Similar to two different stage of Japan, there are two two different stage of
China in Kara Tur. Shou Lung represented either Sung or Han Dynasty when China
is unified under one emperor. Tai Lung represented the warring states era of
China where there are hundreds of city states under a ineffective emperor.

As a side note, eventually those hundred of warring city/states evolved into 7
major houses/clan/warlords during the ever popular Spring and Autumn era in
China.

My campaign is a spin-off of Test of Samurai where a group of adventurers have
gone to explore the lost capital of Shou Lung. Though they defeated the renegade
general, they did not really cleansed that place of residual evil. Then the
emperor send another expedition led by his brother to further study of that lost
palace. His brother had been corrupted. He brought all those stone soldier
statues back to imperial city to show the emperor of what he had discovered. So
right in front of imperial assembly, he changed those 50K+ stone soldiers back
to flash and completed a succussful coup. All this happened while PCs were off
to Wa on their own little quest.

These players are helping remaining of legit imperial family to reclaim the lost
empire. In fact, they are in heaven right now, debating with other emessary on
merits of which dynasty ought to receive the mandate of heaven :-)

Chuan Lin :-)

ps As a side note, my friend and I have also designed our schools of martial
arts. But as I have found out that MA projects were very popular and already
have several articles on it.

Hello,
I am a 15 year old living in Kansas who has been playing AD&D for
about 3 years now. The first time I played it, I was hooked. I just
cannot get enough of it. I am going to be a sophmore, which really
sucks. In the future, I wish to be a computer repairman. My goal for
this school year is the crash the librarys shity apple computer system
25 times. I only got it about 18 times last year. >:)

I own the OA hardback, but havn't really played it. I guess I kinda
need more. Last night I made a hengyekia (dont know how to spell it)
wu-jen that I am going to bring into my Ravenloft campaign. He is going
to start the "Cult of the Black Dragon." He will eventually become an
evil darklord.

So, that is about it for now. Laters.

Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease.

I'm one of those who is on the list but hasn't contributed anything
yet. I have a bunch of "half-baked" ideas. If I can bring them up
to "3/4 baked" this weekend I'll start posting.

My understanding is that this would be a good place to post rough
drafts that aren't yet polished works of art, but are stuff that we
are working on, for comments from fellow enthusiasts about Kara-Tur.

One quick anecdote, and then on to Kara-Tur:
When I was a kid the "joke" was making the rounds in grade school of
a very, very tired museum tour guide taking his last party of tourists
for the day through the museum, "And this is the skull of the famous
emperor Montezuma." he said. A tourist asked "What's that smaller
skull over there?" "That's the skull of Montezuma when he was six
years old."

One of the interesting things about the Kara Tur setup was that we do
have multiple versions of for instance the Japanese culture at two
different stages.

Do the other cultures seem to be definite clear historical analogs, or
general muddles? If they seem mostly from what time, which?

I expect to have a semi-historical muddle, but I hope to have an
informed, interested semi-historical muddle of Judge Dee, Kai Lung,
and Cambridge Illustrated History of China.

to be continued on a weekend near us:

they attain certain levels, as per:

Katana at 1st level

Samurai are honour-bound to their daimyo (lord). They must abide by the code
of Bushido, which includes rules for honourable conduct in social life, on the
battlefield, and in service to the daimyo. An honourless/masterless Samurai is
a Ronin. PCs may not begin play as Ronin, except by purchasing the "Ronin
Status" trait below.

A Ronin may not gain followers, or become jito or shugo, whether the Character
has become Ronin through play, or by purchase of the "Ronin Status" trait.
Note that a PC that does not start as Ronin, but becomes Ronin, may then
redeem himself and regain the possibility of jito and shugo responsibilities.
A PC that begins as Ronin through the purchase of the Ronin Status trait may
redeem himself, but may never achieve jito or shugo status.

A Player must purchase Jito and Shugo status to have the opportunity of
gaining those
responsibilities. However, purchase of these advantages does not necessarily
indicate that the status will be automatically achieved upon attaining the
indicated level. It is the decision of the daimyo (ie, the Dungeon Master,
based on his role-playing of the daimyo) as to whether these positions are
finally offered or not.

Samurai have 85 character points to spend on their abilities. Any unspent
poinst can be used to acquire non weapon proficiencies or saved for use during
the game.

Birth Table (10): Character uses the Birth Table.
Combat Bonus (10): Character recieves +1 To Hit at 2nd level, increasing
by +1/3 levels thereafter.
Suprise Bonus (5): Charcter recieves +1 Surprised @ 3rd level.
Fear Immunity (5/10/15): Character is immune to Fear (5 to gain ability
at fifth level, 10 to gain ability at 3rd, or 15 to gain ability at 1st).
Cause Fear (10/15/20): The Character can Cause Fear in creatures 1 HD or
less, save vs. Breath applicable (10 to gain at 6th level, 15 to gain at 3rd,
20 to gain at 1st).
d12 Hit Die (10): The character uses 1d12 for Hit Dice.
Magic Bonus (5): The character recieves a +1 to save versus Magic.

Increased Strength 1 (Ki) (10): The character may Kiai [shout] to gain
18(00) Strength for 1 round, once per day per lvl.
Increased Strength 2 (Ki) (10): Great Kiai to gain 18(00) Str for 2
rounds, and foes within 10' must save vs. Paralysation or be stunned for one
round; cannot use any other Ki in the day this is used.
Jito Status (5): The character gains 1d4 Samurai of 1st-3rd level, and 10
Bushi of 1st-3rd level to aid Jito responsibilities; status offered at 7th

Polvo (and anyone else on the list),
I still have 220 messages to go through, (this means I have that much
more to look at, and that may contradict what I am going to say) I do
not think there is a project. I do not even know if anyone else is on
the list. Oh, well. So, hows it going?

I, for one, would like to receive a list of donation so far, and like to know
which areas need more inputs. So to avoid any duplicated ideas or donation.

I'm the Project Coordinator. My name is Phillip Riley a.k.a. Lord Eadric.
I've been playing AD&D for about seven years. I've been working on specific
Oriental Adventures things off and on for about five years.

> This project donīt bring results in the last two months,, what is happening?

Actually a couple of people made donations to the project. They just haven't
appeared on the list. If everyone would like, I could post everything to the
list that gets put up on the web site.

If anyone would like to make any contributions to the project, please feel
free to. We're always looking for original material for Oriental Adventures
or Kara-Tur!

Hello All,
I am new to this list. I have recently purchased the OA hardback from a
local shop one week ago. I am still new to OA, so how can I acess the
list archive?

And, is there any other products for OA other than the book?

Thank you.

Hi, my name is Polvo, and i am new in the list. I have my own page about martial
arts in AD&D. Maybe there you can find useful material. Basically I introduce
the expansion to the martial art system presented in the ninjaīs PHBR. I also
introduce the mystic kit for the psionicist, martial arts like capoeira, savate
and kendo, my own adaptation to the skills & powers of the ninja and psionicists
beyond 20th level (cf. High-Level Campaign). Since i beging to play AD&D (three
years ago) , i have been searching for the OA book, but my quest failed, so if i
can help in anything to rewrite the book for the 2nd edition, i īll be very
thankful. If something presented in my page is helpful or if you have any
comment please let it me know. If it is helpful, i practice capoeira and kendo,
i can speak english french and spanish and i am currently learning japanese and
latin.
