NASPA - NSC2009 - board raffle   Message List

Hello all,

Most of you are aware (or maybe not), that SCRABBLE in North America (NA) is
changing. Hasbro has decided to place the bulk of their support into School
SCRABBLE. Therefore, the NSA had no funding for club and tournament
SCRABBLE.

With that, a new association called North American SCRABBLE Players
Association (NASPA) has been created to allow tournaments and club play to
continue here in NA. However, with any startup, money is always an issue.

After some consultation with the NASPA organizers, I have decided to donate
2 game boards (that I manufacture) to be raffled off at the 2009 National
SCRABBLE Championship (NSC) being held Aug 1-5 in Dayton, Ohio, USA. All
proceeds from the raffle will be turned over to NASPA to help with the
initial costs of their startup.

Board #1 is deluxe wood board, and is one of only 4 boards ever made in an
exotic wood called Zircote. The board is a signed and numbered copy, and
comes with a letter of authenticity (provenance). No other boards will ever
be made in this particular exotic wood. Included with the board will be four
(4) stained tile racks, and a premium deluxe matching set of board cover,
tile bag, and pouches for the tile racks. Right now there is only one
Zircote board in use in North America.

Board #2 is a fold-up board in a new color (other than the black I currently
offer). Included with the fold-up board will be a set of my extra long tile
racks, and a carry tote bag.

Here are some of the rules / restrictions on raffle ticket sales.

Tickets purchased in Dayton at the 2009 NSC:

The winner(s) of the board raffle draws will be required to take the
board(s) with them. They WILL NOT be mailed if you buy your ticket at the
2009 NSC. The board WILL ONLY be mailed to a draw winner who purchased their
ticket online. The Zircote board comes with a wooden shipping case so you
could check it as airline luggage, or mail it to yourself if required.

In Dayton, board raffle tickets will be $10.00 USD each. You will need to
complete a stub type ticket.

The boards will be on display during player registration on Friday, July
31/09. You will be able to purchase tickets during registration, as well as
during the tournament. If you will be in Dayton and would like to help sell
tickets please email me at gene@...

If you are unable to come to Dayton for the 2009 NSC, you can buy an online
ticket on the board raffle. You will be able to purchase a ticket via a
PayPal payment in US currency ONLY. If you are a board raffle winner, it
will be shipped to you (anywhere in the world) directly after the
tournament.

Tickets purchased online:

Online ticket prices will be higher due to (possible) additional costs of
shipping. The cost for an online raffle ticket will be $15.00 USD each.
Payment must be in USD and credit card purchases WILL NOT BE ALLOWED (due to
service charges). A separate PayPal email address will be used for the
raffle. After you purchase an online ticket, you will be emailed a PDF file
of your raffle ticket. That ticket will be specially marked, and will be
taken to Dayton (by me) to be put into the draw.

Online ticket sales will be terminated (and the web pages removed) in or
around July 28th or 29th prior to my leaving for Dayton.

Pictures and raffle details will be put up on my website at
www.adjudicator3000.com in the near future, with full details posted to the
various SCRABBLE user groups around the world shortly.

At the present time Bob Schoenman from www.protiles.net has generously
agreed to also donate some sets of Protiles for the raffle.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to drop me a note at this
email address.

Thank you,

Gene Tyszka
