Of course this is only my own personal opinion, but I'll have to
disagree with you on a few points Daniel. I think Immortals at any
point level reign supreme if you're using them correctly and this is
even moreso for small and mid-sized games. IMO, Immortals are hands
down one of, if not THE BEST infantry unit in the game. T5, 3+ save
and WBB? Couple that with a weapon that is Assault 2, S5 and AP4 and
they can be a pain to get rid of. I build all of my list above 1500
from this list and between the Immortals and Destroyers, they
absolutely crush my opponents.
As for the Destroyer squads, yes a squad of three on its own can
be easily wiped, but if you keep them within 6" of each other then
usually they'll be fine. I'd say in 3 years of gaming I've only had
both squads wiped in about 10% of my games if that, but yes more is
definitely better, but not always necessary, lol.
As for the 10 man Warriors squads again, I'll have to disagree!
I used to take 10 Warriors for every 500 points being played, but I
found I would only outlast my opponents instead of beating them.
Then from the advice of another Necron veteran, I started using only
the minimum 20 (even in 2000+ point games), substituting the lost
Warriors with more Immortals. The result is I now decimate my
opponents in most of the game I play. Even with the low Warrior
count, I've probably phased out in about 5% of my games, so I'm
actual proof, that low Warrior squads aren't necessarily a weakness
for Necrons and can actually be a strength. By taking fewer
Warriors, it frees up points for more devastating units like
Immortals and Destroyers. In my 1500 all-comers list, over have that
list is T5 and can fire at least 24" on the move at S5 or better. As
I go up in points, I then add more Destroyers, Immortals and another
Monolith or the Deciever and it just get even worst for opponents
from then on, lol!
Anyway, like I said at the begining, this is only my opinion
based off of my own experiences. I just happen to disaggree with the
points I posted above not to say that my way is the end all be all
way to play, lol! Anyway, that's just my $0.02!

them as a unit but in small to mid size games they tend to be
ineffective. You need more warriors, I field warriors in 12 to 14
man squads, and up your destroyers to 4 or 5 man squads, 3 is just
not enough. So you could bump both destroyers squads to 5 and have
enough points to add 4 to 5 warriors between your 2 squads. 10 man
warrior squads are a weakness for crons because of HTH if they dont
last thru the initial HTH you cant monolith or veil them out. A
warrior squad that gets shot up a little bit and then is charged by
power weapons or rending is in trouble--up your warrior squad size so
you survive will be there to veil or VOD after WBB. I have lost games
due to small squads and LD modifiers or a simple bad LD roll.

> You do have a pretty solid list, but there are a few changes I'd
like to suggest. First, I'd suggest you drop the Shroud and Phase
Shifter and take a Veil of Darkness in order to allow you to pull 2
units from combat (VoD + Monolith) per turn. Another good tatic is to
teleport to claim a last turn objective that has actually won or tied
plenty of games where I would've lost otherwise. Now, please don't go
and just jumping around the table just b/c you have it. I've found
that a VoD is best used only when needed. My second suggestion is to
try and get 2 squads of Destroyers. Destroyers will be one of the
first units an opponent will target and with only one squad, there is
no hope of WBB if they get wiped (which isn't very hard to do). By
taking another squad, you force your opponent to devote 2 squads of
his to deny you WBB. One thing you need to understand about Necrons
is that they function better by having multiples of the same squad.
Whenever possible take two like units of anything with the Necron
special rule to increase its survivability and make if harder for
your opponent to beat you. My own standard 1500 all-comers list looks
like this...- Lord (SoL, Orb, VoD)- 2 x 10 Warriors- 2 x 7 Immortals-
2 x 3 Destroyers- Monolith This lists is extremely hard to get rid of
due to the multiple units and about the only army I struggle with
when using it is a Tyranid TMC army. Even opponents that like to
concentrate everything on a single unit a turn have problems with
this army. The reason is, even if they due manage to wipe one squad,
they still get a WBB due to being within 6" of another like unit and
then the survivors boost the numbers of the second squad. Anyway, I
hope I could help and so good luck and happy harvesting!!!
