I recently changed the internals a bit, but that was 5.17.7 and I took care
to ensure backwards compatibility.

Thanks,

Henk

Ah, so it was just recently fixed? Ok, thanks I'll be sure to update to 5.17.

No - 5.16.4, Yes - 5.17.5 or later (or maybe 5.17.6)...

#106036 From: pcgen@yahoogroups.com
Date: Wed Jun 1, 2011 11:45 am
Subject: File - Greetings from Moderator Monkeys.txt
pcgen@yahoogroups.com
Send Email Send Email

Greetings:

* This was last updated 19th of August 2009

Posting guidelines:
-------------------

http://wiki.pcgen.org/index.php?title=Posting_Guidelines

Here is a re-emphasis of those guidelines:
------------------------------------------

We are the Moderator Monkeys. There. We said it. We hope you all enjoyed it,
as it's the first, last, and only time we will refer to ourselves as such,
actually we tell a lie, but that's OK, because we're the Moderators :-)

You've all read the posting guidelines, right? Ha! Fat chance! We've only read
them once myself in several years of service to PCGen. That's a rather long and
lengthy read, not to mention boring. We'll point out the part that concerns us,
and therefore you, the most. We'll even sum it up in two words (points to
anybody that knows where the words come from...don't respond, you know who you
are):

-------
Be Nice
-------

That's it. That's the rule. Be Nice. If you have a disagreement with someone, Be
Nice. If someone's point of view irritates you, Be Nice. If anyone irritates
you, Be Nice. If someone insults your mother, Be Nice.

How, you ask, will you know when it's time to not Be Nice? We're glad you asked
us that. It's a simple answer. It's NEVER time for you to not Be Nice. If you
decide to not Be Nice, we start charging up the Ninja Monkeys. If you're not
nice, we'll close the thread and ask you to Be Nice. If you ignore our request
to Be Nice, we'll close down the thread, again, and TELL you to Be Nice. If you
ignore that we'll get irritated. We really hate having to close a thread more
than once. If you make us close it a third time, we'll whip out the Stick of
Doom(TM), smack you upside the head with it, and then gag you. Oh yeah and the
Ninja Monkeys will then take bits of your soul and scatter it across the
wastelands.

What's a gag, you ask? That's a simple one to answer too. A gag is where we
remove your posting privileges. If we have to gag you, the typical time is as
follows.

First offence: You get off easy, you lucky sod. You only get gagged for one
day.

Second offence: You don't get off quite as lucky. You get gagged for three
days.

Third offence: By this time, we're becoming VERY irritated with you. You get
gagged for however long we feel like gagging you at the time.
Any offence beyond the third: Now you've flat out Torqued us off! You get one
of two things. Gagged for a VERY long time, or gagged subject to banning by the
BoD (that means you're gagged until the BoD removes you from the project, or the
BoD in a majority decision, makes a very special, very persuasive,
request that you be un-gagged).

Now for the bad news <evil grin>. The above times are NOT set in stone, as some
of you are habitual offenders. You all know who you are, so we don't have to
name any names. Most of you get to skip the request, skip the order, and go
straight to the first offence. Some of you get to skip that and go to the
second offence. A small number of you get to go straight to the third offence.
A VERY select few of you are already at the very long time, or even the gagged
subject to banning by the BoD. That select few: you know who you are. This is
your ONLY warning.

That is the only sidetrack we're making for the habitual offenders. Now
everybody else (the very large majority of our community) pay attention!
Request, Order, Gag is what happens in the typical situation. Not every
situation is typical (imagine that). There will be times where the request phase
will be skipped, and even times when the order phase will be skipped and you'll
go straight to gagged, even though you've never been offensive. We don't expect
those times to happen often, but we imagine they will happen, so we're giving
everyone fair warning. It all depends on how much you offend us <evil grin>.
we'll give you all an example, from recent times, even. If anyone, in any way,
shape or form that we can possibly imagine, bashes/flames any publisher on these
boards, you proceed directly to a minimum of first offence, more depending on
how offensive you were.

Now, we're going to put something to rest right away. Code Monkey Publishing IS
A PUBLISHER, and we're tired of hearing them bashed on and flamed until
well-done. If you don't agree with us, TOUGH! You can disagree with us all you
want off the boards, this is not subject to discussion on the board. Only
warning.

OK, we think we all understand each other now, don't you? Time for us to wrap
this up. What, there's a question in the back? OK, go ahead

Question: You're not just going to leave it like that, are you? You're going
to say something nice to wrap everything up, just like the rest of the BoD,
right?

Answer: Well OK then, we really, really love the fact that we have such a large
a passionate community, we're sorry for the rules, but with 5000+ and counting
of you something had to be done, think of it as the Iron Monkey Paws in the
Velvet Gloves :-)

--------------------------------------------------------------
New Policy on Asking Questions about PI/Closed Content Sources
--------------------------------------------------------------

We respect the Publishers wishes with regards to PI and Closed Content
and therefore strongly prefer that any discussion of the creation of
those data sources are held in Generic terms.

However, we realise that a vast majority of you are asking questions
on how to code data sets for your own personal use and so we're no
longer going to growl or wave fingers at people who mention a
PI/Closed Content reference when asking questions. We will however
continue to state our responses to those questions in a generic manner
and hope that you'll do the same.

We will still not tolerate any PI/Closed Content being uploaded to our
file areas or any attempts at illegally sharing data sources.

Examples:
---------

1.) A user asking how to code the Skirmish ability from the Complete
Adventurer (WotC) will receive a helpful polite answer phrased in
generic terms, e.g "To implement an Ability that gives 1d6 damage
every 3 levels you'd want to look to the Rogue sneak attack
progression in our SRD files". But no more finger waving or growling
from the Moderators!

2.) A user stating that they want someone to give them a privately
coded data source for the Complete Adventurer set will be warned etc.

3.) A user uploading the Complete Adventurer data source will be
warned etc.

So, for all community members, there's no longer any need to call in
the Moderator if a PI/Closed Content question is asked. We will step
in if necessary if someone blatantly abuses this new policy.

For reference:
--------------

Closed Content/PI is any data source that we don't have permission to
publish ourselves or isn't OGL/OGC.

Please see:

http://pcgen.sourceforge.net/autobuilds/pcgen-docs/acknowledgments/publishersand\
sources.html

For a list of publisher permissions that we currently have.

Subject: [Bug] Oracle Known Spells error in 5.17.7
the_macdude
Send Email Send Email

It seems that Oracle known spells has a bonus based on CHA that it should not
have.

From SRD:
"Unlike other divine spellcasters, an oracle’s selection of spells is
extremely limited. An oracle begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two
1st-level spells of her choice. At each new oracle level, she gains one or more
new spells, as indicated on Table: Oracle Spells Known. Unlike spells per day,
the number of spells an oracle knows is not affected by her Charisma score; the
numbers on Table: Oracle Spells Known are fixed."

Testing:
Create an Oracle and compare various levels to the table in the SRD. The CHA
bonus for spells is improperly being applied to Known Spells as well as Cast.

thanks!

No. There was a data bug in the cure/inflict option. It has been fixed
and is in the svn now.

However, the number of known spells will show one extra because you know
the cure/inflict spell.

Greetings,
I use vim (originally vi), as I use that extensively at work (UNIX support &
development) and am quite comfortable with it, installed notepad++ and cant
recall offhand why I didnt take to it, ought to give it another go.

Have to agree about the whole 'vertical' verses 'horizontal' alignment setup,
class files use vertical (ish! bit of both really), and they are a heck of a lot
easier to edit. Other files (*IF* not too wide) are easy enough to maintain but
as soon as they start wrapping a couple of lines it can get tricky.

Not sure if I'd go to the bother of using a script to transfrom horizontal to
vertical (though its easy enough to write), as it adds in an extra step in the
editing process, and for minor tweaks would be just too much of an overhead...

Cheers

I also use vim and I tend to wrap just the bit I'm working on, which tends
to be at the end of the line. I toyed with vim scripts to do the wrap and
unwrap, but didn't need them enough to finish them.

I developed these mappings to map horizontal alignment to vertical alignment
(F2) and back (F3) in vim.

; Press F2 when opening a file, press F3 before saving the file.

; Do not press F2 more than once. Add comments, but always use two newlines,
> two before the comment line, two after.

nmap <F2> :%!perl -p -e 's/\n/\n\n/g; s/\t+/\n\t/g;'<CR>
> nmap <F3> :%!perl -e 'undef $/; my $lst = <>; $lst =~ s/\n(?\!\n)//gsm;
> $lst =~ s/\n\n/\n/g; print $lst'<CR>

This works, but loses the number of tabs between the lines. This is not a
problem of you run prettylst.pl in between commits. This ensures a terse
diff, but would add a large diff if commits are made that do not use
prettylst.

Thanks,

Henk

Urk.
for the rest of us, especially those on Windows, I would recommend the
splendid NOTEPAD++ program, also free, which additionally has a
syntax-colouring add-on for LST files, which makes editing them so much
easier.

It also has the benefit of having no trace of heritage from Vi, which I
am afraid, I must admit to not liking.
I don't know why the previous poster disagreed with Notepad++ - I find
it useful for almost all plain-text purposes.

PCGen 5.17.6 OOC5, PFRPG, or PFRPG+APG

Given a Druid and her Wolf Animal Companion,

if I load the Druid, and use Inventory \ Resources \ Load..., the Wolf
is fine

if I start again, and load Wolf, he has no Animal Tricks, Companion
Level Increase, or Companion Stat Increase

if I Update From Master, this does not improve
if I load Wolf, load Druid, Update From Master, I still have no
Companion related matter on the Wolf.

Is this (a) a bug or (b) a (mis-)feature of PCGen?

Hi,

I'm confused - 5.17.6 OOC5. Are you overwriting the 5.17.6 files with the OOC???
Not a good thing,
since the OOC5 should be the same as 5.17.6.

Okay, now to address your issue:

On 6/2/2011 12:25 PM, Saxum Caribetum wrote:

Okay, step 1, loading is good. :)

> if I load the Druid, and use Inventory \ Resources \ Load..., the Wolf
> is fine

Yay. You've done it correctly.

> if I start again, and load Wolf, he has no Animal Tricks, Companion
> Level Increase, or Companion Stat Increase

Correct. Since everything on your wolf is tied to the master, and without a
master, he has no power.
i.e. you are loading a regular wolf at this point (No boosts exist for him, the
companion mods are
NIL). That's like loading the PC without your optional set, and then seeing a
warning it doesn't
have x <insert power, template, item, etc>. You aren't loading the Whole
Picture. Companions aren't
"separate" entities, they are completely tied to the Master Character.

> if I Update From Master, this does not improve

Also correct. The Master isn't loaded up, has nothing TO update.

> if I load Wolf, load Druid, Update From Master, I still have no
> Companion related matter on the Wolf.

Weird, but probably correct. I could call this a bug, but only in a loose sense.
See, PCs have this
nice feature in the Inventory/Resources section - Load Companions on load. If
you click that, the
wolf will load up. Otherwise, you need to load your wolf via the Inventory. You
might be able to
load the druid, and then load the wolf separately and have it work. But loading
the wolf and then
the druid is out of order. So, bug, probably for this one step, the rest, sorry,
that's actually how
the program works, as the MASTER i.e. Druid, has all the information and holds
the data that makes
the Wolf the uber Companion s/he should be.

> Is this (a) a bug or (b) a (mis-)feature of PCGen?

Wolf and then Druid, maybe. The rest is just the program operating how it's
designed.

I taking part in a custom Pathfinder game, where the normal Pathfinder Core
Rulebook and the Traits Web Enhancement is used.

Our GM told us to add 2 additional traits to our characters when we create them.
I guess this is a house rule for the game.

I am unable to figure out how to add 2 additional traits to our characters.
Under traits, it shows we have 0 traits outstanding, which would be correct for
a normal standard Pathfinder game. How does one increase the value to be 2 so we
can choose two traits from the list of traits?

If there is need to create a custom campaign to implement the addition of two
traits, please tell me how to create the list files to achieve this.

I'd agree, house rules.

Switch to the Traits tab, put 2 in the box for an additional 2. What you'll find
is there is already
an assigned "No Traits" ability, if you remove that, then you have the original
2 trait choices you
should have.

Only if you are adding NEW traits that aren't provided.

I'm running 5.17.6

is it better to install OOC6 or 5.17.7 (ie how stable is 5.17.7?)

Hi,

5.17.7 is stable enough that I use it for every day gaming. Look at the release
notes, it says what
all is included.

It also includes several OS improvements..

OOC is just pure data last I checked. I could be wrong, I didn't look at what
Eric threw in it.

Spells are revamps - Concentration now displays, Skills have a nicer look. Stat
block has several
improvements.

Check it out and compare.

Cheers,

Nice! Well, there ya go. A Few extra Pathfinder updates since the release AND
the nice revamped OS
Sheets - PDF only though. For those using the htm, not much action going on.

so... best combination is?

5.17.7 executable + OOC6 data ? (to get those OS and Pathfinder
updates...)???

The OOC has all that. What the 5.17.7 gives you, all the non-pathfinder fixes in
the data folders,
and any code base improvements.

So yeah, best combo is 5.17.7 + OOC6.

Cheers,
.

Well, as he wrote he's using vim at work extensively. I do, too, and I find
other editors quite difficult to handle -- no matter how good they are --
because they are so different from vim. And there's another point speaking
against notepad++: It only runs on windows (or maybe on emulated windows).

I'll try and start a .vimrc section in SVN for hackers that like to use vim.
The syntax highlighting needs work and we need mappings to easily work in
LST files and create a clean diff.

One of the problems with a lot of current commits is that the diff is very
large because of the scores of lines where only the whitespace has changed.
This makes merging very difficult and makes reviewing near-impossble.

Editing with vertical spacing creates very, very clean diffs and gives us a
proper reviewing view.

Thanks,

Henk

One thing I do recommend, if you're using vim. Set the tab stop to 6
characters.
Now you might think, "that's insane! tabs are eight characters wide da**it!"
and
mostly you'd be right. However! all the other data peeps are using 6
character
tabs and if you arn't then you can't see how they've lined up the various
sections
of their LST files.

I used to think this didn't matter, then I'd open a LST file and think this
is a bit
of a mess. Then I'd set the tab stop to six characters and suddenly it's
all
neat and lined up.
