Description
Panzer Abteilung (translated “Tank Battalion” in German) is designed primarily for 10mm, N scale or 1:144 scale miniatures as a table-top, battalion-level miniatures game where each model on the game table represents a platoon on the battlefield. Although there are many platoon selections within this game, the main focus of the games surround armored battalion engagements. The table below shows the types of units available to you in this game.
Types of Units
Tanks
Infantry (with or without anti-tank guns)
Air Support
Off- and on-board Artillery
Self-propelled Tank Destroyers
Transport Vehicles
Recovery Vehicles
Railway Guns
Armored Cars
Self-propelled Assault Guns
Self-propelled Anti-aircraft
Mortar Carriers
Panzer Abteilung games are played on a turn-based system, where each player has an equal amount of turns. Each player also creates an army with an equal amount of points prior to each game. Each turn acts as a battlefield simulation that accounts for several different actions occurring simultaneously by both players’ armies. The standard armies are based on 1,000 – 1,500 points (depending on the timeframe) for each player, while the historical missions are player-defined and can be whatever you want them to be. The game design is one that does not want to limit the imagination of the players. You should be able to come up with your own ideas for army point limits and missions and create them in your games.
This game was also designed to create a well-balanced, quick, and fun World War II game that reflects a basic sense of realism but not absolute. Panzer Abteilung should have enough basic combat elements to keep things realistic, but not so much as to burden players with extensive rules and situations that require severe interruptions to the game. One of the main reasons for its design was so a seven-year-old child could play this game with their Dad.
