Hi Folks,

Sorry about the spam attack. I've removed the offending message from the
affected mailing lists.
I've let the previously member in good standing know that his account appeared
to have been hacked,
and have locked him out from freely spamming the list.

I'm sure I don't need to remind people never to open links to sites they don't
know.

(Why do Spammers use the same tired tactics knowing how lame they appear???)

Anyways, my apologies.

Greetings,
Thanks both, makes sense, it's just that so many times I've added a DESC to an
item and wondered why it didnt show... then realised and gone back and changed
it to an SPROP to fix...

Any issue with having the DESC appear in addition to any SPROP? Or perhaps in
the same (optional/user setting) way of using BENEFIT over DESC elsewhere?

Cheers
Dave

Oh, no reason at all I suppose, other than the code doesn't support it and you'd
need to open a Code
Feature request - which would be to add the support to the files, then another
request to get the
export and a third for the house rule. But to be honest, I don't see a viable
need for it. SPROP is
a perfectly reasonable tag, it supports variable names, and PRExxx tags. It is
for Equipment and
Equipment Mods.

DESC / BENEFIT serves a useful purpose. Hence the support is there. Asking to
add a redundant
feature would be, well... pointless. That's a lot of work to support something
that shouldn't be an
issue in the first place.

Just remember, you describe feats, spells, and abilities. You don't describe
items. They have
special properties.

Cheers,

Hi,

Okay, Download 5.17.19 (It's a Beta Release)
That is compatible with Win7

Also, check out this link - it might answer some of those questions on why
things aren't working in Win7

I've downloaded 5.17.19 Beta and loaded:

Paizo - Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Advanced Player's Guide
Paizo - Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary
Paizo - Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook
Paizo- Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide

I'm trying to create a character, but I do not seem to have the Campaign Traits
in my trait list. Any suggestions? Do I need to load the first adventure path
chapter or something? I have the PDF of the ROTRL Player's Guide and the
campaign traits are in there...

For example, "Monster Hunter" is in the PG but not in my traits list.

Any ideas?

Rob

Hi,

Doing a quick search, it doesn't look like the campaign traits were coded up.
Odd. Let me dig a

Hi,

Yes, after a thorough look, it would appear the Campaign traits were never coded
up. Then I looked
through the book, and I'm not seeing any.

The exact book name and a page please.

Hi,

No, that version we have is 3.5e with a Pathfinder Conversion. Not any new
edition.

PCGen v5.17.19 is our third beta in the lead-up to our 6.0 release.
We've continued to squash bugs and improve the stability of PCGen.
Thanks again for the great feedback and reports of issues!

A word about what a beta release is for the PCGen team. This is a build
that has all of the new features that we plan shipping with v6.0. The
beta cycle is where we focus on bug fixing and generally getting the
program solid. An essential part of this is of course you trying it out
and letting us know of any issues you find. Our trained monkeys are
ready and waiting for your email to the PCGen mailing list!

Notable Changes
All data has been brought up to 6.0 syntax compliance using the Data
Converter
Fix to a performance issue in 5.17.18
Data converter can now be run against external data
Followers are once again properly linked to their masters (affected
loading and bonuses)

New Sources
The following new sources were added in 5.17.19

Yes, that's exactly right. The Anniversary Edition Player's Guide - which is
also missing a lot of the various other references I found in the software,
notably equipment.

Guess it's time to start learning how to create custom traits. :)

Thanks for the responses, guys.

We just received an email from the GenCon staff about booking for next year and
I thought now is a good time to start talking about next year. A 50% deposit is
due by Jan 23rd, 2013

This year (2012) things just weren't able to work out for us to have a booth,
neither scheduling nor financially

The costs involved are as follows
Booth: $1400USD
Electric: $50USD
Flyers: $150+USD

These are the minimum that I as PR guy think would be beneficial. Other costs
could be added, like the following.

Free CD's with PCGen ($700USD+) this cost "could" be split with other projects
we could put on the CD.
Additional t-shirts?

I "can" run the booth the entire time myself, but after Friday it isn't as fun.
Two years ago Todd & Doug were able to help me out which greatly helped.
Hopefully they'd be able to help out again. :)

So we'd need $1600USD as a minimum. There are additional things that we could do
that I think would be beneficial.

I would REALLY like to be able to have an actual code monkey attend because
every year there's some people that stop by with code questions or interested in
the project because of the three colleges in Indy with good computer science
courses.

Another thing that I would like to see is to have a "PCGen & how do I use it"
seminar. For that we'd need at least a couple more experienced LST monkeys and
preferably a Code monkey to help. In this I'd like to be able to give a quick
over view of the prog, it's file structure, and the very basics of starting
their homebrew sets.

We currently have a couple of hundred in the PCGen fund from last year, some of
which goes towards the web hosting. The BoD has also tossed around using
Kickstarter or IndieGogo to use as a way to keep all the funding transparent as
possible. But other than some t-shirts (which we had made a few years back) I'm
not sure what else we could offer as rewards since PCGen is free (and will
always be).

So what are everyone's thoughts on next year?

Hi all,

If we were to Kickstarter this, what would people be willing to chip in for?

* A specially made monster?
* A specially made default character?
* Acknowledgements on start-up?
* Something else?

Send in your ideas!

Cheers,
Martijn

heap creep:
I mentioned before (with a jira) about used heap creeping up in size. It's still
doing it. After loading sources, I'm at 135M.
After loading a character, it jumps up +15-20M and never goes lower. Hit a
"reload sources" and it jumped up to 210M. Even a GC never takes it lower than
200M. I then reload another character that uses different sources, and it's now
360M (GC drops it to 210M). Another reload of a different character takes it to
300M, which doesn't lower with GC. Unloading all characters and source materials
still never goes below 270M at this point. It seems the more times I load
sources and characters, the higher the minimum goes.

This might not be so much a problem with people generating characters normally,
but since I load and reload a lot for testing UC stuff, its definitely eating up
more and more memory.

duplicate source materials in the loaded list:
I'm loading Pathfinder CRB, APG, ARG, UC, and Bestiary. UC is showing up in the
source materials list twice. After testing, it doesn't matter what I load with
UC, it always shows twice.

Greetings,

Getting Drew to fix up our homebrew for us... oh, hang on, we've already got
that ! :-)

Only thing I can think of that (most) people would *pay* for, would be datasets
that we can't release... Forgotten Realms stuff etc.

Hmmmm, we can share homebrew 'for personal use' amongst our own gaming group, so
one kickstarter reward could be to play in a game hosted by one of our elite,
who just happens to have homebrewed up the WOTC data sets ?

:-)

Keeping it serious though - there's no physical rewards possible really, so
organising actual games to be run maybe more of an option? (probably via webcam
as we're spread out a bit...)

Allowing higher level pledgers to prioritise/request specific code/datasets to
be added ?

If a monkey was willing, could a data set (of a book of the pledgers choice) be
coded up specifically for an end user? For that end users use only (as if the
user had done it themselves, and thus work around the copyright issue? Treat it
as 'time with an expert to produce a tailored homebrew'.

Which reminds me, there is already that kickstarter that has a pcgen dataset as
one reward, still don't understand how that's going to work.

How about donating old (physical) rulebooks/supplements to 'pass on' as rewards?

Cheers
Dave

T-Shirts are the obvious one
Bumper Stickers
Patches
Posters? Nerds like nerdy things like posters of nerdy things! I'd hang it on my
wall!

mobile phone cases with the PCGen logo?

I know M&M's has some thing where you can have your own image on them. it has to
be simple, but M&M's with PCGen written on them would be pretty cool :)

I'll brainstorm some more.

Hi there, can you reopen the JIRA please - looks like James might have to

   Will do.

Part of the reason I mention this too, is that after about 4-5 source reloads,
PCGen starts dragging during the source reloads. After I've reloaded 2-3 times,
I just restart the program as its much faster in the long run. :)

Know any artists? Custom character portraits is a perennial favorite. I'd
donate some time to do it if I (a) had any time to donate, and (b) thought I was
good enough.

Heh, it's a nice easy short set & I happened to need it for my play by mail game
:-) Bug fixed & it's now in for data review so hopefully it'll turn up in the
main distribution before too long.
