign 22 points
Tougher campaign 28 points
High-powered campaign 32 points

The 3.0 DMG has the same values (page 19). No 80 points anywhere. Weird.

Stefan.

Where do you get that? I can't find any reference to that 80 point thing
in either the 3.5 or the 3.0 core rules...

It wasn't in the rules, but I remember something on the Wizards site (a

official, but just ones that folks used.

That reminds me: non of these point build methods for 3e and 3.5e,
wether from the DMG or a web site are actually covered by the OGL. We
may be violating the license here.

Send an email to Paul and have him check it out. I thought that this was
all fan based stuff, and was covered by derivative work on the OGL. It
would have been the d20 llicense that might have been the problem. But
Paul would know.

I assumed that the "80 point buy" method was made up and used precisely
because the other methods were not OGL.

Sorry for replying to what by now is an old message, but I don't have time to
check here regularly. - I've just been out of the country for more than a month.

I'm not entirely sure what the question is, but I'm still using the CMP
datasets, in 5.14. I think I've communicated about it in the past.

I'm currently DM and don't have time to work on converting/upgrading LST files.
I'm still hoping that once my current stint of DM'ing finished I have time to
have another go at bringing my CMP files in line with newer versions of PCGen -
especially now 6.0 is out.

I know that Andrew sent me details of an unfuddle repository a while ago, but
given that I don't really have time to work on LST files right now, I didn't
want to sign up for $9/mo to find out what it exactly was for.

Once I'm done with being DM for my current group in a few months, I'd like to
see if my current set of CMP files can be converted to 5.16/6.0. I'm not sure if
it would be legal to collaborate on such an effort but I think it would be legal
to share updates with other people who own the CMP datasets, preferably through
something like subversion. (I'd prefer a free service)

I can't promise any time investment for the next few months but after that I do
want to invest some serious time into a conversion effort of my own datasets.

Tips on what are good and bad practices in editing the current CMP files are
appreciated, with a future conversion to 5.16/6.0 in mind. Things to avoid, or
certain variable names to use, etc. I am making edits to LST files continuously,
but focussing on making things work for 5.14, especially coding classes, items,
etc. that never had a dataset released for them or are incomplete in the current
CMP datasets. Magic Item Compendium is the primary time investment at the
moment.

Cheers,

Adriaan Renting/RogerWilco

* Unfuddle is a free service last I checked. You may pay for better features,
more space, etc. Just
like github or any number of other subversion cloud services.
* The PCGen Community cannot host *any* of the CMP files.
a) We don't own them; We aren't licensed to hold them and we certainly are
incapable of updating
them and offering them to the community at large. CMP is the only ones that were
allowed to host
them, update them, etc. Sadly, WotC had a special license agreement with CMP
which limited how long
they could offer upgrades. That license agreement expired, but the terms and
conditions of that
license is still enforced today. It was great CMP was able to offer those sets,
and sad that it was
a limited time only.
* Our best effort for the CMP set users is to offer aid with tools (prettyLST
and our converter) to
help bring those sets forward. And of course the personal touch of lending
advice and how-to
knowledge on our Yahoo Group lists.

Now, I sympathize with the CMP set holders, and their plight. You paid for
something and wish to see
that it continues to work for you as we march forward in time. Which is why I
offered, as a private
person, some of my free time and a method by which to aid you in upgrading your
personally owned
sets via a free but secure cloud service. I only did so as a helpful
knowledgeable monkey, nothing
more. Any user that asks for my help, on or off these lists, gets an answer and
whatever aid I can
give them. I've always been a helpful person, and hope to continue being a
helpful person. We don't
want anyone using our program to feel they can't use it.

With all that said, we cannot host any updated files here as a community on
these lists or on our
web services. It would be unlawful or at the very least an extremely legal gray
area for us to do so
(And anything that is illegal or a murky area we are not going to mess with).
Our hands are
completely tied in this matter. What we can do is offer assistance, tools and
encouragement. If any
of our community goes above and beyond that, it us is completely up to them.

The hacking of the core sets, well that has a perk of working with the CMP sets,
but you'll still
need to update your own CMP sets if you wish to reap the full benefit.

Cheers,

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your reply. I fully understand the legal situation, I know I'm
basically on my own. At best I can hope to cooperate with other former CMP
customers and get generic LST help in these groups. I understand that PCGen
can't support the CMP files and neither can CMP any more. Only the copyright
owner and former CMP customers who bought the files at the time can have access
to the datasets legally.

I do appreciate your help and effort (and eveyone else's) even if my responses
and presence here are infrequent. I will probably post more questions again if I
get around to having another go at converting from 5.14 to 5.16 and beyond. In
the mean time I'll keep fighting the 5.14 files.

You are right that Unfuddle does have a free option, I had missed it. It seems
very limited though.

I still don't really understand what you mean by the "hacking of the core sets"
and in what way it would help me. I think I understood from a post in the List
group that you made some kind of compatibility files?

Cheers,

Adriaan Renting/RogerWilco

I think those aren't OGL, they're not in the SRD as far as I know.

I always assumed what was said earlier, that the "standard method" that PCGen
used is made up because the published methods aren't OGL.

The CMP datasets did come with the DMG methods, but not the srd35 datasets.

Hi,

CMP and PCGen files are incompatible... they were actually designed that way on
purpose. One of the
biggest complaints from CMP users is the inability to use the third party books
we provide because
of this.

So, I've gone ahead and made the pcgen set use the standard var naming. Which is
what CMP monkey
have been using all along. (Smart of them thankfully since it made this easier
to handle).

There is still the issue of gamemode stuff, but you can now make use of the
files and have a chance
they'll work in tandem.

I'm trying to add a Cloak of Invisibility 2x/day.

It seem it is impossible to do so from inventory » add custom item, or I'm I
missing the correct Type to add?

Hi,

Inventory > Search for 'Cloak'

I make a custom item from the cloak
Name > Cloak of Invisibility
SPROP Button > Invisibility 2/day
Scroll to the Powers list all the way to the bottom 'Add Type' I select 'Cape'

Done, add item, and now I have a 'Cloak of Invisibility'

That's what I ended up doing, my question was if it was possible to link the
Invisibility spell descriptor.

Still happening in latest 6.00.

7 lvl Sorc
Casting per day is ok.
But known spells only the lvl 0 is right.

Hi,

There doesn't appear to be any way to link the spell description to the item.
You can manually write
it in. Or you can code up the item and have it grant the spell in question.

Cloak of Invisibility
     SPELLS:Cloak of Invisibility|CASTERLEVEL=3|TIMES=2|Invisibility
     TYPE:Cape

Cheers,

Hi,

Okay - I'm looking at:
http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/classes/sorcerer.html#_sorcerer

Then I have what is coded up in PCGen:
1 CAST:0,3 KNOWN:4,2
2 CAST:0,4 KNOWN:5,2
3 CAST:0,5 KNOWN:5,3
4 CAST:0,6,3 KNOWN:6,3,1
5 CAST:0,6,4 KNOWN:6,4,2
6 CAST:0,6,5,3 KNOWN:7,4,2,1
7 CAST:0,6,6,4 KNOWN:7,5,3,2
8 CAST:0,6,6,5,3 KNOWN:8,5,3,2,1
9 CAST:0,6,6,6,4 KNOWN:8,5,4,3,2
10 CAST:0,6,6,6,5,3 KNOWN:9,5,4,3,2,1
11 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,4 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,3,2
12 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,5,3 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,3,2,1
13 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,4 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,3,2
14 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,5,3 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,3,2,1
15 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,6,4 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,4,3,2
16 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,6,5,3 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,4,3,2,1
17 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,4 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,4,3,3,2
18 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,5,3 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,4,3,3,2,1
19 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,4 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,4,3,3,3,2
20 CAST:0,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6 KNOWN:9,5,5,4,4,4,3,3,3,3

I made a human sorcerer level 5, and I have known 6, 4, 2. What is off?

Mind you, I'm using the trunk version which is pre-6.1.1 release, so this may
have been fixed or
already addressed, but it appears to be working and/or already fixed to me.

The CAST & KNOWN tags have always been correct. The issue has been the
bloodline spells and how they are handled.

Part I:
I just downloaded last nights Autobuild, PCGen v6.01.00-dev.

I created a 5th level sorcerer, with arcane bloodline. Spells are 6,4,2
and there should be *Bonus Spells*: /identify
<http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/spells/identify.html#_identify>/
(3rd), /invisibility
<http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/spells/invisibility.html#_invisibility>/
(5th). They are not in the Known list of the character, nor do they show
up in Preview or Export sheets.

Part II:
Using PCGen v6.00.0, I created the exact same sorcerer as above.Spells
are 6,5,3 andthe *Bonus Spells*: /identify
<http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/spells/identify.html#_identify>/
(3rd), /invisibility
<http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/spells/invisibility.html#_invisibility>/
(5th) *are* in the list and show up in Preview and Export sheets. The
way the bloodline spells are being handled is confusing, but the numbers
are correct in the end. Identify is a 1st level spell, so the number of
KNOWN 1st level spells is bumped up 1 (from 4 to 5) at 3rd character
level and Identify is added, thus allowing the user to tochoose the 4
1st level spells s/he wants. Same logic for 2nd level spells (at 5th
character level).

Conclusion: v6.00.0 is correct. v6.01.00-dev is broken.

And both show 0,7,5 as the number that can be cast which is correct for
a 5th level sorcerer with an 18 charisma.

Yes the 80 point build was put in to be d20 compliant. Then when we dropped the
d20 license the values were never added back in for 3e & 35e. Pathfinder has the
values published.
